## What is RoadHistorical?

Texas has more than 16,000 official historical markers, gunfights, ghost towns, cattle trails, courthouse fires, forgotten founders. You drive past their stories every day. RoadHistorical makes sure you never miss one again.

DISCOVER AS YOU GO
Turn on Discovery Mode and RoadHistorical quietly watches the road while you drive or walk, even with the app minimized. Pass a marker and you'll get a notification with its full story. No searching, no typing. History finds you.

THE COMPLETE TEXAS MARKER MAP
Every official Texas Historical Commission marker, on a fast offline-ready map. Full marker text, photos, and directions to each one, even where cell service disappears, which in Texas is exactly where the good stories are.

BUILD YOUR TEXAS STORY
Every marker you visit earns you engraved badges and builds your personal interest radar, see whether you're drawn to frontier forts, pioneer cemeteries, railroad towns, or Republic-era history. From First Discovery to true Texas Historian.

ASK THE TOUR GUIDE
Curious for more than the marker says? The built-in AI tour guide answers questions about any marker, hands-free.

ROADHISTORICAL+, YOUR DRIVE, NARRATED
Upgrade to RoadHistorical+ and the road starts talking:

• RoadTrip Radio - hands-free stories play automatically as you pass markers, like a radio station broadcasting the history outside your window. Works from your lock screen.
• RoadTrip Creator - build a road trip through history: pick a destination and get a route threaded through the best markers along the way, or follow curated routes and walking tours.
• Premium narration voice for a richer listen.

Try RoadHistorical+ free for 7 days.

Whether you're a lifelong Texan, a weekend road-tripper, or the person who always pulls over for those silver markers, this is the state's history, in your pocket, told where it happened.

Discovery Mode uses background location to alert you near markers; continued use of GPS in the background can decrease battery life.

### 5/5 — This app is so helpful

*2026-08-13*

I love this app. I didn’t realize how much history was around me! I downloaded this app a few months ago and I’ve already learned so much about my city and other locations around me. I love history and learning and if you do as well you should definitely give this app a try!

**Developer response:** I’m so happy to hear that! Glad you are enjoying it, and we’re adding more features all the time! Thank you again for leaving this review and being a user of the app!

### 1/5 — Can't plan

*2026-08-09*

Will not allow true planning. No one way one stops allowed; and the in-app review is broken. I had to subscribe before I could even try it out! Bandits.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback. I’m sorry the route planner didn’t support the trip you were trying to create. It currently requires at least 3 stops, and support for simple 1- and 2-stop trips is coming in the next update.

I do want to clarify the subscription concern: RoadHistorical’s core app and historical marker map are free, and you were able to use the app before starting Plus. The annual Plus plan also begins with a 7-day free trial, so you have not been charged and can cancel before the trial ends at no cost.

If you email me at support@roadhistorical.app, I’d be happy to personally help with the route you were trying to build.

### 4/5 — Optimistic but disappointed

*2026-06-15*

I love Texas history and was excited to find this app. Thought I could take a few motorcycle trips to see the markers and learn more about local history. Was disappointed to see multiple mistakes on the app related to markers around Lubbock area. There were pictures that definitely were not the location of markers, and one of the markers said it was about 5 miles away, but It’s actually is about 5 1/2 hours away.

**Developer response:** Hi Charity! Thank you again, I want to follow up because I don't think my first reply fully addressed what you found. A marker showing 5 miles away when it's actually hours away isn't the linear-distance behavior I described; that sounds like a genuine location error in that marker's data, and I want to fix it. I'm auditing the Lubbock-area markers this week. On the images: you're right that some are showing the wrong place, and I'm correcting those as we build out the photo library. Thank you for catching real issues.. It genuinely helps.

### 5/5 — Amazing app!

*2026-06-08*

It’s an amazing app. You should expand to other states now.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your review! I’m so happy you are enjoying it. For now I’m focusing on Texas, but who know what the future holds :)

### 5/5 — New appreciation

*2026-05-05*

I’ve lived in Fort Worth my whole life and somehow this app has already taught me so much about the city. It’s crazy how many historical spots I’ve driven past without ever knowing the story behind them. Super cool idea and really easy to use. Definitely worth downloading.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.2.3 — 2026-08-13

NEW: Live Activity. See your trip progress, stops remaining, and what's next right on your Lock Screen and Dynamic Island, without opening the app.

Also in this release:
- Premium narration upgraded across all 16,000 markers for RoadHistorical+ listeners
- A cleaner photo library: markers now show real photographs of each site
- "Start drive" opens turn-by-turn navigation directly
- Pause and resume narration without losing your place, including from the Lock Screen
- Faster, more reliable marker images and offline behavior

### 1.2.2 — 2026-08-02

Three things that were quietly broken are fixed in this release.

• Premium narration now actually plays. "Listen now" had been falling back to
the basic voice on every marker — more than 15,000 markers now play the real
  recorded narration.

• Marker photos. Roughly one in four markers was showing a state flag or a map
instead of an actual photograph. Those are gone.

• "Start drive" now opens turn-by-turn navigation instead of a route preview.

New:
• Live Activity — trip progress on your Lock Screen and Dynamic Island. See
stops remaining and what's next without opening the app.

Also improved:
• Pause and resume narration without losing your place, including from the
  Lock Screen.
• Badges you earn are announced properly, including several at once.
• "Continue as Guest" works from every screen.
• Faster, more reliable marker images and offline behavior.

### 1.2.1 — 2026-07-20

bug fixes and improvements

### 1.2 — 2026-07-19

The biggest update yet! Introducing RoadHistorical+:

• RoadTrip Radio - hands-free stories play automatically as you drive past historical markers, right from your lock screen. Like a radio station for the history outside your window.
• RoadTrip Creator - build road trips threaded through the best markers on your way, or follow curated routes and walking tours.

All-new Journey experience:
• Badges reimagined as engraved collectible seals, with a whole set of new badges to earn.
• Your personal interest radar, a new screen that maps the kind of history you love, from frontier forts to pioneer cemeteries.

Quality-of-life upgrades:
• Discovery Mode now has a simple on/off toggle, so drive-by history alerts are always one tap away.
• Saved locations got a fully revamped look for browsing the places you've bookmarked.
• Listen to any marker's article with a tap - turn narration on and off as you read.
• Polish and fixes throughout.

RoadHistorical+ is free to try for 7 days. The map, discovery alerts, and marker library remain free for everyone.

### 1.1.2 — 2026-06-14
