## What is RoboSimL?

A driving practice tool for competition robotics teams.

Every robot in the app began as a team's own CAD. Each one is rebuilt part by part — real joints,
real pivots, real drivetrain geometry — so what you drive on your phone moves the way the machine on
the field moves.

DRIVE
Twin on-screen sticks and a set of mechanism buttons. Pick a robot, tap Drive, and you are on a
full-size field with cups, pins and toggles to rotate.

MECHANISMS THAT WORK LIKE THE REAL ONES
Claws open and close and actually hold a game piece. Cascade lifts and double reverse four-bars run
through their real travel. Pneumatic cylinders snap between two positions the way a solenoid does,
in the real 25 / 50 / 75 mm stroke classes. Intakes pull pieces in. Nothing here is an animation —
each mechanism is a physics joint being driven by a motor model.

PHYSICS TUNED AGAINST THE MACHINE
Wheel speed is set from the drivetrain's real free-spin RPM. Slam the sticks into reverse and the
robot plows to the traction limit instead of stopping dead. Raise a lift and the robot rolls in
turns, exactly as a tall robot does. Robots have real mass, and a heavy arm out front changes how
the whole thing drives.

CONTROLS YOU CAN MAKE YOURS
Resize the sticks, change their opacity, drag every button where your thumbs actually are, and
reassign what each one does. Switch a mechanism between one-button toggle and two-button hold. Set
drive and turn sensitivity. Choose which end of the robot the sticks treat as the front.

YOUR ROBOT IN THE APP
Send us your robot from inside the app — an FBX exported out of your CAD, or a URDF — and we will
build it into a drivable robot and send it back to you. Choose whether it is listed for everyone or unlocked only by a code you pass to your
own team. It takes a few days and we tell you when it is done — or tell you what to re-export if
the file cannot be made to drive.

NO ACCOUNT, NO ADS, NO PURCHASES
There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to buy. Your settings never leave your device. The app
works offline.

## Frequently asked questions about RoboSimL

### What is RoboSimL?

RoboSimL is a driving practice tool for competition robotics teams. It simulates the exact movement and mechanics of your team's custom-built robots using realistic physics.

### Can I use my own robot designs in RoboSimL?

Yes, you can send your robot's CAD files (FBX or URDF) to the developers, and they will build it into a drivable robot within the app for you. This process typically takes a few days.

### Does RoboSimL work offline?

Yes, RoboSimL works offline. There is no account required, and all your settings are stored locally on your device.

### Does RoboSimL have ads?

No, RoboSimL is completely ad-free. The app also has no in-app purchases or subscriptions.

### What kind of controls does RoboSimL offer?

RoboSimL features twin on-screen sticks and customizable mechanism buttons. You can resize, reposition, and reassign button functions to suit your preferences.

### How realistic is the robot simulation in RoboSimL?

The simulation is highly realistic, with mechanisms like claws and lifts operating through their real travel. Wheel speed is based on the drivetrain's actual free-spin RPM, and robots have real mass affecting their handling.

### What devices does RoboSimL support?

RoboSimL is available for iPhone and iPad devices.

### How often is RoboSimL updated?

The latest version of RoboSimL is 1.1, which was released on September 18, 2026. Updates are provided to improve the application.

## Version history (last 2 releases)

### 1.1 — 2026-09-18

A redesigned look, and a field that plays fairer.

MENUS AND HOME SCREEN
  • The home screen now puts your robot on a slow turntable, with the menu docked beside it.
  • A row of chips under each robot's name shows what it's built from at a glance — drive and lift wattage, and its intake or claw.
  • Menus, buttons and text are drawn in the app's own style, and now fit properly on every screen size.
  • The Configure Controller screen fits on a phone, with nothing drawn underneath another button.
  • The drive-direction switch reads "Swap Drive Direction".

DRIVING AND THE FIELD
  • Toggles turn exactly one face per hit, however hard you hit them. They used to spin freely when clipped.
  • The practice field starts with its goals loaded and its features spread out, so there's more to drive at.
  • Fixed a scoring bug where a game piece could not always be handed from the floor intake to the scoring intake.

ALSO
  • Settings ▸ Robot ▸ Show Performance Stats puts a live frame rate, memory and thermal readout on screen.
