Few things that would make the UX nicer: - tile upgrade, have a button that selects all. I currently have to manually press each letter to select all. I also accidentally press “pick none” right away when it goes to the next screen. Quite frustrating. - have a pre-score indicator so I know how many score each word I put up before I “play” it. I end up spending way too much time calculating in my head or hoping for the best. Rogue Words easily shares the stage with Slay the Spire and Baletro. The interface is superb with several quality of life features. There are plenty of strategies to keep runs fresh and dynamic. — UX notes: The book menu should open to word search; boons and potions only take priority in the shop or title screen. “Contains” only filters the exact text order (CAT shows CATS, but not ACTS). An actual dictionary would be rad to translate the desperate guess words. Returning to the title: give us a way to give you money. Color themes and fonts would be awesome. Wish there were more, and that the seeds changed per play (easy to hack the first few rounds). Thanks to a few specific boons, you can easily break the game if you find them. Scores scale up in a challenging way early on, but if you “break” it, the game can’t catch up to you and you concede out of boredom. I’m regularly the top seed daily, and wish it were more challenging. This game is sort of a Scrabble type of game, and it IS well made! Here’s the biggest problem and why I’ll be deleting this game: During gameplay, when you swap out your tiles for new ones, you will nearly ALWAYS get multiples of the same tiles! It doesn’t matter how many times you swap your tiles, the new ones will always either be the same tiles, or completely useless tiles! For instance you’ll get almost all vowels or all consonants, or 4 copies of the same letter you wanted to swap… HORRIBLE! At first, I thought I was just unlucky, but this happens EVERY TIME, game after game! No one is that unlucky! In summary, this game has so much potential! But clearly, this game is meant to be rigged against the player each time, and that absolutely KILLS the experience! This developer has had plenty of time to update this game and make it more randomized and fair… but with each update, the game becomes worse, just more and more rigged! Why?? There are no ads, no incentives to cheat the gameplay… I just don’t get it! The developer has obviously done this on purpose, which makes it so much worse! I’m deleting this game after a whole year because I’m sick of the cheating and game rigging! To Brian the developer, shame on you for ruining a fun game just so you can frustrate players by cheating! ### 1/5 — Just requires luck *2026-03-31, version 2.0.17* Zero skill required, just luck. Get the three boons: lucky duck, gambler and speculator and you win. Otherwise you grind and suffer wasting time. ### 1/5 — Demonic symbols *2026-01-31, version 2.0.9* While this game is fun in regards to vocab increase, the mere placement of a pentagram, use of potions noting witchcraft, as well as fortune telling and other demonic symbols and “powers” …. This is not necessary to have a word game. Your intent to make people numb to demonic presence is wasted here. Jesus Christ is Lord, and you had no true reason to add these aspects except to further an agenda to slither in aspects of Satan in a game people wouldn’t think twice about seeing it. “It’s just a game”…well, my soul is what determines my eternal destiny and I will not allow this to help Satan and Evil to enter my daily routine. Love word games but many get old fast or reply on turn-taking. This game is dynamic, challenging, and perfect to play in short burst or a longer sitting. It also is clearly written by creative people with a smart sense of humor. The boons, potions, and challenges add a great twist. The daily challenge format is genius and keeps me coming back (though not in a way that feels forced or coercive like a ‘streak’). On that note, I’m thrilled to find and support devs doing exceptional work without monetizing gameplay or opting for extractive subscription models.
