If I could rate less than 1 star, I would. ### 1/5 — Needs rework *2026-07-25, version 356.0.0* I tried signing into to check out my policies and at first it said it would send a link to my email which it never did u redid this process 4-5 times before deleting the app and redownloading. When i go back to sign in, it lets me but than starts searching for quto quotes which i dont want to do and you cant leave to undo the process only way is to close they app and if you do get quotes the only options given is “continue” and you are stuck on this page until you input all your information for another insurance company. Only way to get out is by deleting the app again. And if you try to go online to sign in it redirects you to the app and if you do sign in online it does the exact same thing and starts searching for auto quotes instead of going to your profile. I just want to look at my policies now thankfully they were emailed to me when i joined root but you cant sign in after. ### 1/5 — Must buy policy to do the driving test! *2026-07-23, version 356.0.0* Shopping and price comparison although given lip-service, is prevented by requiring purchase of a Root policy before doing the road test. It would appear there is hope you will cancel your existing insurance and purchase a Root policy before you do your road test thus encouraging you to accept whatever they offer after the test has been completed. The other alternative, of course is to pay for your Present policy as well as a Root policy in order find out what they will charge once they have seen your driving record. This makes me feel that they don’t believe their quote will be desirable if you aren’t locked in because you have canceled your existing coverage. If you could do the road test without buying double insurance, this is an attractive product that I would have liked to try while my existing coverage was in place. ### 1/5 — Do not get this Insurance *2026-07-18, version 356.0.0* I would never recommend Root Insurance to anyone. My experience has been extremely frustrating. My policy has increased multiple times, and now my renewal has jumped from under $300 to over $400 without what I believe is a reasonable explanation. The company claims to base pricing on driving habits, but I drive two different vehicles, and one is used primarily for work. I don't believe their driving data accurately reflects my actual driving, yet they continue using it to justify significant premium increases. To make matters worse, the renewal includes additional policy and legal language without clearly explaining what has changed or why my premium has increased so dramatically. It feels like the rules keep changing while customers are left trying to figure out why they're paying so much more. I expected fair pricing and transparency, but instead I experienced repeated rate increases with little clarity. My experience has left me feeling misled and disappointed. Thanks! ### 1/5 — horrible insurance *2026-06-30, version 354.0.0* I bought root for my first car insurance never having insurance or license yet they added a driving test feature scored fine on it even tho i wasn’t driving it recorded me in different cars after taking 148$ out they canceled my insurance the driving score was at 7/10 i called and said it’s only been a week of having insurance i haven’t got my license yet or the car registered and ive only had insurance for a week could i get a refund they took the 148$ and i didn’t have insurance for even a week let alone even drive yet , horrible experience for a new driver worst insurance on the market ### 2/5 — Location not working *2026-06-26, version 354.0.0* I can’t get the location services to work at all. Switched from Samsung which has never given me issues with managing my settings the way I want, especially with what services I allow it to access, but day 1 that I switch back to Apple after years my insurance is probably going to go up! I can’t for the life of me figure out how to fix it because the app never prompted me to allow location, it was automatically denied and there’s no way for me to add it. Antes de la fecha de renovación solicité que mi póliza no se renovara automáticamente. A pesar de mi solicitud, la póliza fue renovada y posteriormente tuve que cancelarla yo mismo. Lo peor es que me cobraron aproximadamente el 10% de la póliza como cargo por cancelación, aun cuando el problema se originó porque no respetaron mi solicitud de no renovar. No recomendaría esta compañía a quienes buscan un proceso claro y transparente para cancelar o evitar renovaciones automáticas. ### 1/5 — Total Waste of Time for Gig Drivers /Beware the Glitchy Distraction Test *2026-06-04, version 351.0.0* I was really excited to switch to this insurance and was fully prepared to do well on their driving test to get a good rate. Since I drive for Uber, I didn't think much of the "distraction score" metric at firstbut that was a massive mistake. Overall, my regular scores were actually solid: my total test score was a 7 out of 10, and my braking score was an 8. However, because of my job, my distraction score was a 4, which is pretty low and ended up ruining my average. The policy stated the driving test was supposed to last a full month, but they cut my test short and abruptly denied me coverage solely based on that low distraction rating.Here is the catch: as an Uber driver, my phone is constantly active for work. Apparently, even just playing music or having your phone screen active for navigation counts heavily against you.When I reached out to customer support to explain that I am a gig driver and that the app was misinterpreting necessary phone activity as distracted driving, they completely brushed me off and said they couldn't do anything for me. To make matters worse, they then decided to inform me that there is a "passenger button" you can press to pause tracking if someone else is driving or if you're in a different car. Nobody explained that feature to me beforehand, and by then, it was already too late.If you drive for Uber, Lyft, or any delivery app or if you simply like to play music from your phone and can't completely lock your screen away while driving do not get this insurance. They will track your work activity as a violation, cut your test short without warning, and offer zero support when you call. This has apparently happened to way too many people. Save yourself the frustration and look elsewhere. ### 1/5 — What does “Better Insurance” mean? *2026-06-04, version 351.0.0* Absolute dog feces of an app. Glitches, failures, prevention of being able to make changes fo my policy. It feels MALICIOUS how the app loads my "bill" in seconds but the moment I want to add a vehicle and give you guys more money, it won't work at all. Im tired of it and im not the only one. same experiance on Sumsung S24 ultra on Verizon service and a Iphone 17 on T-mobile. Both updated. Both good service. Not to mention the bait and switch on pricing with near excellent driving scores. So I just switched to a competitor that offers more for less. Not to mention they basically forced my partner and I away as customers by charging us almost 3 times our monthly premium. ✌🏻 ### 1/5 — WORST INSURANCE COMPANY EVER *2026-05-29, version 351.0.0* I was with for years! I didn’t notice that they kept on increasing my monthly bill. I reached out a received a very vague response as to why. I cancelled my subscription and switched to progressive which had MUCH better prices. They lied and reported my info to the DMV stating I didn’t have insurance converge when I STATED I was switching. Now I get a letter in the mail saying my license will be suspended because I didn’t have coverage. They never reached out, or called or anything to confirm my insurance switch. This entire thing is just a massive spam trap designed to harvest your location data and waste your time. The app forced me to track my driving habits for weeks—every single commute, errand, and road trip, constantly draining my phone battery and tracking my every move under the promise of a custom quote. I patiently completed their ridiculously long testing period, following every rule. And what happens the exact second the tracking period finally finishes? A sudden, generic "Technical Error" message pops up on the screen! No quote, no explanation, nothing. Just an abrupt crash that erases weeks of driving data and tells me to start all over again. This is clearly a bait-and-switch scam to get continuous background tracking permissions. But sold my home, and they raised my car insurance by hundreds, so I went online and found Root. Adjuster John Carter was extremely helpful in the appraisal. He took care of all the paperwork, payments, additional adjustments, and processes associated with the dealership efficiently and transparently. The whole process was seamless starting with the claim through the app. The headache associated with this collision and repair and all of the insurance work was zero.
