## What is Rivers.run?

Real-time river levels and crowdsourced paddling beta for whitewater paddlers. Rivers.run covers 10,000+ rivers and creeks across the US, Canada, and the UK & Ireland.

Match live gauge data with hard-won local knowledge: flow color-coding, rapid-by-rapid descriptions, access points, and difficulty ratings, all in one place. Flow data comes straight from government gauges — USGS, Environment Canada, and the UK & Ireland — alongside NOAA forecasts. River descriptions, access points, and runnable levels are crowdsourced by the paddling community.

KEY FEATURES

Live Flows & Forecasts
See current levels from USGS, Environment Canada, UK, and Ireland gauges, with simple low/runnable/high color coding. Dig into 28-day history graphs and NOAA forecasts to plan ahead. Switch freely between imperial and metric (CFS/CMS, ft/m, °F/°C).

Interactive Map & Weather Radar
Discover nearby rivers, view live weather radar (US), and tap any run for gauge readings, access points, and rapid descriptions.

Offline Navigation (USA-only)
Easy, free state-by-state map downloads keep you oriented when your signal disappears. Find put-ins and take-outs, get directions, and follow your live GPS location with no cell service at all — your favorites, lists, and saved flows come along too.

Powerful Search & Filtering
Find your next trip by water level, difficulty class, distance, region, custom tags, and more — then sort by what's running right now.

Flow Alerts That Find Rare Runs
Star the runs you care about and get an alert the moment they come into your preferred range — perfect for creeks that only run a few days a year. Prefer the big picture? Switch to a daily email digest of conditions, delivered at a time you choose.

Custom Lists & Sync
Build river lists by region, difficulty, or trip plan, and sync them across all your devices.

Apple Watch
Sync your lists to the companion Apple Watch app and check levels from the trailhead.

Community-Driven
Can't find your local creek? Disagree with a runnable level? The map is crowdsourced: anyone can suggest edits, new access points, or a fresh run write-up, and our moderators review every change to keep it accurate.

Built for Everyone
Dark mode and a colorblind-friendly palette come standard.

Rivers.run is free, open-source, and built by paddlers for paddlers.

River flows change and conditions can vary rapidly. Always exercise caution, wear appropriate safety gear, and verify local conditions before paddling.

### 5/5 — Great resource

*2026-07-01, version 5.0.1*

This app just gets better every year 👍

### 2/5 — What happened to all the rivers in Washington Statr?

*2026-06-22, version 4.0*

This app used to be fantastic, but now it doesn’t appear to recognize ANY of the significant rivers in Washington state and appears to be similarly blind to Oregon rivers.

What happened?

### 1/5 — Dead

*2026-03-01, version 3.0*

No longer works. Been weeks.

### 2/5 — What happened???

*2026-02-26, version 3.0*

I used this app daily for a few years and now it’s completely useless. Please make some updates to revive this! It was the best and easiest way to check the river everyday.

### 1/5 — Sadly - now seems dead Excellent FISHING (esp trout) app: convenient USGS stream info at the ready

*2026-02-18, version 3.0*

Update: sadly, now seems dead. I hope it will be revived.

This free app is the simplest, cleanest and quickest way to check USGS stream data: flow, temperature, precipitation, whatever the stream gauges collect. The interface isn’t the most intuitive, but after a few minutes use it’s a snap. Excellent.

I hope the developer will allow higher resolution maps for offline usage, as modern devices have plenty of storage to accommodate that data.

### 2/5 — Great info, hard to update

*2025-09-01, version 3.0*

Love the information provided but haven’t been able to get refreshed data in about 2 days.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2024-09-06, version 2.0*

This is my go to app for checking water levels for whitewater kayaking. Thanks!

### 5/5 — Rivers.run

*2021-07-04, version 1.6*

This app is exactly what white water paddlers have been looking for. Fantastic compilation of data sources. Carefully built, beautifully displayed. A keeper.

### 5/5 — This might be the best whitewater river app

*2021-06-11, version 1.1*

This app is specifically written for whitewater rivers. It includes a map with a pin for every river gage in US and Canada. Whatever you want in a whitewater river app, it probably already exists in this app. And there is a link for each river for you to submit suggestions to the developer.
