## What is Ring True?

Strike a coin, hear the truth. Ring True estimates the silver content of ANY coin from the sound it makes — no per-coin database required.

Real physics, not guesswork: a coin rings at frequencies set by its size and its metal's stiffness. Silver rings lower and dramatically longer than copper-nickel. Enter the coin's diameter and weight (or pick a preset - Morgans, pre-1965 US coinage, Silver Eagles, Maples, world crowns), balance it on a fingertip, tap its edge, and the app captures and analyzes the ring automatically.

• Silver percentage estimate from the ring tone
• Gold mode for gold–copper coins like Gold Eagles and Krugerrands
• Independent density cross-check flags clad, plated, and filled fakes
• Ring sustain (Q) analysis - genuine silver rings for seconds
• Automatic rejection of knocks, taps, and background noise
• Size-class mode for coins you don't have exact specs for
• Bonus magnetometer mode: instantly catch ferrous (iron/steel) fakes

Everything runs on your phone. No account, no ads. Nothing is sent anywhere unless you choose to send feedback on a result.

Results are estimates for hobby use, not a professional assay.

## Version history (last 3 releases)

### 1.2.0 — 2026-10-20

• Silver Detector is now Ring True, with a new icon.
• Australian 1946–63 florins and shillings now read correctly as 50% silver.
• Dimes and other small coins are less likely to come back inconclusive.

### 1.1.0 — 2026-10-15

• Steadier results: a reading now needs three matching pings, and stray taps are thrown out.
• Improved physics model, more accurate for gold and high-silver coins.
• About 75 built-in coins, with search.
• Support for 50% silver coins, including UK 1927–46.
• New optional "Was this result right?" form. It sends only numbers about the coin and your answers, never audio, and helps calibrate the app.

### 1.0.0 — 2026-08-20
