### 5/5 — Thank you for making this game!

*2021-10-10*

This game checks all my boxes: -Visually pleasing and retro (bringing back memories of games I have treasured), - Simple controls, - Fishing in my favorite method for my favorite fish (fly fishing for trout), -hidden secrets in the game have been fun to uncover. All in all this is a game I have never known I needed. Thank you! It is a favorite!

**Developer response:** Thank you! This means so much, I am glad you enjoyed this fishing adventure.

### 5/5 — This game is awesome

*2021-08-18*

I was on a road trip when I saw this game, at first it was a belie hard but I started to reel in big fish and then it sparked my love for fly fishing in real life, so thank you for the memories

**Developer response:** Thank you! Happy to bring those memories back!

### 5/5 — Update:Great game!

*2021-06-17*

At first I thought you had to continuously tap, not tap and hold…..which made it nearly impossible to catch a fish! My impatience made me leave a poor review…my bad. Great mechanics, adorable pixel art, fun fish fighting! 5 star!

**Developer response:** Hey, really appreciate your honesty and the feedback. Thank you so much for playing River Legends!

### 5/5 — Relaxing Game

*2021-06-11*

A stress-free game without any time pressure. I play it mostly next to my lecture and it's fun!

**Developer response:** Thank you! That was one of the goals when making this game, and I’m glad you discovered it! Tight lines.

### 5/5 — Got an iPad version!

*2021-06-06, version 1.2*

Updated 5/6/21: Very responsive developer took care of my issue quickly and now I can enjoy the game in all it’s glory.

Update 4/28/21: developer thanks for your quick response. I see you sent the link for the iPad version of this game, but why wasn’t that available when the game was released? I checked after downloading this and realizing it was for the iPhone. And why isn’t this a universal app if there is an iPad version now? I can’t pay for this game again. Can I give you the iPhone version back and receive the iPad version instead?
Thanks

I was excited to get this game, I’m a big fan of pixel art games. Just after I paid the money for it, I realized I just paid for a game that is built for the IPhone only. That’s a bummer, I like to play on my iPad 11 pro and it’s 2021, needs to have an iPad version for the price.

### 5/5 — Excellent Fly Fishing

*2021-05-10*

I was playing fishing planet on the PC. Retro Pixel fly fishing is cooler. It’s actually fairly in depth and is a relaxing and fun fishing sim that’s enjoyable for anyone that’s ever liked any fishing game before. Also the fly fishing makes it a bit different. It would be cool to see an online leaderboard in the future to see who can catch the biggest fish.

**Developer response:** I’m glad you are enjoying it! Great suggestion, perhaps in a future version. Tight lines!

### 5/5 — Good game

*2021-05-02*

Great

**Developer response:** Thank you, Thebugel!

### 5/5 — River Legends :)

*2021-05-01*

Hailing from Northwestern, British Columbia, where the trout & salmon abound, I find this game both addicting & akin to the real thing. I enjoy the momentum of the game and the realism of having to skillfully work for you catch. Once mastered this game offers countless of rewards for the efforts put forth. The sounds, effects, and options are rewarding, and adds to the realism of the game. It has been my new go to game, as now more than ever with the World in it’s ever changing ways, I can be rest assured that I can still engage in one of my most favourite activities. Thankyou!! River Legends!!

**Developer response:** Howdy! Your feedback brought a smile to me - thank you for playing River Legends and thank you for your kind words!

### 5/5 — Great game

*2021-04-30*

Great game like it a lot, some recommendations I feel like I bought all the shop items real quick maybe add an upgrade system to the fishing gear and possibly add othe fish species, small mouth bass large mouth bass pike /muskies

**Developer response:** Jerahunts, thanks for your support. I would love to see a version with those species as well, perhaps in the future!

### 5/5 — Finally, a legit fly fishing game!

*2021-04-29, version 1.0*

And the retro-8bit style is so nostalgic!

### 5/5 — One of the best fishing games. Period

*2021-04-28*

So as an avid fly fisherman’s I enjoy going out to the river in a weekly basis as an escape, but as responsibilities grow that’s not always possible. Sometime you can get the same feeling from a phone game on a micro level. Now, if I am going to play games it’s usually COD, and while I enjoy fishing games they are always different from actual fishing. So I usually don’t. This game however has very similar characteristics to actual fishing. And it’s the only one that is based on FLY FISHING. So I thought I would give it a go. Man this is exactly what I had hoped for: it’s fly fishing escape.... but if you only have 5 minutes for it. Now here’s why I am saying this:

Focus: You have to pay attention, this is not a game that you can absentmindedly just play in the background you had better watch what you’re doing if your gonna catch something. Believe me I tried and failed horribly

Skill: you need to know where to go to target your fish. you need to aim. you need to watch your drift, you need to play with your fly and adjust your bait ( though on a simpler level than the real thing)

Luck: there’s no two ways about it, luck plays a role in game and in life. If the RNG Gods say that fish is gonna bolt... get ready, you’re gonna swear a little bit.

To me these are all the elements that make it a small escape from the day to day and very similar to the real thing... well except in RL you will rarely catch fish that big or that often. But maybe in that one small way the game is better than the real thing. Thanks for the great game

**Developer response:** Hangdogger, thank you for the incredibly thoughtful and informative review. River Legends aims to catch that bit of adventure and magic in exploring hidden watersheds, and it sounds like you found it! Thank you!

### 5/5 — Relaxing.

*2021-04-28*

I like looking at the scenery! Really like the art. Very relaxing!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Boring

*2022-01-12*

Too complicated and txt is too small for my eyes im afraid

### 3/5 — Can’t understand

*2021-12-07*

I didn’t catch any fish, it’s to hard, and I didn’t understand how it’s work.

**Developer response:** Hello, thank you for trying out River Legends. Sorry to hear about the challenges you encountered, please send an email to flyfishinggame@gmail.com and I would be happy to help you out.

### 4/5 — Amazing, but simple

*2025-07-02*

At first I was amazed by the fact that a game about fishing really exists. (I dreamed about it since fishing in School of Dragons.) So, I bought it. It took some time to understand mechanics, duck’s tips helped me a lot. Then I easily landed all the fish I wanted, bought all the items and… thought that the game was over, everything was finished. Happily, there were places I haven’t explored yet. I found three caves and, to tell the truth, walking across all these picturesque views gave me a lot of pleasure and satisfaction - it appeared to be even more thrilling than fishing. I mean, the game is really good. It is relaxing, entertaining and I feel that the author (developer) put his soul in it. Still, it is too simple. (Only 2 evenings of gameplay, after which I have nothing to do there.) That’s why I put only four stars right now. I hope that there will be more locations, various fish and maybe new secrets in future updates. I also look forward to seeing system with insects working (right now button to catch insects has no use and lure is infinite). Moreover, I would like to spend game money for something finite or to have something I would save up them for. Maybe, you can add daily quests for concrete fish or location with other fishers (I guess it can make game more venturesome.)

### 4/5 — Initially inscrutable

*2022-04-12*

Controls are sometimes virtual buttons, sometimes touch anywhere, leads to lots of confusion early on. Weird that menu is in your tackle box. No indication on map of whether or not a location is accessible. Once I realized the reeling tension choices were not virtual buttons but touch anywhere, I was able to actually see the gauge and the fishing mechanic started making sense. Every cast is jarring because you don’t see it fly through the air to its destination. Why did you decide to teleport the lure to its destination and skip an actual casting animation? Very weird decision. Just lots of strange interaction choices that imo present a high barrier to entry. Also, would really help with immersion if there was like a motivation for any of this. Quests? A story? Even a light intro that expresses a basic reason for wanting to catch a legend or whatever would have gone a long way to help me feel like there was a reason for any of this. Record of fish caught should be in like a journal and not outside the whole game in the start menu. Hey this journal sounds like a great place to move the menu and maybe a few settings. Maybe a shack we can put trophies in and upgrade? I get it you're a small operation and idk how the heck games are made and maybe it’s a testament to the game that it makes me think of all the other things I want here, but what is vs. what could be is a real distraction. River Legends 2 gonna be off the chain.

### 4/5 — Great game but.

*2021-05-14*

It could use more content after the game ends. The gameplay also gets repetitive and always seeing the fish makes it less realistic. Also my biggest gripe is how the river legend was just a lake trout. I thought it would be something cooler at least I didn’t ever think that was the legend till I checked overalll great game

**Developer response:** Howdy! Thank you for casting a line in River Legends, and thank you for the valuable feedback!

### 4/5 — Love it! Please keep improving!

*2021-05-11*

Love this game so far. However I wish the fish meter was on the left side of the rod controls. My thumbs block the meter and makes it tough to play. Other than that the game is great

**Developer response:** Hi! Thanks for playing River Legends! I appreciate your feedback - you can tap anywhere on screen to reel the fish in, hopefully that helps!

### 4/5 — Great start

*2021-04-30*

This game is so fun 🤩
However a little too easy, I got every fish including the legend in 2 days.
Casting is awesome and it is fun to see the fly float downstream.
One suggestion maybe have actually bug hatches and flys to make the game a little more fun/hard
This game is awesome

**Developer response:** Hello! Sounds like you have mastered it! Thank you for the feedback, I appreciate it and look forward to incorporating it in hopefully future versions!

### 4/5 — Fun Game!!

*2021-04-29, version 1.0*

I enjoy this game a lot it’s fun and simple to understand. there’s a few places in the game you can go to fish and there’s a few secrets to be found. i love the retro look and like the animations of animals, fish thrashing in the water, etc.

the only thing is that i wish there was more content honestly. it’s fun but all the upgrades you can buy are pretty cheap and i had just saved up and got them all on the first two areas and once you catch the biggest fish there isn’t much more to do other than go back and fish again. i understand the game is new but some missions and more fish and some more items would definitely improve the game and give it longer playtime.

great work so far!

### 4/5 — Few recommendations if you’re listening

*2021-04-28*

Playing the game a bit, a couple recommendations from a fly-fisherman. First, shouldn’t be able to see the fish at all times. Part of the excitement, often, is not knowing exactly what’s in the water, perhaps you need your polarized glasses to get a better look. Maybe add to the allure (no pun intended) by reducing visibility. Another thing, gotta be able to style your character. Is it some guy out there or is it me with some waders, my new Simms sun hoodie, and some orange shades? Lastly, a lot of the fun is the cast. Maybe it should be that the line follows exactly what you draw, so if you get the timing right, you get the cast you want, otherwise you get hooked. A start to a brilliant game. Just a few thoughts.

**Developer response:** Thanks! Appreciate you playing the game & providing feedback!

### 4/5 — Almost perfect but that UI...

*2021-04-27*

Game does what it sets out to do. It is almost perfect but personally I think the UI needs a re-work. It is far too obtrusive to the beauty of the game. Or maybe I just got used to small icons shoved into the corners lol

**Developer response:** Howdy! Thank you for the feedback - UI is an interesting design concept, especially when you are trying to keep it minimalist - hope to continually improve on the design!

great little game, recommend checking it out

### 5/5 — New Fav

*2025-04-16*

Been fly fishing for 20 years, now I can fish in my office at work! Love it! Great mechanics too if you actually fish. I have a question now after playing for a couple weeks… will I ever see the Bigfoot?!?!? Hahaha def keeps me coming back! Thanks for your time making this gem!

### 5/5 — New Fav

*2025-04-02*

Been fly fishing for 20 years, now I can fish in my office at work! Love it! Great mechanics too if you actually fish

### 5/5 — Good game

*2024-08-17*

Good game but the secrets are hard to find though (still good game).

### 5/5 — I loved this tiny adventure

*2024-01-28*

Thank you for making this. The way the joy of fishing is captured plus the nostalgia of of games like this makes this game truly special. Please make more just like this but more :)

### 5/5 — Nice

*2023-09-08*

Beautiful pixel art, calm ambient sounds, secrets on locations. Simple yet interesting fishing mechanics. Nice game. Unfortunately it’s short - I have bought everything from shop after maybe 30 min of fishing. Game could be more interesting if it has more progress steps. Like more rods, more fish species, higher prices in shop. Anyway even now I sometimes want to launch game just to relax.

P.s. I can’t find jackalope! Help me with this please 😁

### 5/5 — Simple and easy to enjoy

*2023-04-05, version 1.2*

Just like fly fishing.

### 5/5 — Fun past time

*2022-09-09*

If your a fly fisherman you will dig this game. The scenery is beautiful and the fishing system is solid. I would have appreciated a tippet added to the fly line but that doesn’t change how fun this is to actually play

**Developer response:** Great suggestion on the tippet! Appreciate the feedback, and the review! Tight lines, MeLlamoYorch!

### 5/5 — NEEDS MORE

*2022-01-18*

Great game, I want more species of fish, also want more lakes, and more stuff to unlock

**Developer response:** Hi! Thanks for playing River Legends. Thank you for the feedback as well, hope to offer more in the future!

### 5/5 — Amazingly realistic

*2021-11-09*

This game is as close to real fishing as an app-base game can get. The more I play it, the more fun it is.

**Developer response:** Thank you, QSwitch! Keep on fishing on!
