### 2/5 — Not accurate

*2024-09-19, version 3.7.1*

Had the app for one day and recorded a trip where I wasn’t driving and reduced my score for being on my phone

### 2/5 — An ok app

*2024-09-13, version 3.7.1*

Waiting to see if the discount is worth the headache with this one. It’s a bit inaccurate and really drains your phone battery. This app is in the top three of my heaviest usage apps.

### 2/5 — Needs a way to report inaccurate data

*2024-08-25, version 3.7.1*

The app is pretty good i guess. I like that it lets you place if you are a passenger or a driver for something. My only problem is that it ruined my perfect driving streak because it said i was driving 10 mph above the limit but the app recorded the limit as 40 mph when i was actually on the highway and the speed limit is 60 mph. So i wasnt actually driving over the speed limit and theres no way to report their error. But again, it ruined my perfect little streak ☹️

### 2/5 — App records any trip in any car, not just yours

*2024-08-03*

One of the main problems I have with this app is the fact that it tracks your mileage, even if you are the passenger in someone else’s car. If you set it to passenger it won’t affect your score if you’re on your phone or the person driving is speeding at all, but it’s still gathering info to track how many miles you’ve supposedly driven by the end of the year. Why isn’t there a device that goes in your car like the drive safe program so that it follows YOUR vehicle and not someone else’s? I got this app because it came with cheaper insurance company option but I don’t know that it’s even saving me money. It also does not have accurate speed limits so it says you’re speeding even if you aren’t. Super annoying

### 2/5 — Fix face recognition

*2024-07-16, version 3.7.1*

I put my phone in a cradle on my dash and it picks up my face a few times each drive and your stupid app digs me for “ driving, distracted” and I never touch my phone. And we need to be able to report when it has the wrong speed limits.

### 1/5 — Can’t open the app

*2024-05-25, version 3.7.0*

The app crashes before it fully opens. I was able to use it for a few weeks before this. If I delete the app and redownload, I’ll get penalized by my insurance for deleting the app. I’m sure I’d need a new code, which is linked to my plan. Guess I’ll just get demerits for the way others drive while I’m in their vehicles since I can’t change the trip type!

### 1/5 — God awful app

*2024-05-16, version 3.7.0*

This app just puts me as the driver every single time and I always have to change it manually.

### 2/5 — Penalties

*2024-04-23, version 3.6.0*

The way this app penalizes is quite ridiculous. I pulled out of my parking spot and forgot to start my navigation app, parked and started it, I had not even left the parking lot and it pinged me for distracted driving. Also there needs to be a way for your passenger to use your phone to change music, add stops on the gps etc and not be pinged for it. I’m also annoyed that it pings me for the time of day that I drive. I’m sorry, let me only leave my house, work, or school during the time you feel it’s appropriate…

### 1/5 — Must be stopped

*2024-04-07, version 3.5.1*

This kind of app invades privacy. It promotes distracted driving by making you think more about the app than driving the car. Also it can’t differentiate between a passenger and a driver. Also they should make the app available as a test to learn if it drains your phone causes bad driving habits etc before agreeing to use it for a few dollars off premiums.

### 1/5 — Not at all accurate

*2024-03-29, version 3.5.1*

Faulty and sketchy data

### 1/5 — Carpoolers beware

*2024-03-14, version 3.5.1*

This app has good intentions but a few big pitfalls.

-I carpool. Same route, different drivers depending on the day. I get pegged for distracted driving frequently when I am not driving.
-80 mph speed limit. The freeway I take to work has a speed limit of 80mph. Speed of traffic is generally 85-90 in the right lane. I need to choose between putting myself in danger by driving too slow or getting pegged for speeding.

Going into the app every. single. trip. to make sure I was marked correctly as a passenger or driver is exhausting and frustrating.

As a note to the developers - this would be a tough app to develop. It is difficult to track distracted driving for sure. Best of luck, but these are some pitfalls I have noticed quickly.

### 1/5 — Inaccurate

*2024-02-29, version 3.5.1*

If insurance companies are going to ask you to download an app for a discount, it should at least do the one thing it’s supposed to do. Every time I’m a passenger it records me as a driver, so I have a low score for distracted driving when I’m on my phone as a PASSENGER. It has no way to distinguish who is and isn’t driving and it says I’m speeding when I’m under the limit.

### 2/5 — Inaccurate speed limit information

*2024-02-27*

I have the Routely app on my phone for my car insurance. It has inaccurate information for speed limits in places. For instance, it has some streets with 35MPH limits as 30, 25 or even 20. It seems to not differentiate between a school zone limit during restricted hours and unrestricted hours, making the speed limit always 20MPH.

The “Time of day” category is also an unfair thing to rate. When I drive, and likely when many others drive, is determined by work. It’s not something I can easily change to improve my score.

I would like to add that I have a decent score on the app, but where I am deducted for points, especially time of day that I drive and driving the posted speed limit as opposed to what the app thinks, needs to be fixed.

### 2/5 — Needs Fixed- Bugs

*2024-02-12, version 3.5.1*

So my town has a speed limit of 35. This app has it at 15 mph in those zones which is extremely incorrect. Every single trip it has me listing as I’m speeding , there is no way to dispute them on the app. Needs to have a way to verify and update speeds a for each area. I’m not having my insurance go up because their app can’t work right.

### 2/5 — This app is dumb

*2024-01-20, version 3.4.1*

The app is okay, except for the fact that it rates you a fourth off of time of day. What is that?! What if I have night shifts? What if I'm driving a friend home late at night when they can't drive? In my opinion, driving at night shouldn't be an issue unless there are dumb drivers out, but that shouldn't affect my driving score. And anyways, there are less people driving at night. Doesn't make any sense.

### 1/5 — Speed limits aren’t accurate

*2024-01-12, version 3.4.1*

The speed limits on this all aren’t accurate at all and also it says I was distracted driving by checking my phone at a red light and it shouldn’t do that please fix this app and make it more accurate and take in fact that people check their phones at red lights and it shouldn’t say you are a distracted driver because of this.

### 1/5 — Updates

*2024-01-12, version 3.4.1*

App has many glitches. One the braking hard is killing me especially if I’m driving and my phone drops from my kids having it. This needs to be fixed.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Doesn’t score properly

*2025-09-10*

I downloaded this to get a small discount from my insurance. However after using for two months I find it doesn’t score properly. The other day I went with a friend on a day trip. He drove in his own car and I was a passenger. After the trip was over and I looked at the app and I selected “passenger” for each of the trips where my friend drove. (Before I did so it recorded several “events” of distracted driving since I looked at my phone to check texts from my boss.
When you are a passenger the app states that any events are taken out of the equation, the app explicitly states this fact. However when I selected passenger for the trips in which I was a passenger, the app did remove the “events” but the app dropped my overall score by 5 points. Which is not right.
I thought it would take a little while to update and fix my score but it did not.

Also there are a few metrics this app uses to rate you. One metric, “Time of Day” has consistently remained at Zero regardless of when I’m driving.
In my view this app does not accurately assess your safe driving record, I doubt I’ll continue using it in the future.
I do not recommend!

### 1/5 — I wish I could give 0 stars!

*2025-03-19, version 3.7.2*

I installed this app to save on my insurance. It is terribly inaccurate. It gave me 4 “dings” for phone use, when my phone was mounted to my dash, and no one touched it. I thought it might have been a fluke, but it’s happened several times since. I get sudden braking dings when I absolutely do not sudden brake. Which is insane anyway, because why should we be penalized if someone else pulls out in front of us? Currently getting quotes from other companies.

### 1/5 — Flawed

*2024-12-06*

If you have a faulty collecting app like this, you will have faulty data.
Insurance companies have been duped, or they want flawed data for excuses to raise rates.

Within 2 weeks of my trying, flaws in app already appearing. Though my trips clearly say I drive in the daytime, between 8a and 6p, without exception, it has 80% of those same trips labeled as “late night” time of day category.

As a former IT admin, I know of NO app that needs to be Always On, if coded correctly. A better approach is to let a user simply signify when they are taking a trip, like we do when we exercise…OR, to tie use to a vehicle - Not a phone. Always On begs data inaccuracy. So there is something else they are gleaning, though they say they aren’t.

I find it interesting the app is supposed to be about better driving, but it doesn’t really tell you PRECISELY what those are? Define “late night” and Time of Day? You won’t find it stated anywhere. Define what discount percentages are given at what point, time or trips? Is Time of Day a factor? You won’t find that either.

The paltry 5% savings isn’t worth my handing over my data, which my 45 year perfect driving record should be plenty, to substantiate. That’s how they used to determine things.

### 1/5 — REMOVE “TIME OF DAY”

*2024-12-04, version 3.7.1*

I have this app for an insurance discount. They need to remove “time of day” as a factor in your score. I can never get my score where I want it to be because I have to drive at certain times of the day. News flash, people work and have to drive at inconvenient times. It’s so frustrating that my score is down so low because of the time of day I NEED to be driving.

### 1/5 — There has to be a better way!!

*2024-12-02, version 3.7.1*

So tired of having to go in and say I am a passenger and not a driver!! Im sorry but after so long if you see I never touch my phone when I am driving then you should know that on the times my phone is touched then I am a passenger. Especially when I am on a long road trip and you give me 73 events!! I give up…give me a bad score. I will gladly lose my discount to never have to open your app again!!

### 1/5 — Inaccurate

*2024-11-30, version 3.7.1*

First use I pulled over into a parking lot and stopped completely in a parking spot to pull up a drive-thru code, it took me five seconds while stopped in a parking lot to do this. After retrieving the code I sat and waited in a drive-thru line. It is encouraged to pull over if you need to use a phone. I completely sat in a drug-thru and it dinged me for an event for looking at a code while stopped in a parking spot and even continued that trip while I sat in the drive-thru. There is a second trip I was actually not driving during that I used to test this app. I never used my phone as a passenger, never logged in to the phone, as a passenger, nothing at all but it dings me for an event using the phone. Today I sat in the right lane and I check my speed frequently and I never once sped. I was passed by 90% of drivers as I went 5 miles under the speed limit but it said I was speeding. I’m sure the drivers around me would be more frustrated if I went more than 5 under. Please fix the inaccuracies in this app! Thank you!

Added note: my charging ports are loose on my phone and in the stereo I plug my phone in. So when I hit a bump and the charging cord comes loose and the stereo says reading it acts like I’m using the phone. The phone is not even being touched and the Lock Screen just flashes on but never even gets swiped up. It acts like you use the phone even in the passenger seat just over the charger reconnecting over an Ohio pothole. I guess not only inaccurate but a plug to force you to upgrade your phone. This app is grading driving it should be able to tell that you’re not actively touching your phone and decipher bumps etc.

### 1/5 — App crashing

*2024-10-02, version 3.7.1*

This app has been crashing for months now. I’m not sure what the issue could be.

### 1/5 — Invasive, inaccurate, and not worth it

*2024-09-18, version 3.7.1*

I signed up for this app through Farm Bureau to save a measly 5%. The “events” that it penalizes me with is driving in rush hour and at night. Are you kidding me? It suggests that I drive during the day and not during peak hours. I’m sure that’s great for reverse vampires, but I drive a lot at night and during the rush. Hello? I have a job.

Then it penalizes me for being a distracted driver. Yeah, I use apps. I listen to music, podcasts and YouTube all of the time. That’s my right. And I’m not going to set something BEFORE I leave and let it roll. If I stop for coffee at a drive-thru , I’m going to switch to something (new video or song). I don’t “watch” anything while driving. My phone uses apps in the background. Heard of Life365? Yeah, it penalizes you if you have that running. Siri? Other A.I. apps? Phone calls? Yep, it penalizes you for everything.

Look here, Routely. My phone doesn’t magically turn into a rock when I’m in my car. It RUNS. I function as an adult with my phone. And it runs better without your battery-draining, hot garbage app. Your maps, routes, and speedzone tracking are way off and are outdated. I’ve braked hard and it doesn’t show up in the events.

To summarize, this app fails on about every front. The interface is SO 2008 and isn’t intuitive at all. It relies on features that are obscure and confusing. And it doesn’t provide enough detail to actual help and educate drivers. I’m bringing this up at the next Farm Bureau meeting that I’m attending and my review there will be just as harsh. As for consumers, don’t bother with this app. It’s a complete and utter waste of time.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t track trips

*2024-07-02, version 3.7.0*

The diagnostic is ok, but still the app doesn’t track trips… I even lost my policy discount because of it just failing to track my trips
If you try to reinstall it, it will not let you in with your activation code. So stupid, I had to change my code via insurance company

### 1/5 — INACCURATE

*2024-06-16, version 3.7.0*

Been using the app a month and half now. First my (Time of day) score is less than at the half mark. I rarely drive at night. Plus how can someone dictate what time I drive? I feel like that a invasion of privacy. Second the speed limits are inaccurate. Regardless I speed or not my score doesn’t do past 7.0. I have had perfect driving weeks and my score is just that. I have had weeks with a few distractions and speeding and my score dropped. As far as the distractions score.. I use my GPS on my phone and listen to my music while driving. OH WELL..

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Nery Gonzales

*2024-01-23, version 3.4.1*

Me encanta esta aplicación

### 5/5 — Awesome service

*2023-02-17, version 3.3.9*

Pax was very nice and friendly and got me in and out with no problems.

### 5/5 — Nice app

*2021-05-25*

Very good app to track my trips

### 4/5 — Lady floyd

*2024-02-22, version 3.5.1*

The app will definitely make sure you to be aware of your speeding habits. I pick up my grandchildren often and my phone keeps them occupied in the car. I often have distracted driving events because if this. That’s my only issue with this app.

### 4/5 — Review

*2023-09-17*

I think the app is helpful on keeping kids accountable. It does record your trips which can be helpful too if you need to remember what you did earlier in the week. I have noticed a few false detections with the app thinking you’re using your phone and marking it as distracted driving. I’m thinking it may be the movement of the phone itself either from a pothole or when you go over a manhole cover that briefly shakes the phone and the app misreads it as you accessing it. Kind of annoying. There needs to be a better way such as detecting your phone’s screen being unlocked with the combination of movement of the phone too.

### 4/5 — App

*2023-01-04, version 3.3.7*

It’s a good app I just can’t stand how when your merging off the freeway it’s says you are speeding knowingly you can’t go 25mph in the middle of the interstate or freeway

### 4/5 — Normal braking keeps recording as event.

*2022-03-23*

When leaving my home, I must travel on a 4 lane divided road with numerous stop lites. The speed limit is 45 MPH. When the lite turns yellow, I stop instead of running the lite. Invariably, your app shows an excessive braking event. Virtually all of my events occur on this same stretch of road and involves stopping for a lite that has turned yellow while I am stopping rather than running the lite. You need to re-evaluate your program calibration.
You also need to add golf carts to your options as I ride mine almost daily, and have to select OTHER to accurately show my trips.

**Developer response:** Thanks for all this feedback! We will take it into consideration as we are always looking to improve the app.

### 4/5 — It does what it’s supposed to with just a few bugs

*2021-03-23, version 2.10.1*

I really like the app, it works well for me and its easy to use. Sometimes events happen even when they didn't but thats fine. Thats all I’d change, it’s overrall a really nice app!

### 3/5 — Needs a Report Function

*2024-03-08*

I am a safe driver. I don’t speed, I have small kids in the car so I am very careful. But this app consistently has wrong speed limits for my area or is enforcing yellow speed signs which NC law enforcement states are just suggestions and not enforceable speed limits. Additionally there is no way to say if someone else is using my phone while I am driving. There should be an option for this so that I am not counted as driving distracted if I am not the one using my phone. This app needs a way to report incorrect speed limits and to mark how one’s phone was being used in the car.

### 3/5 — Speeding

*2023-11-06, version 3.4.1*

App says I’m speeding when I know for a fact I’m driving like a grandpa..if you can update your speed zones on the app please because I see multiple times where I’m going the speed limit which is 55 mph but the app is saying the speed limit is 35 or 45 mph. Other then that the app is great put your phone on dnd while driving and don’t touch your phone till you make it to your destination
