### 4/5 — Long way to go

*2026-08-05, version 2.71.01678*

A platform built for personal music collection but relies on qobuz/tidal to create mixes. Ok-ish UI experience.. can’t match streaming services.

### 2/5 — Great when it loads

*2026-06-12, version 2.67.01661*

Constantly stuck waiting for roon to “enable” the device. Why does it need to be re-enabled all the time? And why does it take forever sometimes? App still doesn’t feel smooth.

### 2/5 — Glitchy, songs don’t play

*2026-03-31*

I’ve had Roon for 3 years. I used to use both Tidal and Quboz, but now I am only using Quboz. Roon used to work almost without glitches. Each year it has gotten worse as far as reliability is concerned.

Now I often get booted out of the app when clicking on a link for additional information (I.e., when listening to a song and clicking on the album icon to view information about the entire album the Roon app closes.

Most annoying recently is the fact that Roon will not play certain songs within an album, it’ll simply freeze up and not play the song.

You can fast forward to perhaps the next track and it might play. However, when using Quboz (not through Roon) you can listen to the same song without issue.

This is not something you would expect for a service you pay $150 a year for, it responds more like a free app with glitches. The ARC app, which is part of Roon, is even worse.

Unfortunately, I just renewed my $150 annual subscription. If Roon continues to act like this, I will certainly not be renewing next year.

### 2/5 — As a subscriber I am worried

*2026-03-27, version 2.62.1641*

The entire roon system is in a downward spiral. Especially the iOS apps. Tons of bugs that do not get fixed release after release and then of course new bugs are being added regularly. Roon used to be top of the notch. Those days are long gone.

### 2/5 — So Bad

*2026-03-25, version 2.62.1641*

I can't believe how bad this app is! Maybe they could add a way to turn it off! That would be a good place to start!

### 2/5 — Buggy

*2026-02-18, version 2.60.01629*

This review is for the IOS app only. Every time I open it, something unexpected is going your way happen; I.e. the artwork doesn’t display or the device I want to play on doesn’t display. It’s always something that causes me to do one or more of the following to clear things up - close the app and reopen, log out of Roon and back in, delete the app and reinstall it, restart the Roon server. It takes the joy out of the joy of listening to music.

### 2/5 — Buggy. Great when it works but sometimes it doesn’t

*2025-12-06, version 2.56.01576*

It happens often enough that it won’t play music or it loses some of my playlists etc. This is an ongoing problem that still isn’t fixed

### 1/5 — Seems useless

*2025-11-16, version 2.56.01576*

Followed the instructions as far as setting up the network parameters on a the Windows machine acting as the Roon Server per Roon’s directions. App cannot find it despite manually inputting the PC’s IP address in the app. No phone support available from Roon. Roon server software works fine on the PC acting as the server but this inability to control playback from my phone is a big letdown.

### 1/5 — Can’t select audio devices after latest update

*2025-10-25, version 2.54.01554*

Ever since the latest update, my “audio zones” are all gone and I can’t select any of them, nor can I add any new audio zones. I can’t even select “default output” to play music through my iPhone speakers. So the app is basically dead.

### 1/5 — Can’t purchase subscription

*2025-08-30, version 2.54.01554*

For some reason I can’t renew my subscription. No after what I do the payment always declines. It’s not my card, it’s working fine with every other payment system. I tried Apple Pay and putting in the info manually, it doesn’t matter, it always fails. I’ve been using Roon for years and now I can’t use it at all!

### 2/5 — Works but buggy

*2025-08-20, version 2.54.01554*

I use Roon with both remote streaming device and local audio from an ipad or iphone. Local audio devices disappear from the app when not actively playing — force killing and repenting is necessary to get it to work again.

More recently, the app is unreliable with displaying the currently playing album. Opening the app often displays ‘This album was not found’.

### 3/5 — Lots of potential but fussy/buggy

*2025-07-22, version 2.53.01544*

The phone app frequently can’t find audio devices to play the music. One minute it works and the next it doesn’t. And then it stays not working. I bought a screen remote control to control music on my Mac.

Otherwise this is a great concept and a great system for RIPd collection.

### 1/5 — App crash as soon as you search

*2025-04-01, version 2.48.01516*

As soon as I use the search feature, the app crashes, and then when I relaunch the app, it goes back to the search screen immediately, and then just crashes again. I then have to reinstall the app to be able to even use it.

### 2/5 — Very poor

*2025-03-20, version 2.47.01510*

If it works it’s good. But 90 percent of the time I have trouble connecting to the network. Either on the phone, Mac book pro or PC.
It struggles to find the device to connect and find the network.
Not sure it is an issue with my internet.
When trying to contact support it takes you to a page with all sort of possible troubleshooting questions and answers. What basically it tells you is sit and scroll through all and find solution for your issue. I wish I was retired and sitting at home doing nothing other than listen to music.
I regret paying big $ for Roon.
I will not recommend to anyone.
ARC, that’s another joke. Never works.
If someone at Roon can contact me and trouble shoot my issues, I am happy to come and review what I said here.
Otherwise I will not be renewing my subscription when it is due.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Suddenly not supported

*2026-05-27, version 2.67.01661*

Despite always having problems when the app was updated, it would work. But not now. My new(ish) QNAP NAS is causing a problem as the QNAP server is no longer compatible with Roon. Had to get rid of it.

### 1/5 — Roon is great but the iOS app is buggy

*2026-03-26, version 2.62.1641*

Review is the title

### 1/5 — Has not worked since last update

*2026-03-06, version 2.62.1641*

Worked adequately, never great, until most recent update. Now keeps asking me if I am new to Roon and never finds my server. Useless!

### 1/5 — Don’t waste your time and money on this garbage

*2026-03-05, version 2.62.1641*

Don’t repeat my mistake. I have spent thousands of dollars on software and hardware, and hundreds of hours on network configurations, trying to get Roon to work. I’m not a newbie. I manage the network of an office of 100 employees. I’m no expert, but I consider my technological literacy and skills way above an average Internet user. And I can’t even get Roon to work half of the time. Think thrice before you step into this hell of frustrations!

### 1/5 — Glitches

*2026-03-01, version 2.60.01629*

How is it possible for a premium product for audiophile users to be so glitchy? Constantly dropping out, I have tried for so long and used every troubleshooting page I can find, so unbelievably frustrating.

### 1/5 — Iphone app

*2026-02-28, version 2.60.01629*

The iphone app is in bad shape

### 1/5 — V 2.6 build 1629 make all terminals enabling audio failed, so completely crashed

*2026-02-14, version 2.60.01629*

Please update it

### 1/5 — Used to work fine….

*2026-01-30, version 2.58.01606*

Does not work, all I get is “You are already sign-in” and can not access my account, very frustrating.

### 1/5 — No support

*2025-12-06, version 2.56.01576*

There is no way to contact technical support, just a link to a community support page. Submitting a ticket just creates a thread on this page. After a day of trying to get the product to work, I quit and cancelled the trial.

### 1/5 — Gimmick

*2025-12-06, version 2.56.01576*

Let’s face it, Roon is a gimmick aimed at anyone with nothing better to do and adds little value. Aimed at “music lovers”…NO…at recording lovers.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — If You Know, You Know

*2026-08-05, version 2.71.01678*

If you’re a serious music listener willing to make an investment with a proper system, Roon is your only option. It’s not intended for casual users. There’s a learning curve that when understood, it enables you to travel down deep rabbit holes of music exploration. Highly recommended.

### 5/5 — simply the best

*2026-05-29, version 2.67.01661*

This is the best for music catalog storage and multi player platform. Have tried many others including Audirvana but despite the odd software glitch experienced by others (not myself) I’ve always found this to be excellent. Fast responsive even Roon arc, never any issues. Would highly recommend an improvement over native naim and qobuz apps and certainly better than tidal or apple, which isn’t difficult.

### 5/5 — Finally Good

*2026-05-01, version 2.65.01653*

Recently the manager to push AN update that really works! There is nothing out there as of software what lives up to Roon. A real audiphile experience!

### 5/5 — Excellent product gets better

*2026-01-23, version 2.57.01598*

I wanted to say that Roon Labs not only has a top tier product technically, but same 5* customer service

### 5/5 — Best hifi at home app

*2025-05-24, version 2.51.01533*

If you have a great digital front end for your at-home hi-fi, this is the best way to organize and manage your library between the streamers and whatever FLACs you might have in your local storage. This service is so profoundly valuable to me, and so many other hifi nerds.

### 5/5 — Works fine

*2025-04-28, version 2.50.01528*

It works perfect without any issues

### 5/5 — Can be fussy but worth the effort

*2025-02-22, version 2.47.01510*

This app can be fussy to set up but I believe that’s also on the manufacturers. Once it’s set up, though, it works so very well. It organizes my files in a very simple way; it gives me a remote way to access those files; and it allows me to pull from a lot of resources into one place.

### 5/5 — Better than volumio

*2023-05-31, version 2.0.01271*

So much better than volumio. I’m using ropieee and it’s awesome. Faster, cleaner and works better. Do yourself a favour and loose volumio.

### 5/5 — Roon Rocks

*2023-05-02, version 2.0.01259*

Roon simply rocks, brings a physical music approach to the digital streaming world. Works perfectly for me.

### 5/5 — The best way to experience music

*2022-12-26, version 2.0.7 build 1182*

Roon is amazing. It’s elemental to how I experience music. It continues to improve and enhance my appreciation for my favourite artists and fosters intelligent intuitive discovery. Roon Remote works flawlessly on all my devices. It is a joy to use.
