### 3/5 — Please update the video software

*2026-09-06, version 26.0819.02*

Some pets are very active and some of their best moments are caught on video. Blurry pics are frustrating to owners and pet sitters when it’s all that you’re able to get. The Rover app does not like uploading videos, especially if they’re over 5 seconds long. Please update your software.

### 2/5 — Sitter support stinks

*2026-09-01, version 26.0819.02*

I wish support would actually READ my emails instead of asking me the same questions over and over again. There are also time sensitive issues and they don’t seem to care.

### 3/5 — Great App, Poor Service

*2026-08-30, version 26.0819.02*

The App is well designed and functional but using the Rover Service was a bad experience. First attempt at booking a sitter resulted in NO RESPONSE. While understanding that there are unknown circumstances that may have caused this, how does it happen with no follow up or accountability? I selected the closest person who offered this service. When they didn’t respond, all of the other options are further away and 50% more expensive. Not a good experience using Rover.

### 2/5 — 5 years later -Updated

*2026-08-30, version 26.0819.02*

Been using this app for years now. Only had one glitch and that was recently. Not really a fan of the new update and having all my past booked and unbooked in the same area. So they lose a star on that. Other then that it’s easy to use

Update: from 4stars to 2. So I’ve been with Rover for many years now and their new system is a slap in the face. Instead of starting the lowest tier at 80% earnings, they start you with 60/70% earnings. So of course in order to get more money as a sitter you have to up the price, which in turn will turn off potential new clients. The tier system defiantly needs to change before they expand it to every sitter or they will lose people to wag or other pet are services.

### 2/5 — Glitches a lot and has deleted me

*2026-08-28, version 26.0819.02*

This app is quite buggy
Cannot fault the sitters on there I have used but lately have really struggled with the postcode location wanting a french postcode being I am in the UK makes no sense

### 1/5 — Zero Support from Rover

*2026-08-26, version 26.0819.01*

I’ve been fortunate that most of the sitters I’ve booked through Rover have been great. But when I ran into an issue with a sitter who left my dog outside for apparently hours in the July Phoenix daytime heat, I received zero support from Rover’s team. Ultimately I was advised to update my profile so sitters would have more information on my dog (because apparently I need to tell them not to leave dogs outside in 107 degree heat). If I hadn’t already found another sitters who treats my dog wonderfully, I’d be off of this platform entirely.

### 1/5 — Can’t filter by price

*2026-08-25, version 26.0819.01*

Can’t filter by price or by distance

### 2/5 — As a sitter I sometimes feel unsafe

*2026-08-25, version 26.0819.01*

I’ve been pet sitting for over size years now, most of that being on Rover, and sometimes I feel unsafe meeting strangers. The people requesting my services are not required to have photos or any info about them or their pets. I have to do a background check and have all this info about me which makes sense, but it feels very one sided. I have no idea what sort of situation I am walking into half the time. There should be more safety measures for the sitters as well as the clients.

### 3/5 — Good idea, okay execution

*2026-08-25, version 26.0805.00*

I love the idea of apps like rover but once again execution doesnt quite meet idea. All 4 moves and 10 cities I’ve been to never seem to quite work with sitters availability and distance. Why am I even been shown sitters that are outside of range? Shouldn’t I be able to filter that out if I wanted to? Or sort by distance, age, etc?

### 2/5 — Not Airbnb for dog sitters

*2026-08-24, version 26.0805.00*

The problem with Rover is its inconsistency with finding good dog sitters who are available. I’ve met just in my first session with two different dog sitters, drove in 3+ hours only for them to tell me either that they have canceled because something has come up or they would not even be able to take my dog out to pee every four hours, one guy noted. He works from 9 to 5, which would obviously not work if he took a second to read the profile before I drove over an hour, when Rover was informed about this, their decision was to credit me $20 for 3+ hours and two canceled bookings, deleting the app

### 1/5 — 20% service fee!

*2026-08-24, version 26.0805.00*

20% fee charge is ridiculous! Greedy

### 3/5 — 3 star at best

*2026-08-24, version 26.0805.00*

So many things wrong with this app but if I list them my review won’t appear🤷🏼‍♀️
So here to tell you that from a sitter’s pov it’s 3 star at best

### 4/5 — Booking

*2026-08-23, version 26.0805.00*

Hi rover i’m a pet sitter on the app and the only thing i really have to say is can if I put myself as away or not available for certain dates could you please make so the family can’t request. I know the app said it won’t affect me but when i’m away on a trip or handling things I’m still can’t fully disconnect because I have to respond to families and tell them i’m not available.

### 1/5 — Beware! They don’t support pet parents

*2026-08-23, version 26.0805.00*

After years and years of using rover for pet sitting I had a complete nightmare experience with a pet sitter that left my pets and home unsafe. When I complained, I was told that although my experience and safety are “important” to them, I do not qualify for any refund. They let just anyone work for them and your pets are NOT safe.

### 1/5 — NOT WORTH IT FOR SITTERS

*2026-08-21, version 26.0805.00*

SOUNDS LIKE YOUR SITTERS ARENT HAPPY, ROVER. Owners can be verified with names like t.yuytk200, set pet as NA, get through verification for “1 pet” and then request 3. THEN, YOUR METRICS WILL BE PENALIZED. SECOND, Rover will allow owners to request you while other services are booked during the request time and then penalize your metrics for being “unavailable”. Sitters shouldn’t be penalized for trying to accommodate an owner. THIRD, fees aren’t worth the headache.

### 1/5 — Tiered System for Sitters

*2026-08-20, version 26.0805.00*

A couple months ago Rover introduced a "tiered system" for boarding pets. Basically, until you earn a certain amount from person X, they will increase their typical 20% cut (which is already a lot) to **30%** 🫪

Basically a major incentive for people to take their services off the app. Boo capitalism. Literally no reason they needed to introduce this 'feature'.

### 1/5 — Fundamentally Makes No Sense

*2026-08-20, version 26.0805.00*

The way the app works is inconvenient for everyone involved. After I put in the times I need petsitting, it should show me everyone who’s available during those times, as petsitters should preset what their availability is. Then, I should pick which sitters I want, and if they’re interested, then meet a few of them and select one. Currently you have to talk to a bunch of people and meet a bunch of people and apparently this lowers both parties internal rating which makes absolutely zero sense. Almost every other dogsitting app is better because it fundamentally understands sitter availability and interviewing petsitters.

### 1/5 — Lost a Customer

*2026-08-19, version 26.0805.00*

Updated review

I am updating my original review after making multiple attempts to give Rover the opportunity to address my concerns.

My original complaint involved communication from a Rover “Star Sitter” who made negative assumptions and judgments about my dogs despite never having met or evaluated them. My dogs have had obedience training and socialization. I completely respect a sitter’s right to decline any booking; my concern was the manner in which this sitter communicated and made judgments about dogs she had never met.

Unfortunately, my experience with Rover after reporting the incident became as concerning to me as the original interaction.

I contacted Rover’s Support/Trust & Safety team and asked to speak with a supervisor. I was offered a callback, which I explained was not satisfactory because I wanted the issue escalated at that time. The call ultimately disconnected under circumstances that Rover and I characterize differently. When Rover later described the call through my BBB complaint, I asked that they review the actual call recording or records so there would be an objective account of what occurred.

I repeatedly made clear that I was not asking Rover to disclose confidential information about the sitter. I wanted Rover to address whether this type of communication was consistent with the professionalism customers should reasonably expect from someone Rover designates as a “Star Sitter,” as well as how my concerns were handled by Rover’s own Support team.

Rover also added a $25 promotional credit to my account. I had not lost any money and had never requested compensation. The credit can only be used toward another Rover booking and expires. I explained that I was not looking for money or an incentive to use Rover again; I was looking for accountability and a meaningful response to my concerns.

After multiple exchanges through the Better Business Bureau, Rover still did not provide a response that satisfactorily addressed those concerns. The BBB ultimately closed the complaint as “Answered,” not resolved to my satisfaction, meaning Rover had responded and BBB could not require further action.

I gave Rover multiple opportunities to address this appropriately because I believe a company should have the opportunity to correct a poor experience before I make a final judgment. Unfortunately, after going through that process, I am more disappointed in Rover’s handling of the situation than I was when this began.

A $25 promotional credit was never what I wanted. I wanted my concerns to be heard, taken seriously, and addressed. After multiple attempts, I do not believe Rover accomplished that.

For that reason, I cannot recommend Rover and do not intend to use the service in the future.

### 1/5 — Just don’t

*2026-08-17, version 26.0805.00*

You’d have to pretty desperate to be underpaid by this scammy app. A 49 dollar review fee?! Seriously?! And 25 dollars for overnight pet sitting. Hilarious. It’s 100 dollars these people are embarrassing

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — app development/functionality

*2026-09-06, version 26.0819.02*

App doesn’t even load when I attempt to login, just goes blank. I lack the patience to keep trying, I’ll just try another dog sitter app.

### 1/5 — Serious safety concern

*2026-09-05, version 26.0819.02*

I am extremely disappointed with Rover’s handling of a serious incident involving my aunt dog.
My dog stayed with a Rover sitter from 05/28 through 06/24. She was in the sitter’s care for the entire booking. After she returned home, we discovered that she was pregnant. Based on the timing, the pregnancy occurred while she was staying with the sitter, this was confirmed by the vet.
We contacted Rover to report what happened because we trusted the sitter to keep the dog safe and appropriately supervised. My concern was not simply the fact that the dog became pregnant, it was how this could have happened while she was under the sitter’s care and whether the dogs were properly supervised and separated.
I expected Rover to take the situation seriously, investigate the circumstances and determine whether the sitter failed to follow appropriate safety and supervision practices.
Instead, after contacting Rover, I was told that nothing would be done and that the sitter would not receive any sanction. I was not given a satisfactory explanation of what investigation was conducted or why Rover determined that no action was warranted.
This is incredibly concerning. If a dog becomes pregnant while staying with a sitter for almost a month, there should at minimum be a meaningful investigation into what happened, particularly when the owner entrusted the sitter with the dog's safety. Specially since the dog has to undergo a hysterectomy after that pregnancy almost took her life.

### 1/5 — If you care for your pet, avoid this app

*2026-09-01, version 26.0819.02*

Booked a ‘house sitter’ while we were out of town for 4 days. We wound up having a bad house sitter. They left the dogs for 11 hours, didn’t stay the night, was spending a total of 40 minutes a day with our dogs. I complained to Rover they stood by the dog sitter and would not refund. They do not take into account the care for pets. Their service is also bad. They sent us one email and said they will not respond if we have questions or additional concerns.

Long story short, it’s an app trying to make money and not run by pet lovers.

If you care for the welfare of your pet, avoid this app.

### 1/5 — Sitters Deserve Fairness Too

*2026-09-01, version 26.0819.02*

I am extremely disappointed with how Rover handled the investigation and removal of my account after approximately four years as a sitter.

For something as serious as permanent account removal, I expected a fair and transparent investigation with meaningful one-on-one communication. Instead, most communication was through emails and brief phone calls where I was often only asked to verify my name without receiving clear details about the investigation or decision.

In four years, fewer than 10 dogs in my care had reported incidents, many involving things such as stress-related diarrhea, environmental allergies, minor scratches, or small nips during dog interactions. Not every medical or behavioral issue that happens during a stay automatically means sitter negligence.

I also reported an incident involving a client’s dog attempting to bite me, but I received no meaningful follow-up. This made me feel that sitter safety and concerns were not given the same consideration.

Rover has a responsibility to protect pets and pet parents, but sitters deserve support and fairness too. Before permanently removing an account, sitters should be given the opportunity to speak directly with the investigator, explain their side, provide documentation, and receive a clear explanation of the final decision.

Rover’s investigation and appeal process needs more transparency, communication, and fairness for everyone involved.

### 1/5 — Scam

*2026-08-31*

I paid to become a pet sitter July 9th 2026, it is now August 31st (almost 2 months) and I still have not been reviewed. The business is fraudulent. Customer support cannot do a thing. Money is lost.

**Developer response:** We're so sorry to hear that your account still isn't live, we can understand how frustrating this must feel. Please feel free to call our Rover Support Team at 888-453-7889 so we can provide you an update on the status of your account. -JC

### 1/5 — Lots of room for for improvement

*2026-08-31, version 26.0819.02*

Rover is a decent way to connect with potential clients, but beyond that, the app and customer support are seriously lacking.

Customer service is incredibly slow and frustrating. Even during a live chat, it can take 10–20 minutes to get a response, and when someone finally does answer, the responses often feel scripted, unhelpful, and disconnected from what you’re actually asking. It feels less like support and more like trying to get through a wall of canned responses.

The app itself is also unreliable unless you have nearly perfect service. Messages, notifications, and basic features can be inconsistent or difficult to use, which is especially frustrating for an app that sitters are expected to rely on while actively working.

Overall, Rover is fine as a platform for connecting sitters with clients, but the actual user experience leaves a lot to be desired. For the percentage Rover takes from every booking, the app should function better and the customer service should be significantly more responsive and helpful.

Use Wag instead.

### 1/5 — Unfair to sitters

*2026-08-30, version 26.0819.02*

Rover’s new terms are increasingly one-sided against sitters.

Sitters pay for their own background checks, while pet owners are not comparably screened. If something happens to a sitter, Rover limits its own responsibility and restricts how disputes can be pursued.

At the same time, Rover takes 20% of sitter earnings and charges pet owners an additional service fee. For that cut, meaningful sitter support is extremely limited.

Rover also heavily penalizes sitters for taking bookings off-platform, despite shifting most of the actual risk onto the sitter.

Sitters do the work, enter strangers’ homes, handle animals, travel, and deal with emergencies. Rover collects fees from both sides while functioning largely as a scheduling and payment platform. The balance between what Rover takes and what it provides has become hard to justify.

### 1/5 — Greedy Company

*2026-08-29, version 26.0819.02*

The Tier system has been awful. Taking 30% from sitters is insane. I’m a cat sitter so on average I’m not going to get regular booking compared to dog sitters. They shouldn’t be taking more than 15%, especially since you have to PAY to get accepted. Awful app who doesn’t care about their sitters at all.

### 1/5 — Phone number blocked

*2026-08-27, version 26.0819.01*

Tried every email I have and all of them say “your phone number goes to another account” and there’s no way to access that to know which one goes to my number, and you need a phone number to request sitters! So insane!

### 1/5 — Would not recommend this!!

*2026-08-27, version 26.0819.01*

I wouldn’t recommend Rover. Long story short, cat sitter killed my cat. Profile said she had experience with giving cats medication, she did not give my cat her diabetes medication and did not communicate that with me. When we go home from our trip my cat was dying! Took her to the vet and she passed away 3 days later. Created a claim with Rover, they provided a refund for the cat sitters visit but refused to provide me with the refund of the vet stay and because the vet could not state the “cat” killed my cat because she couldn’t “legally” Rover did not take any responsibility, nor could I sue them because terms and conditions when you sign up! Please be careful and don’t use this pet sitter app.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Expensive, but great resource

*2026-08-19, version 26.0805.00*

A friend told us about this app. We are so happy with the sitters/dog walkers we found. Our dog loves them both! No more begging family for help because we don’t want to kennel when we must travel without our dog.

We do have them come to our home instead of taking her to their home.

One suggestion we have is the text messages should go to both of us. When we aren’t together or one of isn’t available, the other should also know our sitter has reached out.

### 5/5 — Great source of income and I get to meet great cats and dogs!

*2026-07-29, version 26.0722.00*

I’ve been a Rover sitter for two years now. I’m on disability so this is a great way to make a side income. I haven’t had any issues with any of the cats I’ve boarded, owners have been super friendly, the app is easy to navigate, and Rover support has always been there when I needed them. I’ve had a great experience with Rover and have recommended it to a lot of my friends looking for a side gig. I’ve also used Rover to find a dog sitter and I’ve had great experiences. Would recommend for both pet care and a side gig.

### 5/5 — Very thankful for Rover!

*2026-07-28, version 26.0722.00*

I’m happy Rover exists because I’ve been able to explore this job over the years and I have loved being able to work with animals!! 🐾 Thank you for this opportunity!

### 5/5 — Kaylee

*2026-07-25, version 26.0708.01*

We used Kaylee and she went above and beyond with our Maggie she sent us pictures everyday❤️ and Maggie loved her! I will be using her again and we highly recommend her❤️❤️❤️

### 5/5 — Find pet care in small towns!

*2026-07-14, version 26.0708.01*

Love it! Great app for finding pet care in a small town! I’ve had a positive experience so far!

### 5/5 — Love

*2026-06-26, version 26.0610.03*

We’ve used Rover 3x. Two times with a repeat sitter for our two chihuahuas, who is the absolute best. And once, when we had to cancel suddenly and the sitter reimbursed us. Very satisfied!! Highly recommended!!!

### 5/5 — 4 years at rover. Dog sitting.

*2026-06-20*

We have been house and dog sitting through Rover for over four years and genuinely love the platform. As a couple who both work from home, we can easily relocate for a sit and provide dogs with companionship throughout the day while maintaining their normal routines.

One suggestion we would make is the introduction of a “long-distance” or “nationwide” sitter option. Rover currently allows sitters to set a travel radius, but many experienced house sitters are willing to travel much further for the right booking.

We understand that meet-and-greets are an important part of the process. For longer-distance bookings, an initial video call could allow owners and sitters to get to know each other, discuss the dog’s routine, and view the home. If both parties are comfortable after the video call, the booking could proceed. If either party still felt a face-to-face meeting was necessary, a meet-and-greet could then be arranged before confirming the sit.

This approach would give owners access to a much larger pool of experienced sitters while still maintaining the reassurance and trust that meet-and-greets provide. It would also allow remote workers and experienced house sitters to explore different parts of the UK, and potentially Europe, while continuing to provide excellent care for pets.

**Developer response:** Hi, thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback regarding our app. We’re constantly looking for ways to make Rover better than ever and always appreciate hearing from community members like you. I’ve passed along your feedback to our product team. If you’re ever looking for assistance, feel free to call our Rover Support team at 888-453-7889 and we’d be happy to help. -Lynn

### 5/5 — Decent app. But this bug is annoying.

*2026-06-08, version 26.0527.02*

There is a red-circle "1" on the app that won't go away and nothing shows in the app explaining why. It looks like I need to see some notification. But in the app, nothing. No other complaints, just the headspace this bug steals every day when I'm not using it.

### 5/5 — Trusted Platform for Sitters, Peace of Mind for Pet Owners.

*2026-04-15, version 26.0401.03*

Using Rover as a sitter has been a great experience. It makes booking, communication, and updates easy, and has helped me connect with amazing pet parents while growing my services. As a pet owner, I love using Rover. It’s easy to find trustworthy sitters, and the updates while I’m away give me peace of mind knowing my dogs are in good hands.

### 5/5 — Great work, great people!

*2026-04-06, version 26.0318.01*

I’m so happy to see this platform succeed and grow as more people get to experience and learn together. I hope one day I can be part of this community as a sitter, it’s more than a job, it’s a privilege.
