### 5/5 — Like Balatro and Scrabble had a baby

*2026-08-08, version 2.0.19*

Very sick. Also very tight

### 4/5 — Great but a few things

*2026-08-07, version 2.0.19*

Great game overall. Love word games and this is a top play for me. Few things that would make the UX nicer:

- tile upgrade, have a button that selects all. I currently have to manually press each letter to select all. I also accidentally press “pick none” right away when it goes to the next screen. Quite frustrating.

- have a pre-score indicator so I know how many score each word I put up before I “play” it. I end up spending way too much time calculating in my head or hoping for the best.

There’s a few more but this what I can think of that’s pressing.

### 5/5 — Take my money

*2026-08-05, version 2.0.19*

Analysis paralysis at its best. Rogue Words easily shares the stage with Slay the Spire and Baletro.

The interface is superb with several quality of life features. There are plenty of strategies to keep runs fresh and dynamic.

UX notes: The book menu should open to word search; boons and potions only take priority in the shop or title screen. “Contains” only filters the exact text order (CAT shows CATS, but not ACTS). An actual dictionary would be rad to translate the desperate guess words.

Returning to the title: give us a way to give you money. Color themes and fonts would be awesome. Ad skips would be a nightmare.

### 5/5 — We Don't Deserve This

*2026-08-02, version 2.0.19*

A chill mobile game that has NO ads, has a beautifully designed UI, and doesn't bother you with 10 varieties of overstimulating popups every time you open it? Never heard of it... until now. I want to donate to the devs.

### 5/5 — Best relaxing game ever

*2026-08-01, version 2.0.19*

I love Rogue Words. It’s relaxing but not boring. Every time I don’t have anything to do, I play it. I like that it can help you learn and revise many words. I also like that it doesn’t have any ads to bother me. In short: LOVE IT!

### 5/5 — Great game

*2026-07-31, version 2.0.19*

This game is a ton of fun, kind like wordle mixed with balatro. Great game loving a lot so far.

### 5/5 — Fun and well done

*2026-07-31, version 2.0.19*

Good thought and clever strategy

### 3/5 — Was fun for a few rounds

*2026-07-31, version 2.0.19*

Once I was able to beat the 10 rounds and unlocked most of the powerups, the game got boring and felt very much of the same. The fun only lasted about 2-3 hours.

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2026-07-31, version 2.0.19*

Great game

### 5/5 — Amazing fun game

*2026-07-28, version 2.0.19*

Really fun, doesn’t kill battery life, no ads, no purchases or micro transactions. Great design and sound effects. Love the game.

### 5/5 — Having a great time

*2026-07-27, version 2.0.19*

The game is great fun with no interruptions, at time of writing. I even looked for a way to give them money and found nothing. Gameplay is accurately described in the listing.

### 5/5 — Wow

*2026-07-27, version 2.0.19*

Wonderful

### 5/5 — Superb!

*2026-07-26, version 2.0.19*

Free. No ads. Works offline. Doesn’t collect data. Challenging and fun. 10/10

### 5/5 — Great game

*2026-07-26, version 2.0.19*

Great layout. Simple to play yet challenging. No ads

### 5/5 — so much fun!

*2026-07-24, version 2.0.19*

I love word games and this one has increased my screen time significantly. I love the boons and challenges. Great game!

### 5/5 — Really good

*2026-07-24, version 2.0.19*

Kind of like balatro but with scrabble

### 5/5 — Scrabble Balatro

*2026-07-24, version 2.0.19*

Fun to play daily with the daily challenges, though they’re repetitive. Wish there were more, and that the seeds changed per play (easy to hack the first few rounds). Thanks to a few specific boons, you can easily break the game if you find them. Scores scale up in a challenging way early on, but if you “break” it, the game can’t catch up to you and you concede out of boredom. I’m regularly the top seed daily, and wish it were more challenging. I look forward to it daily (having mastered all the regular challenges), but it’s getting old with the daily concede move once it’s obvious I’m just churning points.

### 5/5 — Slay the Scrabble

*2026-07-23, version 2.0.19*

Very fun and free with no ads

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Popups

*2026-07-22, version 2.0.19*

Harasses you in-game for a review, with no option to never see it ask again.

### 1/5 — Dumb

*2026-07-08, version 2.0.19*

Always gives you U’s and V’s and I’s. Annoying. Also, the Game Center integration integration doesn’t work.

### 1/5 — Dumb

*2026-06-30, version 2.0.19*

If you delete this game after your scores get inverted and then reinstall it, your progress will reset because the Game Center integration doesn’t work.

### 1/5 — Fun but game cheats and is rigged!

*2026-05-06*

I honestly don’t understand why developers do this on a free game with no ads! This game is sort of a Scrabble type of game, and it IS well made!
Here’s the biggest problem and why I’ll be deleting this game:

During gameplay, when you swap out your tiles for new ones, you will nearly ALWAYS get multiples of the same tiles! It doesn’t matter how many times you swap your tiles, the new ones will always either be the same tiles, or completely useless tiles! For instance you’ll get almost all vowels or all consonants, or 4 copies of the same letter you wanted to swap… HORRIBLE!

At first, I thought I was just unlucky, but this happens EVERY TIME, game after game! No one is that unlucky!
In summary, this game has so much potential! But clearly, this game is meant to be rigged against the player each time, and that absolutely KILLS the experience!
This developer has had plenty of time to update this game and make it more randomized and fair… but with each update, the game becomes worse, just more and more rigged!
Why?? There are no ads, no incentives to cheat the gameplay… I just don’t get it! The developer has obviously done this on purpose, which makes it so much worse!
I’m deleting this game after a whole year because I’m sick of the cheating and game rigging! To Brian the developer, shame on you for ruining a fun game just so you can frustrate players by cheating!

### 1/5 — Just requires luck

*2026-03-31, version 2.0.17*

Zero skill required, just luck. Get the three boons: lucky duck, gambler and speculator and you win. Otherwise you grind and suffer wasting time.

### 1/5 — Demonic symbols

*2026-01-31, version 2.0.9*

While this game is fun in regards to vocab increase, the mere placement of a pentagram, use of potions noting witchcraft, as well as fortune telling and other demonic symbols and “powers” …. This is not necessary to have a word game. Your intent to make people numb to demonic presence is wasted here. Jesus Christ is Lord, and you had no true reason to add these aspects except to further an agenda to slither in aspects of Satan in a game people wouldn’t think twice about seeing it. “It’s just a game”…well, my soul is what determines my eternal destiny and I will not allow this to help Satan and Evil to enter my daily routine. For those that think it’s “no biggie”, rethink your situation and what you let in to you day.

### 1/5 — Wrong words

*2025-10-08, version 1.8.8*

“Asia” & “Oceania” are both very real words that this game doesn’t acknowledge. Was fun until two words in a row were rejected.

### 1/5 — Crash on Launch

*2025-04-01*

Desperate to try this game but it crashes the moment I launch it with just a flash of a white screen. Hope to get to play it soon if it’s fixed.

### 2/5 — It’s fun.

*2026-08-11, version 2.0.19*

It’s fun. But every few minutes the app freezes and I have to close it out and go back into the game.

### 2/5 — Word for you

*2026-05-22, version 2.0.19*

Here’s a word for you, convoluted! Nice game good style but it’s so busy with power ups that it becomes annoying to play. Trying to hard to be different

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — New Addiction

*2026-08-20, version 2.0.19*

This game is great. Addicting without being debilitating and it’s amazing there are no ads.

### 5/5 — It’s fun

*2026-08-18, version 2.0.19*

Fun word game. I appreciate that the dev does not collect player data.

### 5/5 — Addicting

*2026-08-17, version 2.0.19*

Super fun

### 5/5 — So addictive

*2026-08-15, version 2.0.19*

This game is wonderful. It fills my need for a decent scrabble like game, and turns it on its head
It's fun and changes every day

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2026-08-14, version 2.0.19*

This game is for the english nerds who never have friends to play scrabble with. Rogue likes are insanely popular today, and as someone who doesn’t typically enjoy those types of games, this has gotten my attention. Within 24 hours I’ve already begged my english nerd family to play it. No ads. No forced team play. No paywalls. This is just a good game.

### 5/5 — Pretty Fun

*2026-08-12, version 2.0.19*

I’ve spent many hours in this game and it is a nice brain exercise. I am also a big roguelike fan (started on OG Isaac with Flash) and the elements in this are well incorporated. Legend difficulty is exactly that: difficult. But it should be. Good job, devs. Really cool game.

### 5/5 — I’d pay for this game

*2026-08-11, version 2.0.19*

as a big fan of puzzle games and roguelikes in general, I genuinely cant believe this game is free. scrabble with a balatro joker like system is a simple but fun premise. there could be some improvements and tweaks but for a free game, this eats a lot of my time and isnt boring phone game slop. 5 stars, i recommend it to friends

### 5/5 — Sticking with a game is rare

*2026-08-11, version 2.0.19*

This is a near-perfect game. Love word games but many get old fast or reply on turn-taking. This game is dynamic, challenging, and perfect to play in short burst or a longer sitting. It also is clearly written by creative people with a smart sense of humor. The boons, potions, and challenges add a great twist. The daily challenge format is genius and keeps me coming back (though not in a way that feels forced or coercive like a ‘streak’). On that note, I’m thrilled to find and support devs doing exceptional work without monetizing gameplay or opting for extractive subscription models. There’s a lot about not just the game itself but also the decisions of the creators that make it really fun, unique, and refreshing.

### 5/5 — Peak

*2026-08-10, version 2.0.19*

I love rogue like games and this feels good for the brain!!

### 5/5 — Challenging

*2026-08-10, version 2.0.19*

I love this game. It’s challenging and easy.
