### 2/5 — 5 yrs later mobile app still sad

*2026-05-30, version 1.1.17*

Mobile is a complete after thought. I paid for a five year subscription and they never made a remarkable mobile update, not once. Switching to Obsidian because I’m tired of my note taking crippled by slow loading times and a janky interface. The Mac app is Electron, and it’s underwhelming too.

### 2/5 — Needs some work

*2025-05-04, version 1.1.5*

It take roughly 12-15 seconds to open the app, load a nearly empty graph and begin typing. By that time I’ve long forgotten what I wanted to type. I like Roam, and what it’s trying to do but unfortunately it’s next to unusable on mobile. I much prefer other apps or even finding a pen and paper is a better experience that using this app.

### 2/5 — Settings when

*2025-02-02, version 1.1.4*

Lack of options to change the font size make this app unisable on the latest Mac laptop

### 3/5 — Almost there

*2025-01-20*

Native experience is 100x better, now the app is usable. Still missing a key thing: offline mode. The app doesn’t open without internet, only quick notes can be created which aren’t native

### 4/5 — Keeps getting better

*2024-12-24, version 1.1.4*

Now with Face ID this is actually quite a good app. The team keeps making it better. If security for roam depot was more clear this would be an amazing app.

### 3/5 — Better than nothing

*2023-12-19, version 1.0.44*

At least there is an app. Nothing more than opening on a mobile web browser without having to sign in all the time.

### 3/5 — Can’t open my graph half the time

*2023-05-23*

Half the time to try to open my graph it just shows the spinning roam icon nonstop. Tried force quitting and reinstalling app but still persists. Will update
Back to 5 stars once this bug is fixed.

### 1/5 — No longer works at all

*2023-05-12, version 1.0.24*

When I go to my timeline just shows a blank page. Tried closing and reopening, deleting and reinstalling.

### 1/5 — Не работает в РФ

*2023-05-05*

Разработчики не дают возможность пользоваться без привязи visa mastercard. Через appstore оплатить нельзя.

### 1/5 — Remarkably Useless After So Much Time

*2023-03-12, version 1.0.24*

How is the app still so terrible? A disgrace to all us users who’ve been supportive, paying customers for years.

### 4/5 — Good so far

*2023-03-01, version 1.0.24*

Enjoying using roam. I’m hopeful it’s a great solution for me and my love for note taking but struggle to keep things organized.

I’d love it if I could have multiple windows of roam open on my iPad. Please add support for this!

### 2/5 — Come on man make an app

*2023-02-24, version 1.0.24*

Works on the share sheet maybe 25% of the time. Now it just doesn’t even show up as an option. Hard to understand how a notes app that costs $15 a month can’t put out a functioning iOS app when every free one at least can do that. Like how is this not the ultimate priority? It’s 2023!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Can’t load large graphs

*2024-10-25, version 1.0.98*

For a long time, I’ve been unable to use the app because I always get this error: “Your graph is too large, try opening another graph.”

Now I use phonetonote to enter information to Roam on the go. But I still don’t have a way to access my graph.

### 1/5 — Make it free

*2024-05-20*

You don’t have a choice. This is dipping. At least give a chance for people to try out rather than asking straight money. It doesn’t make sense anymore. The community is more than half dead.

### 1/5 — Not useable, incomplete App!

*2024-03-20, version 1.0.69*

I installed the app and created an account but the app is not useable. I get the message below there is no link to website etc. I do not understand how Apple approved an app that is not complete.

“Before using the mobile application, create a graph on the desktop or web app. You can also sign out and sign in to a different account.”

### 1/5 — Can’t edit entries

*2024-02-13, version 1.0.44*

Can’t do a basic task. UI is ugly. UX is weird and very computer-like instead of mobile friendly. App leaves a lot to be desired.

### 1/5 — Disappointing

*2023-11-26, version 1.0.44*

I have been with Roam for years, waiting for them to improve at least as fast as the other platforms. However, they are so slow and their app is a total disappointment. Now I’m thinking of transferring all my notes to a more reliable and promising service. It is sad because I started with the Roam about 4 years ago ans thout this is it, this is the ultimate note-taking app that i would need.

### 1/5 — Slow load times

*2023-11-22, version 1.0.44*

The slow load time makes this app unusable. Every time I open it I have to wait 10 seconds for it to load.

### 1/5 — Slow performance and poor usability

*2023-11-14, version 1.0.44*

The speed of page loads is frustratingly slow regardless of the size or type of data pages contain. It consistently saps productivity.

Countless usability issues make authoring any form or length of writing cumbersome. Because of this, I now often first use a different application (such as Apple Notes, Google Docs, etc.) to perform the majority of my work; only after I create the bulk of the content I need to produce do I then transfer it into Roam.

Roam has significant potential but it's squandered due to a lack of human-centered design and not meeting table-stake performance expectations.

### 1/5 — iPhone app unusable

*2023-10-16, version 1.0.44*

The desktop version is fantastic but the iPhone app is unusable. It’s impossible to type continuously without the UI bugging out, and this has been left unfixed for several years.

### 1/5 — Unusable as someone with a large graph

*2023-06-09, version 1.0.24*

Roam wasn’t built in a day. Or a year or more cuz it’s been the same since I started using this app.

### 1/5 — Useless garbage

*2023-05-28, version 1.0.24*

Share sheet is non-functional. Only way to add a link to text is by typing out the mardown link syntax. Slow to release upgrades, poor comma with paying customers.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great

*2025-01-12, version 1.1.4*

Thanks for your efforts. No other tool comes close.

### 5/5 — Amazing note-taking experience

*2024-12-27*

The experience of using Roam Research is amazing for taking daily notes on everything. I’ve tried a few different apps, but Roam is the best! The mobile experience is amazing, and navigating between your bookmarks is easy and interactive. The team has worked hard to provide an amazing mobile experience and I’m very happy with this one. Encrypted graphs can be unlocked using Face ID, you can switch between native view, and more! The support team is also very helpful and friendly. Thank you very much!

### 5/5 — Fast, native Roam for iOS

*2024-11-06, version 1.0.98*

This latest iteration of Roam Mobile is a great user experience, and finally allows you to use Roam in a native way on iOS.

### 5/5 — Native view just works

*2024-09-11, version 1.0.98*

I’ve been using Roam every day for many years now, mostly on my computer. Today I discovered the “native view” and it’s everything I wanted on the mobile app. No more startup delay, fully responsive, and very native-like. I wish the font was smaller/like their original design but apart from that it’s 5-stars from me.

### 5/5 — Mobile has come a long way

*2024-06-20, version 1.0.93*

Roam Research is the best tool for note taking. Ive been using it since 2020 and its been rock solid for me. The initial hype at its launch has waned considerably, but I still find it faster, easier, and more effective than its competitors. If you’re new or haven’t tried it in a while, I highly encourage you to give it a shot. The mobile app in particular has come out ahead big time.

### 5/5 — Impressive pace of improvement on the last weeks

*2024-04-26*

The app has been neglected for a long time, but it now catches up very quickly. There’s been several updates over the last weeks and each of them has some feature that I am using on a regular basis. I am a heavy Roam user, which is my basic work environment right now. The fast mobile extension is a game changer.

### 5/5 — Depevop

*2023-06-21, version 1.0.24*

Please Make some changes and develop it

### 5/5 — Decent app but breaks with large graphs

*2023-05-19, version 1.0.24*

I love roam research. I’ve played with all the competitors and nothing comes close for research and academia. The mobile app is decent. It actually has full Roam functionality unlike competitors like Tana that can only do quick capture.

### 5/5 — This app is my Second Brain

*2022-09-22, version 1.0.20*

Forget Evernote, Notion, and any clones out there. Before Roam I was collecting notes and never going back to them, my Evernote and Apple Notes were packed with a useless mess of text, and tagging never helped. ADHD always made it hard for me to organize and remember where I put things in my notes. Roam is completely different. The app intelligently links your notes into a graph and builds up connections over time, so the bigger your collection the more useful it is! It’s relieving to know that you can trust the system and never worry about forgetting things ever again.

Roam Research is the most intuitive and powerful tool for note taking, research, zettlekasten, ontology, project management, relational and graph modelling, interstitial journaling, get-it-done productivity, and tracing your thoughts/thinking back to the source. The “Daily Notes” page is brilliant and is eventually going to be copied by every other note app. Every page and line of text is linked together, and you can add a ToDo anywhere in your notes which is fantastic for keeping in the flow of your work.

I can’t recommend this app enough, it will completely change your thinking about notes and productivity.

### 5/5 — Amazing but some feedback to make it better

*2022-09-18, version 1.0.20*

I’m a big fan. This has changed my life so much and so much better than Notion or notes app.

The biggest gripe I have is selecting a graph and entering my password each time I have to open my graph.

If I have entered it once on my device, could it just take me to daily notes on my last used graph? It would make life so MUCH easier
