Rocket is the only one that has the potential, used along with speaking to natives and Anki, to actually get you fluent. Rocket isn’t going to be as much fun as other apps, but you will learn a language. Before making the financial commitment to Rocket you really need to be honest with yourself. Do you really want to put in the hard work to learn a difficult foreign language or are you just having fun with it? If you want to learn a language, buy Rocket, but if you are not 100% committed it will end up being a big waste of money. ### 5/5 — My favorite language learning app *2026-08-11, version 6.9.1* I started learning Russian around the new year, and remembered using this app while learning French in high school. This app is my absolute favorite for language learning, especially because it’s free!! My favorite parts are that you are learning about the culture and language at the same time, and that you can listen back to yourself to check your pronunciation ### 4/5 — Better exercises *2026-08-10* I give it 4 stars only because while it is good, the exercises are too repetitive and not challenging enough. My only complaint is that I wish the app was more directive in what to do next. The signers are signing way too fast for beginners. I put the playback speed on .5 and it doesn’t help much. This is a huge problem for people who are trying to learn sign language for the first time. The lessons are too lazy to show new words after a while and just ‘refer to the dictionary.’ Those are all of the issues I’m having. Sorry if this seems negative but it is very frustrating when you are trying to learn 5 words in a single clip and they are signing at lightning speed. Take a page out of YouTube shorts’ book and sign them slow, and show us how to do it. Since my last review I have updated it to 1 star. This new update is, by far, the worst. I cannot pause videos or make them slower so I can learn and understand the ASL signs. It has gotten so much harder to learn and I am thoroughly frustrated. Why did you think this would be a good idea?! It has a good balance between speaking, practice, vocabulary drills, learning kana and kanji, and awesome explanations of Japanese grammar. Japanese grammar is just so conceptually different from English, it just doesn’t make sense trying to learn it by just listening.
