### 2/5 — No playback?!?

*2023-05-17*

I’ll be generous with my two stars. I was disappointed to have to download an app right after another virtual interview conducted by a link to a website from another company. This app says I can practice and play back all recordings before submitting, but there is no playback option when in it! I can only hope it recorded properly and I don’t sound awful! I was not bothered by the format. While I can appreciate a few of the questions being answered by typing, I do not have a webcam to have used with a computer, so I am on a tablet or phone and the typed answers are awkward (at least they aren’t timed). I find it unnecessary for a company to require a candidate to download yet another app. I have enough just for live video interviews!

### 3/5 — Watch the videos 10x, stop playback of your bad answers before starting your redo

*2022-05-20, version 3.0.40*

I wish this app was intuitive enough to stop playback of a disregarded answer while recording a new answer. Also if it had an option to not be staring at your own face while recording? First use makes me wish I had a demo interview separate from the actual interview to play with beforehand; the practice feature is only available if you have an interview. Directly after, you have to take your interview. As a hands on person, watching the video only helped so much.

### 2/5 — Recording over another video

*2022-01-07, version 3.0.40*

Hello,
A problem I ran into was that I was watching my second attempt and then decided that I wanted to retake it. When I clicked the re- record button and my last attempt started, the sound from my previous attempt played really loud over it. And it ended up submitting a version of me starring at the camera confused of how to turn off the sound.

If there is a way the audio from a previous video would automatically shut off once a recording was in session that would be greatly appreciated thank you!

### 4/5 — Easy breezy

*2021-09-22, version 3.0.38*

UsingBut it was pretty easy the only downside to using it was I didn’t let you hear your recording before he was able to submit it it only lets you record it so you don’t really know if you needed to re-record it tonight so I think if they put in a listening but where is that you can listen to your recording before you submit it it will probably decrease the need to re-record but other than that it was easy to use easy breezy

### 4/5 — Awkward and screen needs to rotate

*2021-07-12, version 3.0.37*

I think doing an interview with no face-to-face contact is a little strange. I’ve interviewed many people as Director of engineering for Emerson and always found it quite comfortable but this was all, say, “different”. I also think that the software could be written such that it could be handled in either orientation, vertical or horizontal for an iPad or even an iPhone for that matter it made me have to look around for things to prop up my iPhone and I could not use my iPad because it doesn’t have a and easel or a way to prop it up in the vertical mode. I also think the software responses and uploading could be quicker.

### 3/5 — Video played while Recording

*2021-07-09, version 3.0.37*

My interview consisted of 3 questions with only 1 chance to redo each question. After I recorded the first question I started to watch my answer and decided to redo it. I clicked the screen and no pause button showed up so I clicked the “next question” button assuming the video would just stop…nope! The second recording started while the first one continued to play while I was recording and I couldn’t redo it again. I shouldn’t have to watch my entire recorded video if I don’t want to before I start to redo my answer. Other than this issue, the app was good for me.

### 3/5 — Not a bad idea but execution leaves much to be desired.

*2021-06-21, version 3.0.36*

Digital screenings for interviews have become more popular lately so it makes sense apps like this one have become popular as well. However, I feel that the app’s usability and user-friendliness leave a lot to be desired. As someone with a lot of experience using technology in my day-to-day, I found the app to be a little confusing in regards to its various screens and how questions are posed in the app. Interviewing for jobs is nerve-wracking enough, this should be as simple and pain-free as possible. I also think all interviews should allow you multiple takes. The “test” didn’t help whatsoever and I was then thrown into the real interview and struggled to know whether or not the app was working correctly. I could not go back in and re-record my answer when I realized that it was already recording.

### 4/5 — Good app but needs a small change

*2021-03-28, version 3.0.35*

When you watch the playback of one of the videos that you recorded it continues to play even if you press the reach record button. I feel like it should automatically shut off the video when you try to re-record, but it does not. I forgot this and had to submit on my last attempt a video that started out with audio from the previous video because it was playing through my phone.

### 4/5 — Nice and simple, could use some minor improvements

*2021-02-12, version 3.0.35*

Nice, simple interface. I would recommend something more attention-grabbing as the countdown reaches zero. The end of each segment always came as a surprise. Maybe change the color of the bar at 10 seconds, or have a large countdown in the corner for the last 10 seconds. I would also recommend showing the video feed to check lighting etc. at the end or beginning of each question.

### 2/5 — Buggy App

*2020-12-03, version 3.0.34*

Over all this was easy to use but the app didn’t properly load my interview at first and I was forced to delete it and download it again to get my interview started. Then, my 2nd page of written answers loaded blank with no option to write a response and a “next” button. This forced me to then give my response to that question and then next question at the same time in a recorded video response. Im left wondering if this error in the app will mess up my chances of a good review and a job offer. Due to these issues in only a few minutes of using the app I simply cannot give it a high rating. If I hadn’t had those issues I would have likely left a 5 star review.

### 4/5 — Interesting interview process

*2020-10-23, version 3.0.28*

Overall the RIVS Apply app was easy to use. I appreciated have multiple options to record an answer ... my one suggestion for the options where you can re-record your answer, and maybe it was just me, would be for better differentiating between the “record” and “play” options ... for one of the questions when I intended to play/watch my first response to decide if I wanted to re-record it, I accidentally hit the “record” button on the bottom instead of pressing the play arrow on the video, wasting one of my 2 extra recording attempts ... luckily my video saying “Oh #*@%!” when I realized I hit the incorrect button was not my last chance for that question! :-) I do wish that I had been advised ahead of time that part of the questions would have written instead of video answers ... I would have tried harder to set up the app on my computer instead of my iPad because I am better (and fast) typing on my computer keyboard, but that was not an issue with the app, just an observation about the interview process.

### 3/5 — Pretty good but slow

*2020-07-07, version 3.0.28*

This was my first experience with an online interview of this type, and I would say it was pretty good, although the upload speed was painfully slow. I was sitting right next to my router, but it still took at least 5 to 10 minutes to upload each video. What I expected to take about 30 minutes Took me about an hour and a half. One video upload got stuck at 93% for several minutes, so I finally turned off Wi-Fi and used my cellular data, and the subsequent uploads seemed to go faster. The print on the screen is extremely tiny, and the fact that it is in yellow print on the recording screen made it even worse. Please make it larger and in a better color that will be more legible.

### 4/5 — New experience but no bad at all.

*2020-04-29, version 3.0.27*

This was my first digital interview and while I was stressing it, I was pretty relaxed as we went along and I became more comfortable with it. I guess if I could change anything it would be to allow us to see our video responses before moving to the next question. However, maybe that could be construed as the candidate not really being him/herself so I guess I get it. There was one question that had misspellings and weird characters within the sentence but I was able to make out the jist of the question and respond. This was a positive experience and I’m sure it will get better over time.

### 3/5 — It got the job done...

*2020-02-15, version 3.0.27*

However, my ‘practice’ answer was still playing while the app was recording the response to my first ‘real’ question. Upload speed seemed a bit slow too. I used the app on my iPhone and only have 4G, so maybe that’s why. I think the user interface could be a bit more intuitive. For my interview, I had two chances to answer a question. After answering a question the first time, I had two options: ‘record response’ or ‘next question’. I think better prompts/buttons would be ‘record again’ or ‘upload response’ (or something similar) and then have the option to select ‘next question’ after the file uploads.

### 4/5 — Interview process

*2020-01-28, version 3.0.27*

I was pleasant surprised about doing this form of process for a job interview. I was a bit nervous at first but as the interview went on I felt it was a very nice alternative for people who have a rough time with face to face encounters. I did run into a glitch where I was booted out of a question halfway through my answer. I called technical support and they were very nice and gave me a few suggestions on what to do. I was able to complete the interview but I am still not sure how the glitch affected my interview. Overall this is a really nice tool.

### 3/5 — Screen freeze

*2019-12-08, version 3.0.27*

Twice during my four question interview the screen froze while uploading my response. The screen states do not leave the application so I was unsure as to what to do next. After a few minutes of no activity I left the app and when I went back in it continued with the question I answered. Later I read in the help I did the right thing. It would be better that before you start the process somewhere it would tell you what to do if the screen freezes so that you do not panic during this stressful process.

### 3/5 — Prefer person to person or video conference

*2019-11-24, version 3.0.27*

The option to practice is great , but the “practice” should actually display a question instead of reading this is where your question will be. I sat there waiting fir the question until i realized that was in fact it. Another thing that I didn’t like was how slow the uploads were , interviewing is hard enough without having the interviewer there and this long time between questions is nerve-wrecking . Also in the practice they should give you tips. However , it was convenient and if you wanted to stop and resume later it would take you the last unanswered question.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — App is terrible all company’s searching for serious inquiries should avoid

*2020-09-29, version 3.0.28*

This app just ruined my entire interview process for a position I’ve Been waiting for. App lagging during my second recording of my first question in my interview. I press stop to record because don’t want to send a choppy video and reduce my chances. Low and behold takes the cut of me reaching for the camera, trying to close app and uploads it as my response to first question. Makes interviews more of a headache than they already are..... nobody getting interviewed would prefer this over person to person interaction (coming from someone with social anxiety that speaks volumes on how bad it is). Just adds unnecessary stress and anxiety process that should be relatively smooth. Would rather have a panel of 8 people interviewing me at once than use this god forsake app again.

### 1/5 — I hope the format did not cost me a job

*2020-06-29, version 3.0.28*

When I first logged in, I had to agree to a page of “terms and conditions.” Unfortunately, I didn’t have any choice but to accept because the interview is a requirement of the application process, even though the screen was completely blank! Also there weren’t any instructions and the practice question did not provide enough guidance. This created a situation where I believe the answer I gave the first time were erased. I decided to add answers to the questions I thought I missed to later questions. I’m hoping all my recordings can be viewed in order for the reviewer to get a complete and accurate assessment of my answers.

### 1/5 — The WOOOOOORST. The worst in the world.

*2020-04-27, version 3.0.27*

I cannot fathom how anyone could have coded this app and thought, “yeah, I totally knocked it our of the park with this one.” We’re all using more systems like MS Teams or Zoom due to the shelter in place orders for the Covid-19 Pandemic and I’ve yet to have any problems as far as high speed connections go. So why does this app in particular take nearly 3x the time it takes to respond before the response has been sent. And it happens after EVERY. SINGLE. QUESTION!

Honestly, if I had to chose between using this app again or going to an actual interview and contracting the coronavirus, I would, well still prolly use the app, but I would still give pause to consider it.

There is no way on Earth that I would ever recommend this app to anyone for any reason.

### 1/5 — Not a big fan honestly

*2020-01-08, version 3.0.27*

Watching the timer, and knowing that the answers you are giving can’t exactly turn into a conversation is a little embarrassing. Getting 2 minutes to describe your biggest successes seems like a rush. I ended up barely saying anything coherent at all in my opinion because that timer is ticking away and I’m in a silent room talking to myself. Onsite in person interviews go so much better for me, I think I was actually more nervous for this than I was in a room with 5 executives because like I said, at least then it’s conversational and not just me trying to fill an empty void with my words. I don’t feel my answers were very good at all in this situation but they are usually full of detail and I can provide multiple answers rather than trying to think of something that will fit in a 2 minute window or trying to think of which of your examples you want to cut from the conversation. Totally not my style.

### 1/5 — Had to restart several times

*2020-01-06, version 3.0.27*

Playback of my recordings was hit or miss with the audio, sometimes it played sometimes it didn’t. I can only hope the submitted responses actually have sound. App froze up and caused me to restart several times. I tried both WiFi and cellular data and had the same terrible experience with both. *Update* After finishing my interview I received an email stating I needed to re-record several answers as they uploaded with no sound I am running an iPhone XR with iOS 13 and when I tried to re record my answers I ended up having to restart the app after every question as any re-record or next question would record without sound.

### 1/5 — Slow upload speeds and poor practice

*2019-11-12, version 3.0.27*

This was my first digital interview. I had allotted the appropriate amount of time for the interview, but did not anticipate the awful upload speeds in the building. I practiced and did not realize that the lack of practice questions left me simply fumbling to talk to myself while recording. Then, I stumbled a few times and re-recorded the first question. It was what it was, but it then proceeded to drain my phone battery while slowly uploading the answer. This necessitated me running back to my desk for a charging cable. I cannot record at my desk. So, during the first chance for the second question, I was looking for a closer room to record in. Needless to say, when I found a room and recorded an answer, I was not at my best. Then the slow upload again! At this point I got kicked out of that room due to a meeting. I was able to get back to my original room and record the last answer to the third question. Again, not at my best. Third question took less time to upload because I was flustered and short with my answer. If I am successful in securing an interview, it will be in spite of this app rather than because of it.

### 1/5 — The most impersonal interview ever

*2019-11-07, version 3.0.27*

As I look at the camera, I keep thinking to myself “this is not the way I talk or look”. I realize that the camera has a powerful effect on this process. If you are comfortable with a camera, you will do good. If you are not comfortable, then tough luck. You could be the best candidate, but you could look like a fool. I hope this is not the future of interviews. I literally passed on an interview using this company due to the intimidation in the process. You get a timer on the question being asked and then you get limited attempts at answering questions. You will certainly not like your first attempts, so when you get to your last attempt, that is when you realize “are you serious? Do you want a an actor or you want the right resource?”

### 1/5 — Awkward and glitchy

*2019-04-17, version 3.0.27*

So incredibly awkward. Furthermore, I received a phone call when I was in the middle of answering a question. I rejected the phone call, it did not return me to the question and moved right along to the next question. So for my very first interview question, they have half of an answer. Which I had to finish answering a couple questions later when I had time.

Outside of that one enormous issue that I had, it’s just an incredibly awkward situation to be in. Generally, I’m great with interviews. This is so unpersonal. You’re just talking into a device with no own on the other end. It’s hard to transition answers, it doesn’t feel at all like an interview.

This was for a job that I should be a top candidate for and had no worry in the world about getting, and now I don’t feel the slightest bit confident.

### 1/5 — Subpar experience

*2019-03-26, version 3.0.27*

I was only able to record my answer 3 times. Not knowing what they were going to ask me I was forced to load the question in order to see what they were asking me, then canceling it so that I had time to formulate my response. This is unlike a normal face to face interview where you have time to discuss different things with your interviewer and you’re not restricted to 90 seconds to formulate and present your response in a clear and concise manner. I felt like I was forced to waste one attempt every time I answered a question because there would be a 10 second timer counting down for me to begin my response and I had no time to really get my thoughts together. I would have much rather had a face to face interview or at least time to present my response since it is limited to at most 3 minute responses.

### 1/5 — Unsatisfied

*2019-03-17, version 3.0.27*

First time using this app for an interview. I like that fact that you can re-record as many times as you want. But since the practice video didn’t work and didn’t give me the practice questions I had to do the real one over and over again. I have an iPhone 10. I don’t have a home button. I also didn’t realize that once the timer went off for the question that it started recording. Once I found out I was recording I stopped the video. I had to exit out of the app real quick and to do that I have to swipe up. When I swiped up it hit next question on accident and I was unable to go back and fix it. Which I’m already nervous when it comes to interviews. Not being able to fix it and give an actual answer gave me an anxiety attack. I’m really good with technology but I just feel like y’all should look over a few things and maybe give the option to go back or at least to view all videos at the end and make changes as needed. Especially since you use this for interviews and we want them to be perfect.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Very easy to use

*2022-06-15, version 3.0.40*

I found the app to be easy to use and navigate especially giving time to formulate responses. Having the question on the screen was awesome as well. A prior interview with another health plan was horrendous! It asked the question then the question disappeared, it was also too quick from completing a question to the next. This app was the best and I felt very comfortable during the process. The amount of time allotted was sufficient for each and every question.

### 5/5 — Definitely Unique!

*2022-01-21, version 3.0.40*

I found the whole process quite easy and user friendly. I’ve never interviewed like this before but understand that things are changing from the traditional way of things being done. I do feel it does take away from meeting a person face to face for the first time and forming that initial impression, making the whole process impersonal. Sometimes that alone can tell people a lot about each other. Otherwise, a 5 star rating for ease of use and functionality

### 5/5 — New Experience

*2021-08-21, version 3.0.37*

I was not familiar with this interviewing process, it was very new and I never had this type of interview before. I was nervous at first, but when I relaxed things went smoothly. I appreciate the experience and I can see this will be the future of interview process. I used my IPad and the volume was clear to understand. Picture quality was exceptional. Thank you for the experience, it is greatly appreciated.

### 5/5 — Works fine, as far as I can tell

*2021-07-28, version 3.0.37*

I appreciate the ability to practice working with the system and watching the playback of myself. I also really like the grayed out background of myself present while preparing to get recorded so I can check how straight my hair and collar were. I don’t see any reason why this wouldn’t have worked perfectly. Here’s hoping the actual application went well!

### 5/5 — Smooth

*2020-11-05, version 3.0.28*

I recently this application to apply for a position having never experienced an online video interview this app made it very smooth and easy. It gives you opportunities to practice and get used to talking to a camera if you’re not used to that it can be intimidating. The rest of the process is managed by the type of interview a potential employer is using and the questions are tailored from them. All in all I enjoyed the process.

### 5/5 — It’s not me, it’s you...

*2019-04-12, version 3.0.27*

From my understanding, it’s the employer who chooses how many times you can re-record, how long you have to answer each question and if you are able to play back the video. Those were really my only issues. It was easy to use, the practice was effective and realistic but I thought I would be able to play back my videos to ensure my sound was okay. That was my mistake. It was good, the app was good, it wasn’t either of us, but ultimately because of the employers choices, the experience wasn’t 100% for me.

### 5/5 — Satisfied, easy to use and non intimidating!

*2018-12-12, version 3.0.27*

I was a little skeptical and nervous to go into this recorded video not necessarily having an office in my home where I could record it in a super professional setting- but I found a neutral spot in my home and I just decided to be me, talk about all the questions genuinely that they had asked and give them my Feedback in the best way possible. I feel like this software is very modernized and I think it’s a wonderful idea especially saving people time and hassle to be able to have the privilege to do it on their own time in their own environment! I think the questions were perfect I think the amount of time taken to do the interview was perfect it was not overdrawn and all in all I believe that it was very professional! I enjoyed this!

### 4/5 — Review

*2023-02-22*

I think the software works well, and I did not have long loading times. However, this was my first time using this app and company, and the links in the emails were not visible. The instructions were also vague, and I am still unsure which recordings were being uploaded and which were being discarded. I think it would be helpful to show all recordings you have made, and be able to pick which ones to upload. I also did not have the option to view my recordings, so I could not see if my camera was set up in the proper place. I had to switch between this app and my camera app in order to adjust the framing of the videos.

### 4/5 — RC

*2022-07-16, version 3.0.40*

Yes, overall, the process went well. But, like a previous reviewer, the “play” and “record” option confused me on the first question when I tried to record the first question a second time. I thought I was replaying what I had recorded rather than starting another recording. I stopped it and that was the end - with nothing on the new recording and no way of redoing it. So, I just didn’t try to do that again to be safe. It worked well and I did appreciate the practice opportunities.

### 4/5 — One thing I would fix

*2022-01-07, version 3.0.40*

Using the app itself was easy to understand, however when I was watching one of my attempts back I decided I wanted to re-record the answer and hit the “Record Question” button. When I did, the audio from my previous attempt kept playing and the recording captured the last 5-10 seconds of it, thus wasting that time from the attempt I was actually recording (it was my last attempt too). I would suggest that if someone does what I did that the audio from the previous attempt turns off so those precious seconds aren’t wasted by a previous attempt.
