Characters are fun to play, the music is top notch, and I’ve even tried out other SaGa games thanks to this game. Square Enix, the producer of this game, and Akatsuki hit a gold mine with this; please keep up the good work! Currently about 152 days playing party CP is 56,728. I really do enjoy playing this game. Everything just kinda feels unique about it. I started played games like 7 deadly sins grandcross it’s kinda similar but I started playing that one more because it has a PvP system and ranking system and it would matchmake based off your ranking and whoever CP or Combat Class is higher goes first. I think this game would be the only mobile game I would play if it had PvP. This game is still a work of art. ### 5/5 — The wait is over!!! *2021-12-02, version 1.19.0* I recently got into romancing saga 3 and saga frontier 2 a year ago. Then by pure chance I stumbled across a video of the Japanese version of this mobile game! I have to say it’s been a long wait for the global release, but it’s definitely worth it. The game is simple and very reminiscent of the original SaGa games. If you’re new, don’t worry, the controls, mechanics and gameplay are extremely simple Secondly, the game is very generous to players in general. Whilst like every gacha game there are payment options, this particular one relies heavily on strategy, so it is very Free to play friendly. In fact, it is the main reason why I played the Japanese version ( regardless of my lack of Japanese linguo). All in all it’s a great game and I recommend to anyone willing to give it a shot. ### 5/5 — Best game *2021-11-25* Amazing, rate 5 stars ### 4/5 — More interaction between characters would be great *2021-11-08, version 1.17.21* I’ve always been playing and replaying Romancing Saga 3, so this is the perfect homage to the game. Because of this game, I’m tempted to buy the remake for mobile too. If only there are even more interactions between characters within the game, like Cordelia wanting to find Wil (and actually did so), what happens next? Since we know what happens to Cordy, giving her more dialogues outside game story with Wil is what she deserves! Additionally, being able to choose what music plays while in Vanguard (Home Screen) would be great, especially after the Romancing saga 2 event where the music theme changed. I’ve always been very fond of Saga Frontier and I love being able to collect all my favorite characters and play a new story with them. This game is also very F2P friendly!!! Great game and can’t wait to see how far it goes. ### 5/5 — A honest players review. *2021-03-19, version 1.15.20* Honestly one of the best games mobile games I have played. I usually play them a delete them once, they get pay to win but with this game you don’t need to that. You can all the characters for free, yea free. You can active 1-2 days a week and still get everything done. Events are weekly and you have more than enough time to finish them all even investing minutes a day. Story is updated every 2-3 weeks and events are weekly. A big thank you to everyone who did any work on this game. Plus this the first game I ever reviewed after playing. It has so many characters, and so many ways to upgrade them, and level them up. You can never really get bored with the same old characters, that’s for sure. Love playing and will keep playing so I can become stronger! This one is a keeper. I’m 150 days in, and I’m always looking forward to new styles. Sure, we get bombarded with tons of new events, but we’re catching up to japan server. There will be future co op one day where we will conquer regions (some sort of pvp). My recommendation is, play through main story, push for chapters you can do on full auto, unlock the highest expedition you can, and have fun! The sound effects for the skills are the icing on the cake. I’m rank (217), 38,400+ CP and every new style that comes out doesn’t make me think that I need any new styles. The new styles aren’t too strong for content, and they’re not useless either! Compared to most gacha games, this game allows for units to be more versatile and viable to battle with! I’m not much of a spender, but I’ll gladly show my support for in game purchases! Many thanks to the dev team, Square Enix, and Akatsuki for such a finely tuned, creative and original game! ### 5/5 — Different From Other Gachas *2020-11-03, version 1.11.21* I picked this up as a longtime SaGa series fan, and I have not been disappointed. The artwork, music, and gameplay are all throwbacks to the classic SaGa games. 16-bit fans will feel right at home. Gameplay can be challenging, but with enough time, strategy, and effort you can get everything out of the game. I give special credit to the developers for designing the game in a way that allows for F2P players to remain competitive, while definitely making it rewarding to make the occasional purchase if you decide to go that route. My only complaints would be the breakneck pace of new content and the need for constant grinding that comes with it. I understand that this is to get the global release caught up to Japan, but I could still use a breather from time to time. At least I can keep it going in the background while working from home! Lastly, I just want to note that it has been clear since launch that the developers care about the game’s fans. The global bonuses, Twitch stream giveaways, and overall effort put into it show that they value their players and the care of the SaGa series. I will keep supporting the game with the occasional jewel purchase as long as they keep delivering new content. ### 5/5 — Call to classic RPG fans *2020-10-13* This is an ode to classic and story driven RPG games of the past Make no mistake the development and gameplay takes cues from modern day games and mechanics such as the summoning system but the from the graphics to story and character development, this is a game for everyone from classic JRPG fans to modern day new ones. ### 4/5 — Problem and suggestion *2020-09-19, version 1.11.11* You guys need to find a way to improve the daily logins. Before I can even get into the game I have to tap ok on 5 login screens, its very annoying. Also since you need to repeat some stages to get gear and characters, it would be nice if you add and auto replay feature so we don’t have to pressing battle start over and over. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Doesn’t download *2024-07-07* I haven’t even able to even download it says I have no memory left on phone but I have more than enough 🤷🏻‍♂️ ### 1/5 — Tencent 1.0 *2023-03-24* Rigged banners you have to pity pull every time for 1 ss style it the same every time you always get 9 a styles 1 s style ticket banners are a scam always get a styles hundreds of ss styles in there but they never show up square enix is a million times worse than tencent completely greedy. ### 1/5 — Basic gacha problems from years past, abound in this game. *2021-08-17, version 1.17.10* Missing tons of quality of life that would make the game somewhat bearable(on phone and tablet, as on a pc via an emulator the problems are mostly solved). Needs at least a times 2 speed option, or skip tickets. Needs the ability to completely disable the use of any chosen skill. Needs an auto repeat for how grindy this game is. Rates for SS NEED to be higher, as you need to summon that unit more than 10 times to come close to maxing then out(and you can pull off banner units on the off chance you even get an SS). Need a full collect/dispatch for expeditions. Training should last like 12-14 hours, not 8 and a half. The BP system is stupid as heck, especially when the ai suffers no such restrictions. Enemies can spam full team hitting abilities, or powerful single target abilities(that would cost the player12+ np each time). The auto ai is terrible(does ok at healing, but that’s about it. TL;DR—This game takes the worst parts of an RPG, and the most base parts of a gacha from like 6 years ago, and expects it to be fun…this is from a one Year player btw. would give it 0 stars but 1 is the lowest as far as I’m aware. And all the 5 star reviews are from the games first 2-3 weeks. Pretty sure this game is dead(no chat or player to player activity), as all they do is push out new banners every few days, with the odd event here and there. ### 1/5 — Worst game ever *2020-12-31* I hate this game so much ive gave up on it you spend all your time leveling up your choice of characters only to get stuck on say the stupidness of spiral corridor level 30 and it turns out your characters got no chance of beating it because 1. You have to be a high level and to do that you have to be lucky to even pull your character just to get fragments to level up but even then you only get 40 and you need 100 once you hit 45 and 2. It just takes too long to level a character ive got better things to waste my time on than griding this rubbish game for hours and i hate those pale nymths on sprial corridor are too op its a joke ### 1/5 — Bug crashes *2020-09-01, version 1.11.10* I’m temporarily putting one star because I have not been able to open the game for more than a week now due to a blank white load screen. I think I’ve missed a lot of limited time events and chances to gather material and resources. The team said they’re working on a fix but I haven’t heard of anything from the team in more than a week and I don’t even know if they’re still working on it. I think this game is awesome but it’s just sad when I try loading it up every morning to get the same error, over and over. ### 1/5 — Ignore 5 star reviews *2020-07-06, version 1.11.7* This game becomes exponentially grindy after only two days of play. Then there’s nothing to do because you won’t be strong enough to progress. I’ve already exhausted all my resources, leveling up more actually helps less and less based on how they designed the game, and I can’t get good gear without progressing the story. So I’m stuck. Don’t waste your time with this one guys. It’s basically another “gacha” game with very clear pay walls. It’s not even a GOOD gacha game. The A rank and S rank hero’s are useless. Even the best SS rank hero’s (which is what my whole team is compromised of) isn’t strong enough to do anything. I have 20,000 free diamonds sitting around because what am I gonna do? Summon more SS hero’s? Pointless. That won’t improve my team. It would only fractionally get better for an insane amount of extra grinding and leveling. Probly will uninstall soon ### 1/5 — Say NO to grind *2020-07-01, version 1.11.6* Press Autocombat, comeback after few minutes. Repeat Ad nauseum. Does this scenario sound all too familiar to you? Is this your idea of having fun? Do you ENJOY doing this for every game? The solution is simple. Let players instantly clear old stages instead of forcing them to sit thru boring combat phases. This problem is not new to this game, but it’s time for players to stand up against this policy of forced grinding. The industry needs to evolve. If a company doesn’t value a player’s time, players should stop supporting companies that still enable forced grinding. ### 1/5 — Pay to win over priced *2020-06-26, version 1.11.5* Maintenance is way to long for a 2d game. I may race my stars depending on prices for draws and if they to high for a 2d game then it stays a one star and I’ll tell my friends to come and also give one star since they hate crappy high paid gacha that are 2d and they charge 5 or more dollars per draw when this game could take like a month to make. Ok, did a look into the game. Everything is over priced for a 2d game. Why charge prices for the most popular gacha like seven deadly since when you games lacks a lot. Like 3D character games, lack of good story and much more. ### 1/5 — Already a paid to play. *2020-06-26, version 1.11.5* Games like Opera Omnia DONT restrict you with stamina caps. This game already restricts you and if you want to draw, you HAVE TO PAY MONEY. I’ve spent a lot of money on DFFOO because I love it. This is a game I see being deleted from my phone in two weeks. It’s insanity to think that DFFOO has over a million players yet doesn’t shove money requests in your face. I wish other mobile games would catch up already. Our phones are mini-computers so gain some life long users rather than asking me for 5 dollars every day. SMH ### 1/5 — Energy system *2020-06-25* Another let down on the App Store. Limited by energy, weak story. And not much of else to do. Normally these types of games have the “tower feature” as a bonus or way to get extra Mats. There’s no forced way of playing to succeed here it’s awesome. They listen to the community too which is something, quality of life updates and longevity notably. Its old school so only those from my generation would appreciate it probably. ### 5/5 — The best just got better *2023-11-04* By far the best HC Pixel JRPG “CCG” (should of been a “TCG” like Fantasica, RoB, AoI, GBF & the likes, but they are not popular with devs cos of trade issues & pot cloning hackers)! Apart from the above, yes; it’s awesome. Constant event updates (weekly, monthly, seasonally) & new gameplay additions still to come. Great art, old skool pixel graphics & traditional turn based, manual/auto combat. Retro sounds complete the package along with one the most in depth character & weapon levelling systems. As far as IAPs go; it’s a gacha, so yes you could spend thousands if desired but unlike the way most of these types of games are set up, this can be free played if you don’t mind HC TCG style grinding. It’s so F2P friendly, they basically hand you shards to max level ur favorite units or put them in training to slow grind for them. Such a fun game. The only real time sink is how much time you want to put into it to build up your team. You gain stats as you battle so allot of battles are needed to take a unit to their best form. But again, up to you how much time to play. With auto battle it is so simple now to start a repeat battle and let it sit while u work or do other things. Can’t recommend this game enough, it’s an enjoyable game you can spend hours or even just a few minutes in. ### 5/5 — Just like the games description says…legendary *2023-01-24, version 2.4.1* This game is a revolutionary gem in the next cutting edge phase of rpg. Not only did the creators long ago back in the 90’s experiment on the frontier of rpg. 2023 and they’re still doing it! Impressive. This is game has many elements to review. You even had a challenge mode where you had to use bad characters to pass stuff.
