What's New in Routine Tracker

2.0.10

August 19, 2026

What’s new: a Sunlight habit, synced with Apple Health Indoor days add up. This update adds a dedicated Sunlight habit so you can treat time in daylight like any other routine: set a daily target, see your streak, and keep it next to the rest of your day. Most people get the majority of their vitamin D from sunlight on bare skin, not from food. UVB in daylight converts 7-dehydrocholesterol in the skin into previtamin D3, which then becomes vitamin D3. Research in this area (including work published in The Journal of Steroid Biochemistry and Molecular Biology) describes how that pathway is tightly regulated: after a point, extra UVB turns previtamin D3 into other photoproducts instead of endlessly raising vitamin D. In plain terms, brief, regular daylight is useful; baking for hours is not how the body “makes more.” How much sun is enough varies. A common everyday reference is about 10 to 30 minutes of midday light on arms and legs when UVB is available — but latitude, season, time of day, cloud cover, window glass, clothing, sunscreen, age, and skin pigmentation all change how much you actually make. Darker skin needs more time for the same UVB response. In winter at higher latitudes, UVB can be too weak for meaningful synthesis. This habit is a daylight reminder, not a lab test and not medical advice. If you have a skin condition, take photosensitizing medication, or have been told to limit sun, follow your clinician. Never aim to burn: build up slowly, and use shade, clothing, or sunscreen for longer outdoor time. How it works in Habit OS • Add “Get 20 minutes of sunlight” from the Habits Gallery (you can change the minutes). • Turn on Apple Health sync to read Time in Daylight automatically. That metric is recorded by Apple Watch SE (2nd generation), Series 6 and later, and Apple Watch Ultra, using the ambient light sensor. • No compatible Watch? Leave Health sync off and complete the habit by tap, the same way as your other habits. • History, streaks, and reminders work like the rest of Habit OS. We only request read access to daylight time to keep the habit in sync. A small outdoor walk, lunch away from the window, or a few minutes on a balcony all count as showing up. The goal is a sustainable daylight habit you can see, not a perfect UV dose. Thank you for using Habit OS. If this template helps, we’d love a review — and if something feels off, tell us inside the app.
