ROVEWORKS CAMERA hands the exposure, the colour and the focus back to you. Instead of stacking several frames to smooth a scene out, it records the single frame that existed the moment you pressed the shutter — the way a camera used to. MANUAL CONTROL Turn the dials at the left and right edges to set ISO and shutter speed. Each dial shows only the values your iPhone can actually produce. A three-lamp viewfinder meter tells you where you stand: left for underexposed, right for over, green for right on. RANGEFINDER FOCUS The patch at the centre shows the live image twice, split apart. Turn the half-circle dial around the shutter until the two overlap. Runs on LiDAR distance data, on the wide lens. FILM LOOKS, BEFORE THE SHOT Twelve film looks render live in the viewfinder through Metal-based 3D LUTs. The colour you see is the colour that gets saved — no picking a filter afterwards. TWO FILES, ONE SHUTTER A HEIF or JPG with your look applied, recorded in Display P3, and a Bayer RAW .dng with nothing applied at all. One to share now, one to reinterpret later. EVERY LENS Ultra-wide, wide and telephoto on the back, and on iPhone 17, both front focal lengths. Each lens is read at its own native sensor area, so nothing is cropped away that shouldn't be. WHY 12MP On iPhone, a 48MP image has to be assembled from several frames, and that process overrides the exposure you set. We don't stack frames — so rear files are 12MP. You give up the number and get back a picture that matches what you saw. FREE Manual ISO, shutter speed and light meter. Three film looks. White balance, tone curve, grain, sharpness. Turn it on in Settings → Exposure → Exposure Compensation. When enabled, a ±3 EV zone opens around the A mark on whichever dial is currently set to auto. If you used exposure compensation before this update: it is off by default in 1.5. Switch it on in Settings to get it back. Any previously saved compensation value is reset to 0. Fixes - Photo viewer — the image no longer shifts or briefly shows the wrong proportions when you rotate the device. - Photo viewer — a neighbouring photo could flash on screen during rotation. - Photo viewer — rotating while zoomed in left the photo misaligned. Zoom now resets cleanly before the rotation. - Photo viewer — pinch-zooming with the info panel open made the image shake. Zoom is now properly disabled while the info panel is open. - Photo viewer — a pinch-zoom would occasionally snap back to 1×. - Camera — the gallery thumbnail now refreshes when you return to the app, so a photo you deleted in the Photos app no longer lingers there. Performance - The photo viewer performs far less redundant layout work while idle. ### 1.4 — 2026-08-19 Exposure Compensation - New ±3 EV compensation, in 1/3-stop steps, built right into the dials — no extra menu. Turn a dial past "A" and the compensation scale is there. - Compensation lives on whichever dial is automatic, so the manual dial always stays exactly where you left it. - The current compensation is shown in the top readout, so you never shoot with a forgotten offset. Fixes - Exposure mode labels now follow the standard P / S / A / M convention. S and A were previously shown the wrong way round. - Fixed a case where the preview could go completely white in semi-automatic mode and not recover. - Fixed compensation being silently cleared when switching modes. - Dials no longer jump or snap back when dragged across the "A" mark. ### 1.3 — 2026-08-14 Finer manual control and a faster way back to your photos. - Shutter speed now moves in 1/3 stops, matching the ISO dial — 1/8000 through 1" with the full conventional scale. - ISO extends to 10000 on the main camera. - Tap the thumbnail to jump straight to your latest shot. Swipe down to return to the viewfinder. - Added a Lock Screen and Control Center control for faster camera launch on iOS 18. - Fixed accidental shutter release near the bottom edge in portrait. ### 1.2 — 2026-08-12 Front camera, the right way up On iPhone 17, photos taken with the front camera were saved rotated. They now come out upright on every device, in every orientation. Front photos are no longer mirrored The saved image now matches the RAW file, and the writing in your frame reads the way it did in front of you. The viewfinder still mirrors, the way a mirror should. A second front focal length iPhone 17 gains its 21mm front lens alongside 23mm. Tap the lens indicator to switch. Ultra-wide, edge to edge The black band down the left of ultra-wide photos is gone. The sensor's masked margin was being read as picture. A closer viewfinder Preview brightness now tracks the saved photo far more closely, across scenes and across devices. Gallery stays current Photos deleted elsewhere no longer linger in the gallery, and sharing a large selection no longer stalls.
