## What is Rooted Forward?

Rooted Forward is a student-run nonprofit. We research how American cities decided who could live where, and we publish what we find as free audio tours you walk yourself.

Hyde Park in Chicago is the first walk. Thirteen stops and three optional detours, about four miles, from Paul Cornell's stone in Harold Washington Park to Harper Court. Along the way, seven red plates name the tools that built American housing segregation, one at a time. The improvement associations. The realtors' rulebook. Restrictive covenants. Blockbusting. Buying on contract. Redlining. Urban renewal.

More cities are being researched now, and new walks arrive in the app as they are finished.
