## What is RoamLore?

How well do you really know Japan?

RoamLore is a playful way to discover the world — its geography, culture, and history — one region at a time. We're starting with Japan, because we had to start somewhere this good.

Explore Japan one region at a time with Poko, your tanuki guide. (Tanuki are folklore shapeshifters; this one shape-shifted into a rather dedicated teacher.) Travel from Tokyo to Kyoto, Osaka, and beyond: finally read those place names, discover local food and traditions, and build a real sense of where things are — and why they matter.

The more you know a place, the better it feels to be there — so when you finally go, the names, the food, and the streets already mean something.

How it works:
- Answer a short set of daily quizzes
- Unlock new regions as you build mastery — no luck, no grinding, just learning
- Save the facts you want to remember
- Track your progress on your own passport, and collect regions like stamps

Play right away — no account, no sign-up wall. Sign in with Google or Apple anytime to keep your progress safe across devices.

Built to respect you: no ads, and we don't track you across other apps. (Poko has better things to do.)

Japan is just the beginning — the rest of the world is already packing its bags.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.0.11 — 2026-07-02

- Region unlocks look the part. The "NEW REGION OPENED" moment now shows an atlas / open-book illustration for the region instead of a generic map pin, and the inner gold ring is gone for a cleaner sealed look (#312).
- Home wears the real logo. The plain "RoamLore" wordmark in the header is now the full logo lockup, and the stray flag avatar in the corner is gone (KAZ-418).

### 1.0.9 — 2026-06-29

Poko used to mutter "and the correct answer is…" and then sprint off to the next question. We finally pinned Poko down.

Per-question reveal. The explanation now appears the instant you answer — no more hoarding all the fun facts until the end of the journey. Spotlight questions even cough up the "…ok, but what can you actually DO there?" line on the spot.

Onboarding motivation tiles went global. "Learn kanji and readings" grew up into "Names and sounds" — works for Kyoto and Lyon now. "Enjoy trivia" was rebranded to "Here for the surprises": less homework energy, more raised-eyebrow energy.
Fixed the empty Saved Knowledge message that still told you to "tap " long after the had become a bookmark. It now says "tap Save", like an honest app. Apologies to the star.

### 1.0.7 — 2026-06-26

Poko redecorated.

  - Japanese place names now use one clean font — no more ransom-note kanji.
  - The energy meter recharges as a gold ring (oddly satisfying to watch).
  - "Next energy in" is honest to the minute now, instead of rounding up to a vague hour.
  - Sound no longer goes quiet after the app sits idle (it just needed a nudge).
  - Quiet, anonymous analytics to help us tune the core loop — no personal data.

  Same Poko. Better dressed.

### 1.0.4 — 2026-06-22

Poko did some housekeeping. Here's what's new:

- Your energy, streak, and saved facts now wake up when you do.
They used to nap in the background and greet you with yesterday's
  numbers. Rude. Fixed.
- Saved facts stay saved. They were never really gone — just shy.
Now they show up like they're supposed to.
- Clear every quiz in a region and you'll get a proper "you did it"
moment, instead of being teleported to a random prefecture
  mid-celebration.
- Squashed a crash that liked to end sessions early. It will not
  be missed.
- Your progress now saves reliably, plus some behind-the-scenes
security tightening you'll never notice (that's the idea).

Same Poko. Fewer bugs. More Japan.

### 1.0.3 — 2026-06-20

We squashed a startup gremlin that could stop the app from loading properly — launch should be smooth and reliable now.
Thanks for exploring Japan with Poko.
