### 3/5 — Fine when it actually works.

*2025-05-16, version 3.6.10*

It’s not a bad app when it actually works. But it seems every months it has some sort of payment issue that comes up invariably when you’re at the crag and trying to use it. Come on Rockfax, we need more reliability!

### 2/5 — Poor app

*2025-04-07, version 3.6.10*

App logs you out no way to reset password email them get no reply poor service

### 2/5 — Nice guides but buggy and awkward app

*2024-11-17, version 3.6.9*

The guides and topos are great, however the app itself crashes frequently on my iPhone 11, and it’s often difficult to navigate and find the information I want.

### 3/5 — Not a complete work

*2024-10-02, version 3.6.9*

Great at what it does, but basically it’s an electronic collection of books, with some areas missing. For the monthly cost I would expect everything in the uk to be here

### 3/5 — Needs some love

*2024-05-29, version 3.6.8*

There are visual bugs and the app is not intuitive.

### 4/5 — Good when it works.

*2024-05-20, version 3.6.8*

Had problems with buying new crags on a legacy account but support got back to me quickly

### 4/5 — Better than a book, I suppose.

*2024-03-29, version 3.6.8*

It is not as good as it could be. For instance the Font app Boolder, is free and is first class. Shows you exactly where you are in comparison to the route location, has photo topo and, in most cases, a YouTube video link. You can tick the problem when complete or make it a project.
Can’t do any of that on the paid for Rockfax app. It’s just like a book, but on your phone. Therefore less weight to carry to the crag.
That’s it, that’s the benefit.

### 4/5 — Initially a sceptic…

*2024-03-20, version 3.6.8*

Yup initially not convinced about using an online guide, but find myself reaching for it often. Have used ROCKFAX and UKC for a long time and seamlessly synced my logbook to remind me of routes that I had done and long since forgotten! Pretty damn good.

### 5/5 — Rockfax

*2024-02-10, version 3.6.8*

Excellent app, highly recommend

### 5/5 — La mejor guía que he usado

*2023-10-02, version 3.6.8*

### 3/5 — No routes in the states

*2023-08-11, version 3.6.8*

literally 0

### 3/5 — Great app but with plenty of room for improvement

*2023-07-20, version 3.6.8*

I love using this app for its clear topos and ukc linking ability. I like the fact that I was able to trade in my previous purchases to use as credit for the subscription service.

I do wish some areas were more extensively covered and not just the ‘best of’ routes. I’d also love to have a desktop version available for Mac. I was told that it was in the works when I asked a couple of years back, however have heard nothing. The app can be hard to navigate sometimes when the ‘swipe up’ options seemingly don’t respond. I’ve also experienced completly different topo results on mine and a friends device despite both being updated at the same time.

On the whole I do love the ‘everything available’ aspect of the subscription service, but would like a little more for my £5 a month.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2023-05-09, version 3.6.8*

Much cheaper than the guide books, if you climb in lots of different places. Also, always up to date. Pretty reasonable at £5 a month (you can just pay the months you want to use it).

### 2/5 — Too many routes missing

*2023-05-01, version 3.6.8*

Guys you need to update this app! It’s useful but considering its a paid subscription app I’d expect it to be up to date at least as much as the books. Half the time I find that routes are just not shown in the app. I’ll be sticking to the books in future.

### 4/5 — Good information but apps ux needs improving

*2023-04-05, version 3.6.8*

The information the app provides is amazing but some key features seem to be missing.

Some improvements I’d love to see:
The ability to favourite crags. You can do it for individual routes but not for a crag.

The ability to view a map of a book e.g. Scottish sport climbs. Without having to come out of that section and go into the general map tab at the bottom.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Impossible

*2025-08-20, version 3.6.10*

Been going around in circles trying to make an account!

### 1/5 — unusable

*2025-08-17, version 3.6.10*

Impossible to find how to buy crags. It’s useless as it is

### 1/5 — Too expensive and grades are wrong

*2025-02-08, version 3.6.9*

Doubled in price and still spends half its time saying I’m not a member.. also the southern sandstone grades are all in French and no one knows why when they all use British tech grades there. Giving up goodbye

### 1/5 — Just paid version of UKC data

*2024-08-03*

Don’t bother, very limited info in addition to what ukc provides. Marketed otherwise

**Developer response:** Hi there. This is incorrect. The books we publish provide a huge amount more information than can be found on ukclimbing; topos, overviews, maps... all professionally curated by experts of the region.

Australia currently does not feature in the guidebooks we publish so perhaps this is the issue you're facing ?

We list all the regions covered in the App Store listing and our own landing page. If you point us to the incorrect marketing we will make sure it's fixed.

### 1/5 — This is rubbish

*2024-06-08, version 3.6.8*

I can see any of the crags it says I have to be a user to Vue but doesn’t tell me how to be a user. I click download and it just says you need to be a user to view this.

### 1/5 — Used to be great but now crashes regularly

*2022-04-11, version 3.6.5*

Used this app for a while and find it really beneficial when out and about (especially the GPS feature). However in recent months it repeatedly crashes, making it unusable :( hope this will be resolved in future update

### 1/5 — Bad recent update

*2022-03-18, version 3.6.5*

App freezes completely very frequently, pretty unusable

### 1/5 — App keeps crashing

*2021-09-25, version 3.6.4*

Anytime route loads app freezes and crashing !

### 1/5 — bbrf

*2020-09-07, version 3.6.3*

bad one

### 1/5 — Useless

*2020-07-11, version 3.6.2*

Nothing works!!!!!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Awesome App

*2026-06-06, version 3.6.10*

Works online or offline and does a great job, great customer support as well

### 5/5 — Best app I’ve used

*2026-05-16, version 3.6.10*

Think this is fabulous. Forgotten guidebook a few times and this has saved my day. The topos are particularly helpful. Also much lighter than a guidebook. Keep up the good work!

### 5/5 — Brilliant App

*2025-09-10, version 3.6.10*

Just started climbing outdoors and this is a brilliant App for finding outdoor climbing spots from your pocket without having to buy and carry around guide books.

I felt confident finding a suitable route for my ability and knowing what grade it was and how difficult it was likely to be before attempting it. We have started sport climbing first rather than trad, I wish it was easier to separate out sport and trad routes so I could easily scan through all of the sport routes in the UK (maybe there is and I just haven’t found out how to yet), but at the moment I am having to just click around on crags on the map and see if they say sport or trad and then download the crag to find out if any of the routes are at my grade or not which can be very time consuming. It would also be nice if on the search page I could just search ‘sport climbs 5a-5c’ etc and get a long list of all suitable routes on every crag.

I also like that it links straight to your UKClimbing profile and logbook too. This is great for keeping track of your climbs especially if working towards a qualification etc.

Really pleased with it so far and very reasonably priced too.

### 5/5 — Great stuff

*2025-02-18, version 3.6.9*

Great for when you are on the move and plans change and don’t have the necessary guidebook! Easy to use.

### 5/5 — RockFax Climbing App

*2024-11-11, version 3.6.9*

The best climbing App ever, but I would say that wouldn’t I 😀

### 5/5 — Amazing app with very decent coverage

*2024-08-27, version 3.6.8*

Thank you Rockfax, the app is simply doing a brilliant job.

Of course, the coverage of more areas outside of Europe would be ideal but you definitely have the best topos available

### 5/5 — Great way to get around, with further potential

*2024-06-15, version 3.6.8*

This is an incredibly useful app, and for the places that it covers is my preferred way of getting around now, and I’m fairly happy with the pricing.
Once you know where you want to go, it’s pretty easy to get to the content you want.

I’ve found myself wanting to find new sport climbing crags recently, and find that the app is not great for this sort of discovery mission. I’d love if the map view, rather than being a separate tab with its own (less powerful) search function, was a view on the Crags, Routes, and Logbook pages that tapped into their excellent search features so that I could: search for ‘England bouldering’ in the Crags tab and see options on the map, search for routes of a particular grade and quality in the Routes tab and see them on the map, see my ticks from my logbook on a map.

A few other things on my wishlist for this app are:
I’d like to get to the area access info quicker. When viewing topos for an area in a crag, I would like if the gray area info bar (with its all-important little ‘i’ button for area access info) would stay pinned at the top so I don’t have to scroll back up to get it
I’d like to be able to worry less about storage space
Allow deleting crags straight from crags tab without clicking in to the guidebook first?
Auto delete unused crags?
More progressive loading of crags? Maybe you can open any crag without having to download all the hi-res images, just the thumbnails. The hi-res images just get loaded in on demand like a webpage and then you can say if you want it stored longer term for offline use?
I’d like to be able to know whether a crag is useful to me without having to download all the image data. In the list of crags tab when you’ve selected a guidebook, show the climbing type, grade histogram and number of routes without having to download the crag image data
Richer UKC integration
Show public feedback of routes, not just ascent notes
Show and allow input of UKC grade and quality feedback
Support emoji in ascent notes, at the moment just see question marks which is a bit confusing

Thanks for creating this app, it’s really a great way of using the Rockfax data.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2024-04-29, version 3.6.8*

It’s a game changer no longer needing to take pictures of the guidebook all the time. The quality of the route topos are incredible👌

### 5/5 — Amazing way to scout trips

*2024-03-07, version 3.6.8*

This app is so great. You can scroll across the UK and the world to explore climbs in a way you can’t really do before. Ok, UKC has a similar function, but the Rockfax app executes it much better with a way better interface. Well done guys!

### 5/5 — The best climbing app on the market

*2024-02-23, version 3.6.8*

The topos and route descriptions are the best there is. A massive coverage of crags and areas as well. Loved using the offline maps to pick my way way between boulders or approach mountain crags! Superb!
