### 3/5 — Great app, premium is too expensive

*2026-08-28*

150$ or 30 a year for premium on a mobile app is very unreasonable, especially considering that the old app was far cheaper. I would’ve stayed there, but it hasn’t been updated in a long time, and is now unusable. What is offered for premium is extremely minuscule relative to the price. I personally would’ve preferred to spend 10 dollars for the app upfront, and I feel that is far more fair than what is currently offered

### 3/5 — Cool app

*2026-04-09, version 1.1.1*

Great app, super useful... unfortunately uses generative AI for the monster photos and endorses the use of it. This kind of AI does not belong in fantasy!!

### 4/5 — Fantastic app but folders pls

*2026-01-19, version 0.10.1*

This app is the objectively the single best dnd app to exist. The only thing I wish is that you could put the character sheets into folders.

### 4/5 — Artificer

*2026-01-13, version 0.10.1*

Hey I like the new app so far, allot of 5e stuff is missing from 5e and I’m waiting for artificer to be put in 5.5 because they released that a while back.

### 4/5 — Good app, but could definitely use some improvements

*2026-01-12*

The great thing about this app is that it has pretty much most of all the items, stab blocks, etc. But there is one thing that is quite bad, the character creator. The creator doesn’t show you some stuff, for example, when I was creating my cleric, it didn’t once showed me the divine orders, so I had to manually add the spells and manually add to arcana and religion. So, overall, it’s a great app to look up something, but not a very good app to create a character in.

### 5/5 — Artificer please :3

*2025-12-27, version 0.10.1*

I would be really happy if you add artificer to the class list please.

### 4/5 — Good App just needs improving.

*2025-12-05*

Actually a pretty good app. My biggest concern however did occur with this app and I hope it gets adjusted to be able to accomplish this.

I tried to make a Celestial Warlock and to my knowledge it gets access to Cure Wounds amongst other spells that Warlocks don’t commonly get.

But no amount of filtering helped me select cure wounds and the other needed spells it gets up to lvl 5.

And I imagine this would occur for other sorts of subclasses as well.

Now, you CAN create spells but as you can imagine that’s kinda annoying and the inconvenience defeats the purpose of using a builder in the first place.

But this app has a lot of potential.

It does have ads but they aren’t invasive as so many other apps. Keeps it free.

I look forward to this app getting updates tbh.

**Developer response:** Hi! You should be able to access those spells simply by removing the "Warlock" filter when searching for your spell. Just tapping on the search bar and pressing the X on the Warlock filter should do the trick. Hope this helps! Please feel free to email me at feedback@blastervla.com if you have additional questions or need help. I'll be happy to lend you a hand :)

### 3/5 — Good but needs work

*2025-11-17, version 0.8.7*

All my monk unarmed and weapon attacks have modifiers based on strength instead of dex, which is the new class standard as per the dnd 2024 version. I want to use the app but this makes attack rolls and damage calculations confusing. A change here would change my review and make me pick this app back up.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2025-11-12, version 0.8.7*

The app is great, it feels easy to use and the homebrew creator is great. I recommend using this to my party

My only complaints are

1. I can’t find resources for pre existing repositories

2. There is not an easy way to port homebrew from 5e companion app without making it manually

Overall great app and I recommend it. I hope that as new content comes out like a new book or UA the dev will keep adding to the list of content.

### 5/5 — Excellent App

*2025-11-06*

Firstly, this is the best character sheet app I’ve seen in terms of manual entry/homebrew support. I use a ton of HB at my games, so it’s awesome to be able to add classes, features, etc.

Quick Suggestions/Requests: It would be awesome if Weapon Masteries were a “Select X” feature where you could pick weapons from the Weapons db to be a master of. That way the Weapon Masteries feature would list the weapons that you chose. Second, it would be awesome if you could select already existing class features when making a HB class. I can already tell I’m going to be sick of rewriting the Fighting Style, Weapon Mastery, and Extra Attack features by the time I’m done entering all my HB.

Best of luck with the development! Excited to see all the upcoming features!

### 3/5 — Downgrade from 5e companion app

*2025-10-21, version 0.8.7*

Missing features such as ability to filter spells by class and school. Interface not as pleasant

### 5/5 — Great 5.5e Resource

*2025-10-07*

After my initial review talking about how it didn’t make sense to spend so much money on subscriptions when all I want to do is remove ads, the Developer informed me that there is a remove ads option for only $10. That basically solved my only complaint as the app as a whole functions quite nicely, rarely encountered any issues while using. My only request that I can think of is a way to know just how many spells your character should know, as you have to google the spells known part of the character. Other than that the app is very well made and I can definitely see myself using it more and more as time goes on.

**Developer response:** Hi there! I completely understand. The reason for the price increase is that as an indie developer it's the only way I can offer things like cloud backups, as that requires me to pay for servers on a monthly basis. However, if you're only interested in removing the ads there already is a much cheaper option for that in the app settings :) Hope this helps!

### 5/5 — Awsome!

*2025-10-06, version 0.8.6*

I had previously complained about characters not getting deleted but they fixed it!! Super excited about the next updates

### 5/5 — Great 5.5e Resource

*2025-10-02*

Overall this is a fantastic application, my only issue is that for ad free you have to pay upwards of $126 dollars which is kind of absurd when 5e Companion was only like $5 in comparison. Along with that menus can be a bit choppy but that generally has already been fixed. Just give us a much cheaper ad free purchase option and I will gladly pay you, I just don’t want to pay for a monthly subscription or over $100 for it. However if you provided an option that purely got rid of ads for like $5-$15 dollars I would gladly buy that, the other options are just a bit much for features I personally will not use all that often.

### 5/5 — Solid but a tad confusing

*2025-10-01*

So for the average player, this is a great app. But as far as adding specific campaigns that don’t go off of the basic players guide, it’s a bit tough. I’ve been trying to play with my buddies in a crooked moon campaign, but I can’t seem to find Anything anywhere for the sub classes for that campaign. I know there is a repository for URLs, but it seems nowhere has what I need

**Developer response:** Hi Harry! I see what you mean. Something you could always do is add the subclasses yourself, you can do that right from the app. All you need to do is head to the orange section in the system you want to use, select classes, duplicate the one you want to update with the subclasses and you should be able to add them there! I know it's probably not the answer you were looking for, but it should be fairly straightforward to do, just a bit time consuming :)

### 1/5 — App no longer works

*2026-03-14*

Worked great for months but today it suddenly crashed and now refuses to open. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling with the offload option and restarting my phone in between but nothing seems to get the app working again. I’m hoping this gets fixed as I have been pretty happy with the app prior to today. -update: still not working. Dev reached out asking if latest update fixed this issue and it has not. It does manage to load the first screen but immediately crashes before any options can be selected.

**Developer response:** Hi Acanthaceae, I'm very sorry about that... I released a new version that should fix the issue. Please let me know if it works well for you, otherwise I'll keep digging. EDIT: thanks for confirming, and I'm sorry to hear that the update didn't fix it. Would you be able to tell me what device (iPad or iPhone) and what iOS version you're running on? That might help me narrow things down. You can send me an email to feedback@blastervla.com in case you don't want to put that information here

### 1/5 — Poor layout

*2026-02-23, version 0.10.1*

The layout is very tedious and unusable at times

### 1/5 — app crashes and refused to reopen

*2025-12-18, version 0.10.1*

i made a character for a campaign and part way thru the session the app decided to crash and never open again and if i delete the app i lose my character do not ever use this app to save important character information much less anything related to the campaign you are playing

### 1/5 — Just Bad Needs Work

*2025-05-28, version 0.4.0*

I was excited to make characters on this app but when I leveled up my spell slots were not updated, my class features weren’t updated after level 1 of each class, and my hp did not update correctly. This is a far cry from the performance of its predecessor the 5e companion and I’m honestly kinda confused why it wasn’t just updated to add 2024 content rather then make a clunky new app with all sorts of problems?

### 1/5 — A subscription to get rid of ads, really?

*2025-05-28*

When I downloaded the app, I saw the app had ads; I understand that this is a bigger project and it needs funding in order to keep getting updates and such. I have no problems paying to get rid of ads as long as it is a one time purchase. I was impressed by the 5e companion app and it proved to be an extremely useful tool for creating character sheets quickly. The in-app purchases made sense and I did not feel like I was being nickel-and-dimed unlike so many modern apps. I am extremely disappointed that the developers have chosen to go this route.

**Developer response:** Hi doggorino. I understand what you mean. The reason behind the subscription service is that the premium version now offers cloud backups. These are supported by servers, which I need to pay for every month, so I sadly would not be able to offer the app for a one-time purchase as cheap as the original was. I will, however, make sure to always include all core features for free, same way I did with the original application, keeping only extras like the cloud sync or cosmetics paid (and even then, offer the possibility to unlock with ads when possible, as I want to make the app as accessible for everyone as I can). Please let me know if you have any questions, you can always drop me a line at feedback@blastervla.com and I'll reply promptly

### 1/5 — Sad excuse for an “evolution”

*2025-05-26, version 0.3.0*

This app is the clunkier, unfinished version of 5e Companion. The fact that it is asking for a monthly subscription to customize things for less features then the original is very sad, and even though it is free to use, there is absolutely no reason to use this over 5e companion, other than if you want to play 2024 5e. The app doesnt even tell you what your abilities do before you choose them. Overall very sad and needs a lot of work to be called the “evolution”

### 2/5 — Help Needed

*2026-02-20*

I have been using this app for months, since last year around my birthday.
But, Wednesday night I tried to update the systems and resources, but I did not have internet connection, the update failed of course.
Nothing happened yet, but later while I was using the app it closed out.
Since then, whenever I open the app, it crashes and closes me out.
I’ve tried offloading the app and powering off my device, but none of it has worked.

**Developer response:** Hi Talen the Awesome, I'm very sorry about that... I released a new version that should fix the issue. Please let me know if it works well for you, otherwise I'll keep digging

### 2/5 — Bugs

*2026-02-16, version 0.10.1*

Bugs in the companion section. Makes it so you can’t delete companions, at three half the screen is greyed out and makes the companion section unusable

### 2/5 — Definitely not iOS/macOS designed

*2025-07-01*

I gave this a fair shot, seeing that it was one of the few apps out there that had the 2024 ruleset. I was hoping that it would work seeing that DDB expects you to re-buy books digitally if you bought them physically. Anyways, I digress…

The only real good here is that it does have the 2024 ruleset in it, and it seems complete!

The bad. It is using the Material UI and is probably a React Native or some other web-app-into-mobile architecture. Normally, I don’t have an issue with that, but when basic things (equipping armor, modifying HP or stats) are not working or hidden it ruins the whole experience. Then there was the character creation screens. I thought that the multiple screens was the correct call to make for this task, but it just looked jumbled together on my iPhone 13.

Also, especially since macOS (assuming they have Apple Silicon) can run iOS/iPadOS apps now; there should be no reason why this doesn’t run on macOS.

My suggestion is one of two things: either go away from whatever web-to-mobile tool you are using and pick a more modern one (and please go away from the Material UI, it reeks of Google), or use just straight Xcode, Swift, and Swift UI; your users will thank you.

**Developer response:** Hi nghtstr, thanks for your review. Basic things like the ones you mentioned should work, so please let me know if they don't and I'll fix it. From what I can see (and other fellow user reports) these are indeed working. The app also does run on macOS with Apple Silicon. Finally, the previous app (the 5e Companion App) was natively built. However, as an indie developer, I don't have the bandwidth to code everything twice. This is one of the reasons I switched over to Flutter, as it allows me to ship updates fast to both OSs without unnecessary reworks. As for the UI, I understand it might not be everyone's cup of tea, and that's ok. I personally don't see anything wrong with Material, but (as with other likes and dislikes), it's all subjective!

### 2/5 — Cool concept, Still needs patches.

*2025-06-11, version 0.4.0*

Loving the 5e companion has the 2024 rules attached to it. Would be happier if the app didn’t freeze because of the ads. I know asking for no ads is a losing game, so a patch to fix the freezing would be doable.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — easy to use

*2026-08-14*

It has easy character creation, and it doesn’t do everything for you. It has most items, and if not, you can create your own.
My own personal pet peeve. With cleric divine domain (Thaumaturge) in the feat magic initiate. It doesn’t give you an option to select spells or to keep those spells separate from your known spell less.

### 5/5 — Best free I can find

*2026-07-28*

I’ve tried dozes of character apps for dnd. To be honest this is hands down the best I’ve been able to find. Has just about everything in it no restrictions and iv make lots of characters with easy. The library to find info on things is easy to use as well and is quite helpful for figuring out characters items monsters and classes and how they work.

### 5/5 — Better than the old app

*2026-03-22*

This app has a very complete compendium and the combat system is so much easier to use and doesn’t delete your combats like the old one did and it’s less prone to crashing. All we need now is the rest of the content and the app to fully release.

### 5/5 — Finally a clear app

*2026-03-17, version 1.0.1*

Have been looking for an app that has character sheets with all the info and has all content and this is the one. Well done and thank you!

### 5/5 — Great App

*2026-03-12, version 1.0.1*

The app is great, it feels easy to use and the homebrew creator is great. I recommend using this to my party

Overall great app and I recommend it. I hope that as new content comes out like a new book or UA the dev will keep adding to the list of content.

### 5/5 — Love it

*2026-03-05, version 1.0.1*

Great app! Simple to use. Has , literally, all the classes and spells. Adding anything new or homebrewed is super simple. Each update l, LITERALLY, improves the experience.

### 5/5 — Unskippable ads?

*2026-02-20, version 0.10.1*

I don’t mind ads to keep the app free. Such a well designed app so far but if I want to level up I get stuck in a loop viewing ads for 30 seconds that don’t let me skip them!

### 5/5 — Great upgrade

*2026-01-29, version 0.10.1*

This new upgrade from the old app appears to have great potential to be even better then the original. The only gripes I have are that I would want the ability to roll stats in the character creation menu and that the numbers on the character sheets are little small and should be a little bigger.

### 5/5 — Fantastic for concise character info

*2026-01-08*

This little app, and it's predecessor have helped me flesh out around fifty ready to play DND characters with unique backstory, character concepts, and stats. It gives you so many options at your fingertips that you're bound to click on something, then just take that idea and expand on it until a character forms before your eyes. Great use of unearthed arcana, and lesser known subclasses also helps the creative wheels start turning.

### 5/5 — Best

*2026-01-07, version 0.10.1*

I’ve tried dozens of apps for dnd and this is the best that’s free for sure.
