What I’d like to see is a timer for random scrambles. I much prefer to just scramble it on my own and when I have tried to follow the suggested scrambles, they never turn out right anyway. So I just use the timer and ignore scramble patterns, but it would be nice to have an official way to do that. ### 4/5 — Good but few suggestions *2022-11-06, version 1.0.16* Okay this is a very cool app I use it to help me solve my Rubik’s cube but there is a few things. First I think you should add a 2x2 AR guide and other different levels of it. Second make the scan the cube easier it was really hard to scan it Third fix the stop watch it’s to complicated. I know this sounds like a lot but it will make the app easier. I love that times are logged and stored indefinitely. I would love if notes could be attached to past solve times/scrambles. Also, I’d love to be able to export the full list of my time data into any format for analysis. Overall a great app. ### 4/5 — Good App, Few Problems *2022-07-27, version 1.0.15* Ok I would give this a 4.5 if they let me but this thing is really good but small details make it a bit worse but not that bad. So I’m going to list them 1. Speed Solve Inspection No your not gonna get a world record of 2 seconds, this thing was not great and I tried to make my cube still for the thing to inspect but it “wasn’t registered right” or it needed to be frame perfect 2. Middle Layers Yea pretty obvious but on 4x4 and 5x5 you can’t turn the slices frequently 3. Easy Scrambles Sometimes it gives you easy scrambles after doing a lot of moves That’s it at the time I’m making this I have to leave so 2 and 3 are short ok bye ### 4/5 — Very good but with flaws *2022-05-11, version 1.0.15* Don’t get me wrong I love it, but the could add more types of virtual cubes (although these are not cubes) like megamix or pyramix but at least they have 3x3 2x2 and 4x4 my favorite cubes. Also I am someone who can solve a cube but when I tried the AR teacher for my family it would scan 2 sides then when I rotate the cube it restarts with that new side as the side to start scanning. ### 4/5 — Progress save? *2022-05-02, version 1.0.15* A progress save would be nice. I was halfway through a 4x4 cube and received a phone call. I had to exit the app to search for something while on the call. After the call ended and I opened the app, all my progress was lost. Another time I was almost done with a 4x4, a friend wanted to see me finish a 3x3. I leave the 4x4, open 3x3, complete it, go back to 4x4 and progress was lost again. Just frustrating to constantly start over. Maybe ask to resume last round/cube? ### 4/5 — Can’t Use Anymore *2022-04-07, version 1.0.14* Good app that I have been using for about a month, but it recently stopped letting me do anything. Tapping start now gives a message saying “This app requires an update to continue usage. Please contact Rubik’s Brand Limited for help.” However, I have the most recent version installed, and even reinstalled the app, but the message still appears. Please fix ### 5/5 — Virtual cubes are great! *2022-03-17, version 1.0.14* I’ve had this app for three days and I already love it! The virtual teacher works absolutely incredible as long as you go slow if you look at the algorithm and go ahead and do it if you know the moves then you’re out doing the virtual teacher and it just pretty much quits so try not to go too fast or it will stop. Another plus of this app is you are able to do 2 x 2, 3 x 3, 4 x 4 and 5 x 5 virtual cubes and for that function you don’t have to have a Rubiks brand cube you can just do it. Also another plus of this app is the cube timer works spectacular it gives you optional inspection time and everything it works just like a pro speed stacks timer like the pro cubers use and it gives you a scramble so that is really nice about it and I really like that and I hope Rubik’s can improve this app even more and I think it would be a really awesome app! Sorry for this being so long😅 ### 4/5 — Great, but missing a vital feature. *2022-01-30, version 1.0.14* And that feature is the OPTION to toggle the flashlight off and on. I have a Cube squares are pretty reflective, and the yellow squares are often mistaken for white or green. My success rate using the AR trainer in this app is maybe a fat 10%. The 90%, I give up because I get frustrated with the app for not having the option of turning off the flashlight. With the flashlight off, the colors are more accurately interpreted. But, because there is no way to trick the app into not utilizing the flashlight, I can’t really take advantage of nor enjoy this app for what it’s worth. When it works for my Cube, though, it works great. ### 4/5 — Have an option to turn off flash for AR cube *2021-12-30, version 1.0.14* First off, I love this app, I really like the timer/scramble function and the virtual cube (although it’s a little frustrating to control at times). My only big complaint is with the AR section. It always says that the environment is too bright and there’s too much glare on my cube, yet there’s no option to disable the flash on my phone to prevent that from happening. It’s incredibly frustrating because I want to use the AR but I physically can’t because of this. Thank you for making this app, but I feel like this one small change is necessary to improve it ### 5/5 — Update. *2021-10-05, version 1.0.14* Never mind 😅 it's working now. Thank you!!! Will there be an update that is available on iOS soon? Using multiple sites with crazy algorithms. Download this app and followed the steps and first time 20 moves and done. None of these left right upside down twist and turn 6 times. Before, I only knew how to get one face of the cube, but when I got this, it taught me everything step by step, and in 5 minutes, I actually got the whole thing! If I could, l would’ve given way more than five stars, but this one hundred percent 5 stars. ✨⭐️✨ ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Scanning is trash *2022-05-24, version 1.0.15* When I try scanning the thing for ar it scans like 2 sides and then when I try to scan the other side after the second, it just restarts the whole thing then I have to rescan and rescan and rescan and rescan it is very annoying. My arms are tired of so much turning and holding the cube for like 30 minutes straight trying to get this thing to scan it. Nah it just restarts it. I don’t know if it is my lighting but it is hard for me to scan it either when I am trying the teacher thingy or trying the solve thing. ### 1/5 — Currently unusable *2022-04-07, version 1.0.14* I’m sure this was a great app once, but unfortunately that is no longer the case. I downloaded this app today (4/7/22) and when I went to use it I was met with an error screen. “This app requires an update to continue usage. Contact Rubik’s Brand Limited for help.” I had downloaded the app not five minutes ago, but I double checked to make sure I wasn’t somehow missing an update for it. I even double checked my phone to make sure it was up to date. Nothing had an update waiting, but the app still tells me it requires an update. ### 1/5 — App needs updating *2021-09-03, version 1.0.13* Received a pop-up message at the start screen, advising me to contact Rubik’s Brand Limited regarding updating this app. Tried to uninstall–reinstall, but that did nothing. I also sent an email to earlier today, 2 September 2021, and am still waiting for a reply. I get a lot of use out of this app, in point of fact, I probably use it more than any other, with my native browser app (Safari) being a worthy competitor, and I use it to access cube wikis/forums to learn about parity cases and algorithms. ### 1/5 — Keyboard *2020-08-02, version 1.0.7(8)* Nice update. But please add a keyboard option to be able to key press turns instead of swiping. Swiping always turns the wrong layer or is just frustrating to use. A key button press is more accurate and intentional. The VR cube barely works. Does not recognize the cube at all. It’s either too far too close or the wrong angle. There’s never a correct position and no help to show exactly what you need to adjust. Lining up the cube to the exact position does do anything. You have to move away for it to start recognizing it but the angle is off. Or the cubie isn’t in the box because you have to keep shifting it. Why is this so difficult. There’s so many apps that do this on the fly. Shouldn’t be this annoying. Why is the VR such a pain to scan? It’ll take me less time to solve the cube than it is to scan one side! This app keeps getting worse and worse the more times I use it. I really want this to work. But it’s a fail every time I open up the app. Deleting. If you still continue to experience issues please contact us on https://www.rubiks.com/contact ### 2/5 — AR solver is really bad *2022-10-15, version 1.0.16* The only good thing about this app is that the graphics for the Rubik’s cube is superb and it’s convenient for when you don’t have a cube, but I have been trying to use the AR solver and It’s so hard to get it to focus, even if the cube aligns perfectly with the outline. It’s really frustrating specially for a beginner like me that doesn’t know how to solve it and the algorithms/diagrams online for solving it are confusing to read. ### 2/5 — Lot of improvements needed. *2021-02-25, version 1.0.12* The AR scanner is extremely hard to get a good scan with. I tried for an hour straight and it would throw me right back to the beginning. Also, I would hole the cube in the right spot and it just wouldn’t scan! The virtual cube was nice but it doesn’t feel right solving a cube by looking at the corner of a side the whole time and made it a bit hard to realize if I was doing a R or F move. The cube timer was nice and was easy to navigate and the count down at the end of inspection was a nice touch. Still a lot of room for improvement on the other features though. Maybe for the AR you should add a manual way to import the cube that pulls up a menu with the stickers and have it show the moves through a virtual cube and when they are ready for the next step they hit an arrow or something. As for the virtual cube, if it were made so you can look at a view you want from just about any angle that might be a good feature to add. ### 3/5 — Looking for the step-by-step *2023-01-10, version 1.0.16* Just downloaded your app today. It didn’t really have what I was looking for. What I wanted, was the step-by-step instructions and an easy to find place. The augmented reality, solver and virtual cube are fun, but not what I was looking for if you included the step-by-step directions, that would be really helpful. (Unless it was on there somewhere, and I just couldn’t find it…?) ### 3/5 — Bad info *2022-07-23, version 1.0.15* So the idea of the app is cool and I am excited to use it. However, the camera on the AI teacher mode defaults to the front and not self facing camera. This means I’d have to lean my phone up against something see-through, then put my hands with the cube in front of the phone to see what is being shown on the screen. Seems like adding a camera flip button or something in the settings that would change this would be an easy fix. If there is a way to change it, that would be great but I couldn’t find anything in the info section that tells how to do it. It would be nice if there was an FAQ section or something. ### 3/5 — Fix the camera *2022-07-05, version 1.0.15* Ok so basically the games cool and stuff but there’s one huge problem The camera So basically when I use the camera to solve my cube (it’s a 3x3) the camera just fails and says that it was on glares or I was not following the arrows but can you just change or just improve the camera system that would be very helpful (Side note) This is a problem with AR ### 3/5 — Good, but don’t trust it with your times *2021-10-05, version 1.0.14* In general, I like this app. I, like many others, was frustrated recently when the app inexplicably stopped working pending an app update. However, I assumed it would get fixed eventually and used a different app temporarily. Now it’s finally updated, but all of my times have been erased. The developers should reconsider the way user data is stored, and attempt to preserve it in a way that isn’t jeopardized by app updates. This app is still better than any others I’ve found, but be warned: you can’t trust it as the sole record of your best times. I had over 1000 solves in under a minute on the 3x3 cube. I’ve had it for 5 months and then it locked me out telling me that it requires an update to continue usage, however there is no update available. So now I am unable to use it. I really hope they fix this because I would like to be able to play again. I own a few physical cubes, too, but like the convenience of the app. ### 5/5 — Works *2023-05-26* Honestly I’ve only been looking for the algorithm and not the scanner. Rubik’s cube original website was shut down for whatever I know why, been searching countless websites for a algorithm like this that actually shows me the possible spots my 2x2 would end up in when I solve the white side and yellow side. Now I know where the algorithm sheets have been and am glad they still exist, the algorithm is the best tool to help you solve your Rubik’s cube as it well show you what positions your cube would end up in and how to move it without only seeing R or F. It will actually show you what direction to move your cube. If you don’t think these PDF’s/algorithms sheets help you then I don’t know what to tell you but they work. I spend to much time solving learning and practicing! Is a good app for pros and the amateur. Color crispy sharp moves its a really good app! Liked so far!!!! I buy a rubiks for learn when i don’t use the app. Also buy a mini to, but its to tiny.. i am going to buy the keychain that has no stickers but it’s not available for now… The app crashes now and then i want to be able to use pleeease😬!! ### 5/5 — Good enough *2023-01-01, version 1.0.16* It takes some getting used to, but it’s probably the best they could come up with for a 3d cube on a 2d screen. I taught myself how to solve it consistently, using a tangible cube, a couple months ago. I only use about eleven simple algorithms that I figured out over a couple hundred hours, off and on over the years (my first solve took me somewhere in the neighborhood of seventy hours about ten years ago). With this app, it takes me a little less than ten minutes. With a tangible cube, I average about three. So don’t be discouraged if it takes you a while. My first timed attempt on this app took me over an hour when a tangible cube was taking me an average of eighteen minutes. So whatever you average with the toy, you’ll probably be multiplying that by three or four to solve with this. So why do I use it? I can keep the sound off, and avoid annoying anyone around me. ### 5/5 — Official Rubik’s cube app is cool! *2022-09-03, version 1.0.16* Official Rubik’s cube app is cool! It’s like having multiple cubes with you whenever you want but only one at a time. I especially like the augmented reality part of the app and how good it is at solving all the different variety of tangible 3x3 cubes I’ve shown it so far.
