Good content. One little glitch, it seemed to start for about ten seconds, then repeat again at the start of each segment. But no big deal. Highly recommend this if you secide to do Hana. ### 2/5 — Not as helpful or as detailed as other guided travel apps *2026-05-08* We downloaded this app for the Road To Hana trip when we were in Maui last time. We thought it was the same one. We had used last year, but it was not sad sadly. It skipped over a bunch of places that we had seen the year before thanks to the other app, which we still cannot figure out which one we had used last year, but it was not this one. This one was more generic, had a stop at only the typical stops along the way to Hannah and was extremely repetitive with the introduction of every new stop. We missed almost half of the narration due to this. Or it would freeze entirely. Or I would have to force quit the app, then reboot phone. Arg ### 2/5 — Needs offline mode. *2022-09-28* Unfortunately, I didn’t have the best experience with this app. To start, there was an annoying beep that would keep beeping unless you click on the map view. Secondly, I was really disappointed because most of the drive, I didn’t have service so that meant the app didn’t work. I thought it would at least have the narration downloaded to the phone to be able to at least manually play each audio clip. Only got to listen to a few of the audio clips before my service ran out and we couldn’t use the app. The UI is a bit counterintuitive. **Developer response:** We appreciate your thorough feedback! When we were out of cell range the app would crash a few times. Even restarted my device to see if it helped. A bit frustrating. Better to have someone other than the driver to tend to the app! Some of the announcements came late and we had to do a tight u-turn to get to the point of interest. Granted, the Europeans did some damage in the past, there were plenty of references to ethnic bias. We loved the Road to Hanna and don’t regret it. **Developer response:** Thank you for your review! I highly recommend spending the $7.95 for this experience. ### 5/5 — Great tours!! *2022-07-19* We did two of the Shaka Guide tours — the North Shore of Oahu and the Road to Hana on Maui. Both were terrific — you can take as long (or as little) at a number of different attractions, and the guide provides helpful information about food options, facilities, etc. We would definitely consider doing another tour if we ever have the opportunity! **Developer response:** Thanks for your feedback! Would freeze and often crash. When restarting it tries to connect to the internet (even though the audio tour was already downloaded) and hangs because places like Hana don’t have cell service. Because it is NOT clear when you’ve purchased it. It never downloaded and therefore would NOT work on the Road to Hana sue to the spotty or lack of Cell reception. Even after it was “Downloaded” we made three of the many many narrated stops and it would kick Me out of the App and then if by chance we got in service, it would not pick back up and the app page froze! **Developer response:** Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience you experienced on the Road to Hana. Having access to the offline map and guide was basically a necessity for certain parts of the trip due to lack of cell service. I would totally recommend this to anyone doing a road to Hana trip!!!! ### 5/5 — Must have! *2026-07-07* The Road to Hana is a fun trip, and we made the full loop around. The additional commentary about the islands history, stops and “see this from the road” were worth it. I would use again! We found the music a bit annoying but that’s just a personal preference. We are older and couldn’t hear unless we turned the volume up so the music got irritating. I was glad we could turn it off. The tour guide told us everything we could have hoped to know. It gave us tips about spots you would only expect from a local. There’s only one reason I am giving 4 stars and it is not the fault of the app. On the road to Hana, we kept losing cell service and we missed a few spots. All in all, I was very happy with the app itself. Update…I received a response from the developer explaining that the tour should be fully downloaded before going on the road to Hana to avoid the loss of information when there was no internet access. I’m not very tech savvy but I’m sure most people are better at it. Mahalo!!! *2025-11-10* I was initially hesitant to try this app since it doesn’t have many reviews. However, I chose it because I much preferred the narrator’s voice compared to the other more well reviewed app and it was more affordable. I must say, the production value is outstanding: excellent storytelling, well-chosen music and sound effects, and flawless offline GPS positioning. I didn’t touch my phone once during the drive, except when I stopped at the Huli Huli chicken place. I purchased the bundle, and it made me want to experience every road trip in Maui. The app made the journey far more enjoyable, as I never had to check where the next stop was. The narrator’s guidance was superb—he clearly tells you where to turn, what to look out for, and where to park. It truly felt like having a personal guide with me the entire time.
