It kicked me out and now I can’t log back in. ### 4/5 — Needs a little bit of work *2025-06-02, version 3.3.14* Love the fact that I don’t have to guess as to what to do next. I do not like that when I open the app on several occasions and tap on a specific vegetable that is growing currently in my garden that either 1. gives a error message about connecting to the servers or 2. the suggested recipes take me to websites that have nothing to do with gardening and are not in English. I hope this gets fixed asap. One of my main reasons for getting this system was so I can the information for successful growing at my finger tips. ### 4/5 — The app disagrees with current Rise Gardens products and nutrients *2025-01-28, version 3.3.8* The app is super helpful in helping someone just getting into hydroponics. Being able to remotely control lighting and water flow has been fantastic. Its tracker for the plants and sprouts is great for someone with ADHD. However, Its diagrams, set up, and nutrient suggestions for feedings are outdated. It constantly references previous versions of the gardens without the ability to select which model you are using and it recommends feedings from nutrient formulas that are unavailable everywhere, turning customers to hydroponic forums to find solutions. Not world ending, but a little short sighted. ### 3/5 — The 1/3/25 update made it unusable *2025-01-26, version 3.3.8* I went to add plants to my garden today and it is now impossible. The app tries to load the plant selection screens until it gives an error message, then it tells you there are no plant types that meet your search (when you never typed in a search to begin with, that screen used to just load all plant types). This app has always had issues and it has always run rather slow, but now it is entirely unable to be used for its purpose. Love the herbs. ### 3/5 — A decent first app but it doesn’t feel streamlined *2024-02-25, version 3.3.0* The app works, really well! It’s stable and I enjoy using it. My “issue” with it is that it’s not streamlined yet. I feel like I shouldn’t have to click into my garden to buy more plants. Or the “become a member” banner just takes you to your active subscription, which I don’t have, and that page also doesn’t have any way to add one. When on the Home Screen the bottom bar disappears. Also when I click into a planter it would be cool to still see which planter I’m in via a pic or something, and below have all plants in my planter together in one page but divided by nursery and fully planted, with the ability to filter. Over all it’s not a bad app, but it feels like a v1 and not a fully mature app who really took the flow seriously ### 4/5 — Decent app but clumsy *2024-01-22, version 3.2.4* This app is a great tool to help me stay on top of the garden. But simple tasks take too much effort and time. Moved a whole nursery to the garden? Expect to do a lot of clicking. Needs to be streamlined. ### 2/5 — Not truly for beginners *2023-09-13, version 3.1.5* Garden is really cool in theory, app is confusing and unhelpful and makes garden hard to use. I got this garden because I am an extremely amateur gardener who loves plants but always winds up killing them. This garden was supposed to be for people like me. (1) The biggest problem I have found is that the instructions in the app are SO GENERIC. Every single plant has the same instructions for "thinning out" after moving. I learned this the hard way after thinning the radish they sent me in the starter pack (if you're hoping to get a variety of common herbs in your starter pack, don't get your hopes up like I did - that's another story). Looking at what fully matured radishes look like, I'm thinking I probably should not have thinned it and that's why my radish is now dead. But as an AMATEUR, I blindly followed the advice of the app. Today I found the instructions for CHIVES say the same thing. Since I would like to have more than a single chive, I ignored it this time. (2) Another problem is, although you can order from the shop through the app, the listings don't provide all of the information. I ordered a 12-spot tray from the app, looked through all the limited information available on the app about the tray, and there was ZERO mention or depiction of net cups coming with it. So I ordered net cups too. Turns out the tray comes with net cups, which is shown on their website, but not on the app, so now they won't let me return the net cups without paying for shipping, which costs more than the net cups did. (3) Finally, there are no notifications! Can you believe that? I've gotten in the habit of checking the app every day, but in order for this truly to be a "set it and forget it" product, it is so vital that there be notifications for: - Adding nutrients - Changing/refilling nursery water - Moving plants - Harvesting - Cleaning I was completely shocked to find that the app lacks notifications. I can tentatively recommend the garden as a cute counter top garden for gardeners with experience, but please do not rely on the app for information because it is incomplete and non-specific! ### 5/5 — I am now a gardener! *2023-06-13, version 3.1.2* When I first saw that Rise had an App for instruction, I gained so much confidence that I could really pursue my passion to have control of what I put on my plate. ### 4/5 — Decent app. A couple changes would make it great. *2023-06-06, version 3.1.1* I’m pretty impressed by this app considering Rise is a device company and not a software company. Two things are on my wish list: device notifications when there are new tasks, and don’t tell me to add nutrients until the water is low enough. The second one is important— the app tells me to add nutrients plus 3 gallons of water when there is still 3 gallons of water left. If I follow these directions, I would overflow the system. ### 5/5 — App is great but time consuming *2023-05-26, version 3.1.1* The app works wonderfully and I love being able to remotely control the lights and check the water level. I have no complaints with the recommendations for nutrients that come from the apps. All of my Rise Gardens are healthy and happy! There are some major improvements that could be made, and hopefully will in the future: Why can’t I search? I have six gardens so I often will have nursery spread around throughout them. If I want to find some seedlings, or find out if they exist, I can’t search. I would love to be able to search across gardens, both trays and nurseries. Why is there no history? I would love to see what I planted, when I planted it when I moved it to a different tray or garden, and when I removed it. Maybe some statistics? Maybe ability to add notes to a type of plant? Why are there no crop planning options? There is the “8 heads of lettuce a week” YouTube video, but actually doing it involves an hour a week updating the app, just moving plants around! (sidenote: it takes a week longer, and requires one more tray than the video suggested). Would love to be able to dedicate some tears and nurseries then have the app do all the work! Would love a web browser version of app. Our ability to share the gardens with my girlfriends or child, so we can all do stuff. In short: great app, but could be a lot more useful. The app tells you how each step you need to take. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Poor customer service *2026-01-23, version 3.3.17* The product an app seem to be fine but my experience has been bad to say the least. My garden arrive without the power supply, nutrients, PH balance and it felt like I had to beg customer support to send me what should’ve been included. That took a few weeks of delayed back and forth emails to get figured out. The next issue I’ve had is the seeds that I ordered still haven’t arrived after a month and a half when their website said they would ship in 2-3 days. Reaching out to support which seems to be one person, has not helped figure this out or offered any resolution to this point. So if you’re interested in this brand, pray that you don’t have any issues because the only way to reach someone is through a delayed email and it may or may not be helpful. ### 1/5 — 9/13/25 App won’t let me log in *2025-09-14, version 3.3.15* Hadn’t used the app in a while. Tried to log in so I could set up the garden, before logging in, showed an error message: “getActiveCampaign: no_network”. Can’t access anything in the app. I can log in just fine to My Account on the website, but the app is unusable. Deleting and reinstalling the app didn’t work either. PLEASE FIX ASAP! ### 1/5 — Most recent update doesn’t run on my iPhone 14 Pro… *2023-04-21, version 3.1.0* See title. ### 1/5 — Poor connectivity and Poor plant care *2023-02-14, version 3.0.5* App and Rise garden are constantly having connection issues, water level sensor on rise garden never works right. The app is not recommending the correct amount of fertilizer for the plants. Severe micronutrient deficiencies. Had to buy pH and EC pens to measure water quality. Spent extra money for the convenience of the app and it doesn’t work. ### 1/5 — Extremely confusing and hard to troubleshoot *2023-01-05, version 3.0.2* All the faq articles regarding plant care basically just say “do what the app tells you to do” but the app doesn’t tell me anything. Some examples of questions I have that the app nor faq articles seem able to answer: - when am I supposed to add nutrients? - what’s my water ph level and when should I test it? - where should I be placing each plant when moving from nursery to garden (ie based on plant size and ideal lighting strength)? - why does my light schedule seem to randomly turn on and off and why did it not reset after I powered down the garden? There needs to be a more clear backup written guide to explain what to do in the event that the ‘magic smart app’ isn’t working as intended, which it’s not. ### 1/5 — Latest update is so bad *2022-11-20, version 3.0.1* Crashes constantly. It freezes constantly. I can't move plants from nurseries to the garden. The UI is AWFUL. I don't want to be scrolling for 800 hours to locate the spot in the tray I want to put a plant in. Total piece of crap! *2021-08-05, version 2.1.3* The system essentially is made of a (very noisy) fish tank pump connected to some plastic trays with blindingly bright LED’s on a timer. Even worse, is the shoddy construction and materials. The system leaks and parts are not fully alligned. ### 1/5 — Can’t delete mistakes / Nursery setup too hard *2020-05-23, version 1.3.0* The developers could improve the app by providing a delete button when you accidentally put the wrong plant in the nursery. The lack of being able to fix mistakes makes this app almost useless. Also, certain tall plants don’t fit into the top or middle rows of the garden. If you don’t know this when you are setting up your nursery you will end up with plants that can’t be placed into your garden. The app warns you about this when you place plants in the garden. However there is no height warning or info when setting up your nursery! This is IMHO a huge oversight. Until these problems are fixed my $1500 investment in Rise Garden seems wasted on a useless app that doesn’t work.
