I’ve had this camera for over 3 years and the only problem I have with it is using the app. It doesn’t always want to connect to my phone. It will say no internet connection. And I think the last time it was updated was 2 years ago??? I mean if I knew the app and linking the camera to the app was such a mess. I would have never bought the thing. LOL ### 1/5 — Non functional app *2021-12-30, version 1.0.8* Intel set up of two rove cameras to WiFi worked easily on first attempt. Today about 1 month later, neither camera will connect to phone using the WiFi. Found this malfunction after being backed into in a parking lot when trying to show the clip to the officers making the police report. Rove customer service fixes, as attached were not able to fix the problem. 1. Uninstall the ROVE App 2. Please go to the camera's SYSTEM SETTINGS and then set the camera for the DEFAULT SETTING. 3. Now turn ON the WiFi from the camera > Then go to your Phone’s Settings > WiFi > look for ROVE wifi name > then touch the “i” button in blue all the way on the right side of the name. Now, once you touch the I button, you will get more options. 4. Now, please select the FORGET THIS WiFi or REMOVE THIS NETWORK. Once you make the wifi forget, please close all your apps completely on your Phone, restart your phone and the dash camera. 6. Re-install the App 7. Turn Off the phone's Mobile Cellular data. 8. Turn off your VPN if you have any. 9. Turn on the camera's WIFI 10. Connect to the camera's WFI 11. Open the App I would not buy this product again. ### 3/5 — Could be better *2021-12-29, version 1.0.8* Reasons so far the app didn’t work/quit working. 1- Didn’t allow the app to detect all network devices during install. 2- VPN was turned on. Camera takes clear enough video during the day and at night. It’s inconvenient to remove the card from the camera and also the camera from the vehicle. So I was glad there was an app. Downloads from the camera to phone are slow. And reviewing videos from the camera are extremely lagged, not worth trying. When you download a video to your phone, you have to save it yet again to your camera roll (photos) otherwise it is stuck in the app under its own folder. At the time of review it’s been a year since they’ve updated. ### 1/5 — Good Camera Terrible App *2021-12-26, version 1.0.8* Camera is very good, im pleased with it so far, but the app on the other hand…sucks. It hasn’t been updated in over a year, the videos you try to watch on it are EXTREMELY laggy, not even watchable. In conclusion the camera is great and works perfectly fine as advertised, but don’t even bother downloading the app, it is totally pointless ### 3/5 — What ever happened to the new updated app? *2021-11-24, version 1.0.8* I was very pleased with the quality of the Rove camera , where I decided to put them in both of my vehicles. What attracted me to this camera is if I had to show proof to a traffic officer; with the Rove WiFi capability, I was sold. However, the downloaded app stopped working. After contacting support, I was told that the technicians were working on a updated app that should be available for download in a couple of months. That was back in July and no app that works is available. This is late November. I tried the 4K stealth app and the Rove video and photo app. Nothing works. This is the second brand of camera that I purchased where support fell through. Rating your camera, it was hands up 5 star. I can’t give a good rating at this time. ### 1/5 — Does not work with iOS 15 *2021-10-27, version 1.0.8* Don’t buy this camera thinking you can get it to work with your iPhone on iOS 15. It will Not and they will not provide any assistance. ### 1/5 — Application no longer works with rove device *2021-10-26, version 1.0.8* Well not the type of planned obsolescence I was expecting. After many happy years with this dash cam I finally needed it for its intended purpose, to capture video of something crazy on the road. Yet when I went through the steps to connect with Wi-Fi the app will not recognize the dash cam. I am now forced to spend hundreds replacing a product that still works because the app does not. Furthermore, I can’t send the video to insurance to back up my side of things. Thanks Rove! I’m thinking a lawsuit might be in order if things don’t go well for me. ### 1/5 — App doesn’t work *2021-10-05, version 1.0.8* I’ve had the camera for a week now and not once have I been able to actually get the app and the camera to connect. My phone says I’m connected to the WiFi but the app just keeps saying” connect to camera WiFi and then return here” and when I do I’m still welcomed with the same irritating screen. ### 1/5 — Bad *2021-10-03, version 1.0.8* Camera is just ok… features are limited and clunky interface. But the real downside is how horrible the app is… have to connect each and every time you want to download or even view a video…. But in order to even do that you have to go in and turn on the wifi from camera settings, yes each and every time. ### 2/5 — Bad app *2021-09-02, version 1.0.8* Watching video through the app stutters constantly. Have to load sd card into a computer for smooth playback. Fix that issue and it would be great. But until then I'll leave it at 2 stars. ### 1/5 — Horrible App *2021-08-27, version 1.0.8* The camera is decent. It’s a camera, nothing special. The app is absolutely horrible. To be able to open and use the app to view live or find video, you have to first turn your camera onto WiFi, which stops recording, open up your phones WiFi and connect to camera, then open the app. That’s the process, assuming it actually works. Hardly ever can get the app to actually recognize connection and even if you it eventually does, navigating through the app is very slow and not a good user interface or experience. I’ve had cameras before the could instantly open my phone and view, without having to actually go through all the steps and processes that this does. ### 1/5 — Made in China - App doesn’t work *2021-07-24, version 1.0.8* Although the company’s website touts it being Chicago based, the box says made in China. The reviews about the app not working are accurate. It connects but then freezes on my my iPhone 12. I hope they improve it… ### 1/5 — This app sends data to China *2021-07-11, version 1.0.8* I bought this camera thinking that Rove was an American company, and they do claim to be. I noticed the Rove iOS app trying to send data to a suspicious domain. This traffic was blocked and flagged on my home network, and after a little investigation the domain is owned and located in China. Why would an American company be sending who knows what from their app to China? I’m going to delete this app and just use my camera the ‘old fashioned’ way by putting its memory card into my computer to read the filesa ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Better Off Getting a Portable SD Reader *2023-01-04, version 1.0.8* The app can be very convenient for quick video access, but the Wi-Fi technology it uses is very slow and unstable. I’ve had my dashcam for a while, and during that time, I was thinking my SD card was corrupted or even worse, I had a defective camera. Whenever I tried to watch any recording on the app, there would be horrendous skips and glitches. However, after getting a portable SD card reader, those same videos now play perfectly fine and actually save to my phone now too. However, the app is really just from the Stone Age. Terrible to use, not very simple. You have to download the video to the app, then transfer to phone. Instead of just downloading to phone. So far I have used the records twice. Settings are easy to use and the Picture quality is great both during the day and night They need to work on the app and hammer out the way it works with try he camera.
