### 1/5 — Uninstalled and reinstalled several times, but original configuration is not brought over

*2026-06-25*

I get an empty home screen that’s completely useless. I don’t see the macros from I the original Roomie Remote. It says I’m supposed to unsubscribe from my perpetual license, but I would rather see settings come over first before I do so. So far I’m still using the old one and I don’t understand what I’m supposed to be doing here. Preview images look great in the App Store, but it doesn’t look remotely like that. Just empty screens.

**Developer response:** On first install, the configuration from Roomie 9 is automatically migrated. However, in case of any issues, you can always re-migrate at any time by restoring a Roomie 9 backup into Roomie X. Please do not hesitate to contact support using the button in the app if you have questions like this.

### 2/5 — Want to use it

*2026-06-02*

1 star would be unfair because I haven’t been able to use it. But that’s the issue, it says 1 Smart TV can be set up for free, right? Not sure what constitutes as a Smart TV on the app, but I tried my Samsung TV which directed me to purchasing a subscription. Wasn’t sure what to make of that so I then tried Android TV for my Google Streamer and was hit with the same notification, so I’m not really sure how to proceed.

**Developer response:** This issue is resolved in today's release! Our apologies for the brief issue with that new feature.

### 1/5 — Not honoring perpetual subs

*2026-05-09*

I bought the original roomie remote with a perpetual subscription and here they go and release a new version and poof! No longer honored. Super scummy.

**Developer response:** This is a different app. The app you're referring to remains available to you in your App Store purchase history.

### 1/5 — Lifetime licence promise broken

*2026-04-29, version 10.2.0*

I bought a lifetime license, and suddenly I am asked to pay for a new license for this version X, which doesn’t even offer the option of paying for a new “lifetime” license, adding insult to injury. Poor commercial practice.

### 1/5 — No support half baked

*2026-02-19*

Long time user of the product. But version 10 is complete trash. No support, not even an email, just a half baked support page. Says it support all sorts of stuff but good luck getting it to work. Example smart things connects but tells you to hit button to get code…..but no button. This is the random weirdness in the new version.

**Developer response:** Please contact support to resolve your SmartThings concern. We have many users working well with SmartThings now and it should be very straightforward to help you get that work.

### 1/5 — Annoying update

*2026-02-16*

I had the prior version of Roomie. It recommended upgrading to Roomie X and said everything would be transferred. It failed to transfer all activities so the upgraded remote failed to work. In addition, Roomie x would not let me edit the configuration. In addition, it appears that the new Roomie requires an always on primary controller. That’s a non starter for me. The old Roomie app still works but it continues to tell me to install the new version. Overall very annoying upgrade.

Update - . I have a simple configuration with a Roku, receiver, projector and screen. After trying it again, it’s still broken. It fails to import the stewart screen device. Worse still, while my phone is the primary controller, it’s in read only mode and I can’t change it to allow editing. Fortunately, the old Roomie Remote still works but it continues to tell me to upgrade to Roomie X every time it’s opened.

**Developer response:** This was resolved in 10.0.1.

### 1/5 — Configuration Issues

*2026-01-21*

Been using Roomie Remote for years. None of my devices or settings came across correctly with new RR X.

**Developer response:** Please contact support to resolve your concern. There many ways to migrate from RR9, this will be simple to help you resolve.

### 1/5 — Great app but…

*2026-01-16*

Great app but I purchased the lifetime subscription back on the old version when it was new. Now they come out with this new version as a new app, can’t bring over my lifetime subscription or any of the data. They no longer offer the lifetime subscription so this is their way of getting more money out of those who supported them early on. So my one start is for the developer.

### 1/5 — Poor Support

*2026-01-04, version 10.0.4*

The app is generally good although various changes from v9 have caused issues on this version. However the main problem remains - the developers utter disdain for his users/customers. Instead of helping you're made to feel inadequate/stupid. Thankfully the forum has moved to Reddit but his attitude is the same as before. It's hard to know if he simply enjoys belittling people or simply has no idea how to communicate effectively. For the support alone I'd recommend staying clear unless you're happy not needing any support.

### 1/5 — Lifetime subscription

*2025-12-30*

NOT SO MUCH! Charge excessive amount for lifetime subscription and whenever you want pretend the new version is a new app so that you can extort more money! Seriously F OFF!

**Developer response:** This is a different app. The app you're referring to remains available to you in your App Store purchase history.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 10.5.0 — 2026-09-01

CONTROL YOUR HOME FROM CLAUDE

Roomie can now be a local MCP server on your network — connect Claude or any MCP client and ask to start activities, adjust volume, control lights and thermostats, or check what's playing. Claude can even verify commands landed by reading recent actions and device health. Enable with an access key you create in Settings → MCP Access.

PROJECTOR AUTHENTICATION & VALERION

JVC and Epson projectors now accept the network password you set on the projector, using each projector's own secure handshake — existing projectors migrate automatically. New: Valerion VisionMaster support over AWOL Link, covering power, inputs, volume, and the lens and picture menus including picture modes, laser level, and tone mapping. The device panel also shows the signal Barco and Valerion projectors are receiving: resolution, aspect ratio, bit depth, HDR, and color space.

HISTORY

Every action in your home is recorded with its origin — a tap, the Watch, Alexa, an automation — alongside security, settings, and configuration trails, a searchable network timeline, and an automations view showing recent, missed, and upcoming runs.

LG TV PAIRING RESTORED

Recent LG firmware broke pairing for third-party remotes. Roomie re-registers and recovers affected TVs automatically.

GOOGLE TV & GOOGLE CAST

Google TV gains volume and mute feedback, absolute volume, and discrete power on and off, and Google Cast devices report Now Playing with artwork, transport and seek control, live progress, and receiver volume.

DEVICE SUPPORT

StormAudio ISP and Trinnov processors with live volume and named inputs and presets. Receivers report what's actually playing — stream type, channel format, sample rate, upmixer. Honeywell Home (Resideo) replaces the retired Total Connect Comfort service. Samsung TV app launching returns via SmartThings. Sonos gains a group picker in Now Playing.

WEATHER & AIR QUALITY

A WeatherFlow Tempest station on your network feeds live wind and rainfall, and air quality is more accurate with EPA humidity correction and smart PurpleAir source selection — combining Tempest, PurpleAir, and Apple Weather into a master view of local weather.

RELIABILITY

Dozens of fixes: Nest setpoints no longer revert, automations honor delays and Stop modes, Alexa can turn off any activity again, and camera windows keep their streams and placement.

ALSO INCLUDED FROM 10.4

• Apple Watch app — rebuilt from the ground up, with voice control.
• Proximity Switching with Roomie Beacons.
• Home Assistant cameras and thermostats.
• Smarter Remote Access and modernized camera discovery.
• Add a Smart TV for Free — one network TV, no subscription.

### 10.4.0 — 2026-07-02

APPLE WATCH APP

Roomie returns to Apple Watch — a next-generation app rebuilt from the ground up. Start and switch activities, control transport, and adjust volume with the Digital Crown, right from your wrist. Hands-free voice control is built in, including conversational xAI Voice, relaying through your nearby iPhone. Add a complication to launch straight into the room that's playing.

PROXIMITY SWITCHING

Roomie can switch a controller's active Room automatically from Bluetooth beacon proximity. Use the new Roomie Beacon devices, Roomie IR products that now advertise as beacons, or third-party iBeacons — assign one to each Room, and Roomie activates whichever Room's beacon is nearest. It even works in the background, so the right room is set before you open the app. Enabled per controller with a detection-sensitivity preset.

HOME ASSISTANT CAMERAS & THERMOSTATS

Home Assistant cameras are now auto-discovered with snapshots and live HLS streaming, each mapped to the matching Roomie room. Climate entities are supported with fan-mode control, alongside the existing lights, switches, covers, fans, locks, and sensors.

FASTER CAMERA DISCOVERY

Finding network cameras is faster and more reliable, with smarter vendor-aware authentication and one-tap add. Discovery can now reach beyond your controller's own network segment to find cameras on other subnets or VLANs.

SMARTER REMOTE ACCESS

Roomie now stays on fast local control whenever your controller can reach the primary directly — even across different Wi-Fi networks at home — instead of switching to Remote Access unnecessarily. You can also add a controller that lives on another subnet or VLAN by entering its address directly.

SAVANT

Control Savant systems through the Savant Open API. Turn on services and issue zone commands — power, mute, volume — for any Savant room, with state-feedback triggers keeping Roomie in sync with what Savant is doing. (Requires Active Savant Essentials subscription)

NEW DEVICE SUPPORT

LEA Professional Connect Series amplifiers with per-room channel mapping and live volume and mute feedback. AVPro MXNet AV-over-IP matrix control (1G and 10G CBOX) with automatic endpoint aliasing and routing. And Nest Thermostat pairing no longer requires re-authenticating every 7 days.

ADD A SMART TV FOR FREE

Pair a single network smart TV — Samsung, LG, Roku, or many more — at no cost and with no subscription. Roomie lists eligible TVs on your network and sets up control and an activity automatically.

ALSO INCLUDED FROM 10.3

• Room Layouts — a customizable mixed-size card grid for every room and the dashboard.
• iCloud Backups — reliable cross-platform backups with automatic mesh sync.
• Redesigned Weather panel with PurpleAir air quality.
• IR Learning rebuilt from the ground up.
• Universal Remote HTTP API for third-party bridges and automation.

### 10.3.1 — 2026-05-15

ROOM LAYOUTS

Every room now uses a customizable mixed-size card grid. Tap Edit to add, remove, resize, or rearrange cards — activity tiles, toggles, weather, clock, cameras, sensors, Lutron keypads, and more. Cameras get a 4:3 landscape default, keypads can be Double or Double Tall, and clock tiles can show moon phase and a sky gradient. Layouts on smaller controllers automatically scale down. Keep multiple layouts per room and assign them to specific controllers or have Roomie switch automatically based on the running activity or other attributes.

DASHBOARD

A new Now Playing tile aggregates active activities across your rooms with transport controls and power-off. Tap any camera tile on the Dashboard to go straight to fullscreen zoom.

iCLOUD BACKUPS

Manual and scheduled backups now use iCloud as a reliable transport that works on every Roomie platform including tvOS. Turn on Automatic Backups on one controller and the rest of your mesh follows along, never overwriting your existing local history. Roomie TV can restore directly from iCloud Backups on tvOS. Smarter rotation tracks daily and monthly snapshots per home.

NEXT GEN WEATHER WITH AIR QUALITY

The HomeBar Weather Panel has been redesigned with a compact header, stacked alert banners with severity tinting, an hourly strip, and richer daily forecast data. PurpleAir Air Quality reads AQI from a local sensor on your network or from nearby public outdoor sensors via the PurpleAir cloud API. Each controller now fetches weather independently for faster, more accurate forecasts everywhere. Clock tiles can also display a moon-phase badge and a live sky gradient driven by local sunrise and sunset.

IR LEARNING RESURRECTED

IR Learning has been rebuilt from the ground up. Global Caché iTach, Simple Blaster, and Roomie Blaster are auto-detected, with carrier override and protocol detection. Learn codes for thermostats, alarms, lights, switches, fans, shades, garage doors, locks, keypads, and sensors — not just TVs and receivers. Code verification adds timing-jitter tolerance, duplicate detection, and a full event history for every learn attempt.

VOICE CONTROL IMPROVEMENTS

Two wake word models — Roomie AI (instant on-device) and Apple Speech (slower but rock-solid). Three voice control modes once the wake word is recognized: Local, Roomie AI natural-language, and xAI Voice for hands-free conversational control. Substantially fewer false positives in noisy rooms.

UNIVERSAL REMOTE HTTP API

A documented, stable HTTP API at /api/v1/ for third-party bridges, automations, and integrations. POST /api/v1/remote/press takes a button name (play, pause, volumeup, activity1, activitypoweroff, etc.) and resolves it against the currently running activity. Supports tap, press/release, repeat, timed-hold, and digit-entry actions. Capabilities and Rooms endpoints let bridges build dynamic UIs.

ALSO INCLUDED FROM 10.2

• Home Assistant — Full local control of lights, switches, covers, fans, locks, garage doors, and sensors. Auto-discovered.
• Jandy iAquaLink — Pool and spa control with real-time status and temperature.
• Next Gen Sync — Persistent connections for faster, guaranteed-delivery controller communication.
• Automatic Primary Controller — Dynamic failover with per-controller priority.
• Redesigned HomeBar Panels and rebuilt Activity, Module, and Automation editors.
