### 1/5 — Setting don’t work

*2022-03-31, version 1.0.74*

I’ve tried changing my settings to only showing people that have a place to rent. But then it shows me everybody looking for a room too. When I first downloaded this app this was not a problem. Somehow and one of the updates it glitched and they’ve never fixed it even though I reported it to them. Not even worth using anymore.

### 1/5 — WORST ALGORITHM EVER!

*2022-03-25, version 1.0.74*

To my fellow roomies,

You guys please, find other better sources to waste your money on, definitely not this one… HEED THIS WARNING!

I’ve been on this for the past 1.5yrs and get messages only after my subscription has expired. Then it floods my inbox, by then the situation has changed. As soon as I resubscribe, the same method ensues, as though to say we just want to keep getting your money and app usage. A few people I spoke with, told me the same thing after I mentioned it to them. All these people looking for roommates and only 2 inboxes and a lot of scams phishing for credit cards and personal info?

This is my last phase of using this app! It’s not worth it. Go elsewhere and please tell me when you find something comparable or better.

Blessings everyone

### 1/5 — Filled with scammers!

*2022-03-23, version 1.0.74*

Everyone I’ve met on here was shady. Be careful.

### 1/5 — Horrible

*2021-12-02, version 1.0.74*

Paid for a $22 month subscription to get bombarded by scammers. Only 2 out of 8 people where legit. Asked for a refund and they gave it to me almost immediately so there is that.

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2021-06-18, version 1.0.9*

There’s 5 ways to verify identity. I’ve done 3/5, the last 2 are Facebook which I don’t have and to verify your ID which cost $2.99. How ridiculous. And then second day I get message by fake account requesting for more verification and I didn’t even match, message or have any similarity to what the person is looking for in a roommate. And now I’m learning you have to pay to even contact potential roommates smh

### 1/5 — Waste of time

*2021-06-04, version 1.0.9*

Stick to the web-browser unless you have the cash.

### 1/5 — A very crappy application

*2021-05-11, version 1.0.9*

Charging just to use the app rather than charging for the add-ons. A very stupid model.

### 1/5 — Worst app

*2021-03-07, version 1.0.9*

Tried to log in several times and reset the password to no avail. Made 3 accounts already and contacted support with no response, I’m starting to think the app is just a scam.

### 1/5 — A TOTAL SCAM - SHOULD BE BANNED

*2021-03-03, version 1.0.9*

Set up to make it impossible for users to communicate with one another effectively unless they have premium membership. This company has a terrible reputation they should be removed from the App Store.

### 1/5 — Bad business model

*2020-12-03, version 1.0.9*

Pay to read bios? Pay to read messages? Pay to see full size image? Pay to use an app? Those seem like pretty standard free features nowadays..

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2020-11-21, version 1.0.8*

Please fix this raggedy app man. Makes me feel like I have an android or something. It’s 2020 and the app is from like 2006. Big thumbs down

### 1/5 — Crashes

*2020-10-06, version 1.0.8*

This app is terrible.

### 1/5 — App keeps crashing. Doesn’t even work

*2020-10-05, version 1.0.8*

Don’t waste your time with this roommate app because it won’t work.

### 1/5 — App crashes on login

*2020-10-01, version 1.0.8*

App crashes on login.

Regarding the subscription. Years ago if one of the two parties chatting had subscribed, you could exchange messages. Now they’re requiring both to subscribe. So not getting any responses. Subscription so far was a waste of money.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Far too much spam. Do not pay for this app.

*2023-02-15, version 1.0.74*

Do not use roommates.com - the controls for scam are so terrible, this site is close to a scam itself.

### 1/5 — messages and vip

*2022-12-13, version 1.0.74*

You guys need to not limit messaging to those who don't and do have vip. Some people can't afford that stuff. Please for gods sake get rid of the vip thing for messaging.

### 1/5 — Terrible!!!

*2022-12-01, version 1.0.74*

There is no point in using this app. You can see recent posts and people that match your search criteria but no one communicates!!! Is that because they aren’t getting the messages? Is it because they haven’t paid for the service? Who knows?? Either way, the devs need to make it so that people that DO pay can know if their messages are even goin through!!! I can grab a rental magazine or use Craigslist if I don’t want responses lol

### 1/5 — Trash

*2022-11-05, version 1.0.74*

Huge scam. The apps a scam.To open messages that are sent to you by people, you have to pay extra, and the messages that you received from scam artist trying to take your money. Don’t waste your time or money

### 1/5 — Garbage app w scammer accts

*2022-10-24, version 1.0.74*

1 star is generous.

### 1/5 — Don’t waste your money or time

*2022-07-31, version 1.0.74*

Well the best way to know if something works is just to try it. Next time I will surely take into account the low rating a website/app has before signing up for anything. These kinds of issues are why I don’t use sites like this. It’s usually the free sites that are bad, so it was expected to have a better experience with your site. Using this site, majority of users are unverified and do not pay for the service and there doesn’t seem to be a way to figure out if someone can actually communicate or not. Just playing a waiting game with no results. If this is a paid site, it’s useless to allow people to remain on the site without access to actual communication. Free accounts remain active and paid members waste their money bc they are trying to talk with someone whom can not. Maybe do a 2 day free trial so people can fully try it and then deactivate the account after a week of non-purchase. No one is going to find a roommate within 48 hours unless they are desperately looking. Giving full access to the site to try and then removing the unpaid accounts would be more effective.

### 1/5 — Unfriendly interface…

*2022-07-31, version 1.0.74*

It’s garbage. Unwieldy and doesn’t allow you to backtrack. It may be useful if you have a room you want to rent out…but not useful at all if you want to rent.

### 1/5 — Too many scammers

*2022-06-23, version 1.0.74*

Terrible experience, not worth a penny plus you get contacted by scammers. No option to opt out from the membership or cancel credit card. Very sad.

### 1/5 — This app is trash

*2022-04-13, version 1.0.74*

Just trash

### 1/5 — Not a good app

*2022-04-08, version 1.0.74*

Do not use this app. One no o one answers you. 2nd you pay and get no response or inquiries. Third, no respond from devoloper to cancel the account or get your money back. I had to file a claim through my credit card to get my money back.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Shamelessness

*2021-07-08, version 1.0.9*

This app is the definition of shameless.

### 5/5 — Great!

*2020-02-06, version 1.0.4*

It’s great to have an app for roommates.com!

### 5/5 — Solid

*2020-02-04, version 1.0.2*

Took way too long to make this app though

### 3/5 — Needs some work

*2020-12-02, version 1.0.9*

I love the service that I get want to use the website version of this. However the app doesn’t show me when new messages come in anymore. I don’t know if that’s just glitch from an incompatibility with iOS 14, as it seems to correspond with that timeframe. I was unable to fix this after a force restart and a removal and re-download of the app.

### 3/5 — Delete unwanted matches

*2020-11-23, version 1.0.8*

Please create a function to be able to delete, archive, or mark matches as uninterested. Some people aren’t a match but then they still show in this long list of people you can message. It gets confusing and hard to manage. I want to be able to see only the people I’m interested in still talking to or getting replies from.

### 3/5 — Love it but extremely pricey

*2020-08-24, version 1.0.8*

I live in a small suburban area and still found my roommates within two days on the app. But you have to $16 a month to contact people. Spotify offers me every song on the planet for almost half the price. I find it a bit unethical to charge so much for a necessity part of life, taking advantage of people who are desperate to find a home.

### 3/5 — I’d rather use desktop

*2020-04-02, version 1.0.7*

I always get some kind of bug/error when I try to filter matches, the app closes itself.

Messaging keyboard sometimes just doesn’t show up??

### 2/5 — Please Fix The Issues!!!!

*2022-02-24, version 1.0.74*

I keep trying to change my preferences to private bed/bath and every-time i hit the update button it says I cant add new locations when I wasnt trying to. Its a mess.

### 2/5 — Waste of money

*2020-08-06, version 1.0.8*

I loved the concept of this app but it turned out to be a huge disappointment and waste of money. I didn’t realize that you could only read messages if you’ve paid for the subscription, so even though I reached out to a bunch of potential “matches” I didn’t get replies (presumably because they haven’t paid to read their messages or because they are scam accounts anyways). The algorithm for identifying matches is also flawed - I kept getting matched with people that were looking for apartments in entirely different cities. As much as I like the idea of this app, the business model is terrible and not worth the money.

### 2/5 — Ridiculous model

*2020-07-30, version 1.0.8*

Sorry, I know people who work on things need to get paid, but charging $20 a month to see messages/replies from potential roommates is a low way to do it. There’s also supposedly a favorites possibility I have yet to find? Had three replies out of multiple messages and I think part of the reason is people don’t realize you have to pay to see messages until after they sign up. My issue wasn’t the bots and scammers— it’s legit the business model of this app and website. A great idea that has the potential to be an amazing alternative to craigslist and instead it’s just a bunch of people floating around in space, not finding what they want or need.
