DISCOVER THOUSANDS OF SPOTS
Browse a curated map of rockhounding sites across the country. Tap any pin to see what's been found there, how to get there, and what conditions to expect.

KNOW WHERE YOU CAN LEGALLY COLLECT
Toggle land overlays for BLM, National Forest, and National Parks to instantly see which areas allow casual collecting and which don't. Avoid trespassing on private land or restricted parcels before you ever leave the truck.

DETAILED SITE INFORMATION
Every spot includes:
• What rocks, minerals, and fossils have been found
• Land agency and access rules
• GPS coordinates and directions
• Weather and trip-planning info
• Notes from other rockhounds

PLAN YOUR TRIP
Check the weather at any site before you drive out. See nearby amenities like gas, food, lodging, and restrooms so you know what you're walking into.

YOUR PERSONAL FIND LOG
Save spots you've visited, mark favorites, and keep a private log of your finds. Your saved spots stay on your device. Your secret locations are yours alone.

DRAW YOUR OWN ROUTES
Draw lines on the map to mark trails you've walked, ground you've covered, or routes you want to come back to. Color-code them and save them privately.

OFFLINE-READY
Download map regions before you head into the field. Cell service is rare where the good rocks are, and RockHoundR keeps working when your signal doesn't.

• Fossil collectors
• Prospectors and gold panners
• Mineral and crystal collectors
• Geology students and educators

### 1/5 — Not great

*2026-08-01*

I’m very familiar with the rockhounding areas around me and the info on this was definitely scraped from data available from the DNR, with a lot of inaccuracies including calling a mine a completely different name. Not worth it.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback. What you saw are historic spots: old mine and locality records we include for research and reference, not verified active collecting sites. Names in those old records often differ from what locals call a place today. We recently added a "Historic" tag on these spots to make the difference clearer, so it may be worth another look. And if you send us the mine with the wrong name, we'll gladly correct it.

### 1/5 — Horrible

*2026-07-24*

Downloaded and deleted three times. Froze up the first two times on the logo screen. Third time it let me zoom in to where it says I would be searching then froze up.

**Developer response:** We fixed this in the latest update. Please update the app and try again. If it still froze up, email us at support@rockhoundr.com and we'll help you out. Thanks!

### 1/5 — Still doesn’t work

*2026-07-22*

Supposedly they fixed it but still won’t go past logo screen.

**Developer response:** Sorry for the trouble. We tracked down the issue and it’s fixed in the latest version. Please update and give it another try. If it still freezes, email us at support@rockhoundr.com and we’ll help you out. Thanks!

### 5/5 — Very useful and cool app

*2026-07-05*

Nice work devs, very cool app my kids can’t wait to start taking family trips to all the cool rock spots on our app I 10/10 recommend this all

### 5/5 — Useful even in places I know well

*2026-07-05*

Downloaded the app a few weeks ago. The second location I checked out turned into one of my best days of collecting this year. Ended up finding agate that’s now sitting on my display shelf. Could have been luck but the app definitely pointed me in the right direction.

### 1/5 — Scam App

*2026-07-04*

There are zero locations listed, it’s just a blank map

**Developer response:** The app is not a scam. It includes thousands of real, hand-verified rockhounding locations across the US, and they're visible on the map from first launch. A blank map means the map data failed to load on your device, which usually comes down to a network issue the first time the app opens. Force-close the app and reopen it on wifi, or delete and reinstall, and the locations will appear. If it still shows nothing after that, email us at support@rockhoundr.com with your iPhone model and iOS version and we'll get it working.

### 1/5 — Piper

*2026-06-28*

The product froze. Doesn’t work at all.

**Developer response:** Sorry about that, freezing is not normal and we want to fix it. Could you email support@rockhoundr.com with your iPhone model, iOS version, and what you were doing when it froze (opening the map, tapping a spot, etc.)? In the meantime, updating to the latest version and restarting the app resolves this for most people.

### 5/5 — Way better than competition

*2026-06-27*

Love the informative details and lat long to specific locations to search for rocks etc

### 1/5 — Doesn't even work anymore

*2026-06-23*

This is no longer functional. Won't work on iPhone.

**Developer response:** Sorry you hit this. We released an update recently that fixes a startup issue some iPhone users were seeing, so please update to the latest version from the App Store, or delete and reinstall if the problem continues. If it still will not open after that, email support@rockhoundr.com and we will get you sorted.

### 5/5 — Finally app that gets it

*2026-05-16*

Been rockhounding for about 6 years now, mostly in Arizona and New Mexico. Tried a bunch of apps before this one. This app just works, clean, fast, no weird stuff.
