## What is Roughly Calories?

Roughly Calories is a calorie tracker that feels like a note, not a dashboard.

Point the camera at your plate, say or type what you ate, or scan a barcode. Roughly estimates calories and macros, you confirm with one tap, and you're done. No account, no feed, no streaks. Your entries stay on your phone.

The estimate is deliberately rough and honestly labelled: every AI estimate carries a “≈”, and exact numbers appear only where they are exact, with barcode, search and manual entry. Enough to see where you stand without weighing everything.

WHAT YOU GET
• Photo: take a picture, adjust the amount if it looks off, done
• Speech: say what you ate, including the amount
• Text: type what you ate, like “150 g of skyr with berries”
• Search and barcode: Open Food Facts, no AI involved
• Manual entry, always, also offline
• Today at a glance, history by day
• A daily goal from your weight, your direction and your activity

WEIGHT, WATER AND APPLE HEALTH
All free. Log your weight and see the curve of the last 30 days; a row on Today shows the latest value. Count glasses of water there too. A daily goal for water is optional, and Roughly never recommends an amount. If you like, connect Apple Health: Roughly writes your calories and macros to Health, reads and writes weight and water, and reads the energy you burned. It's optional, and everything works without it. For a sharper daily goal you can add your height, year of birth and sex; skip them and the rough calculation stays.

WHAT YOU DON'T GET
No social features, no recipe browsing, no micronutrient tables, no badges. And no nutrition advice: Roughly estimates, it doesn't recommend.

FREE AND PREMIUM
Three AI entries a day are free, one of them by photo. Premium raises that to thirty a day, up to ten of them by photo; the yearly plan starts with a free trial. Manual entry, search and barcode are always unlimited.

PRIVACY
No account. Photos and descriptions are sent for the estimate; we don't store them. Your meals, weight and goal never leave your phone. Health data stays between Roughly and Apple Health on your phone.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.0.5 — 2026-10-16

New: log your weight and see how it develops over the last 30 days.
Count glasses of water on Today. A daily goal for water is optional.
Connect Apple Health if you like: your calories and macros go to Health, weight and water go both ways, and the energy you burned shows on Today.
A sharper daily goal with your height, year of birth and sex, if you want it.
History now shows the last seven calendar days.

### 1.0.4 — 2026-10-12

Roughly now speaks French: the whole app, the names of the foods it estimates, and the privacy policy.
New in Settings: set your own times for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

### 1.0.3 — 2026-10-03

New for photos: the camera fills the screen, and only the square that becomes your photo stays bright. The estimate shows your whole photo next to the name, and the weight now appears just once, with the amount.
New on Today: protein, fat and carbs now sit next to their goals, each with a bar. The barcode scanner has its own icon at the top.
New on entries: what the estimate recognized stays saved and shows under the name when you edit.
New in Settings: “Recommend Roughly”. One tap opens the share sheet with the App Store link, ready for Messages, Mail or AirDrop. The link contains no tracking code.
Fixed: after a barcode scan, package sizes in centiliters or deciliters, such as “33 cl” or “5 dl”, were read as a fraction of the real amount.
Fixed: in History, the goal line sat slightly too low.

### 1.0.2 — 2026-09-28

One screen for every estimate: photo, speech and text now end on the same confirmation screen. After speech or text, “Change the sentence” corrects the estimate for the same meal without using another AI entry.
Is the amount right? Below each estimate, pick ½, ¾, as is, 1½ or 2×, each with its weight. This replaces the portion sizes. Less is recalculated on the spot; more gets a fresh estimate while the meal has one left.
Manual entry: an optional amount field with − and + replaces the portion sizes. Numbers you type yourself are never recalculated.
Fixed: after reinstalling the app, AI estimates could keep failing with “This copy of the app could not be verified”.

### 1.0.1 — 2026-09-25

Type it: a third way next to photo and speech. The Text button opens a field for “150 g of skyr with berries”.
Search moved to the magnifier at the top, barcode scanning stays inside it.
Log again: long-press an entry or open it to add the same meal once more with the current time.
Photos: the first estimate lets the model weigh the plate itself; pick a portion size only to correct it.
Where the goal comes from: sources for the daily goal, in Settings and on the goal page.
