I’d give it 5 stars if I didn’t have to pay $5.99 per back issue and for special issues. Please fix. ### 1/5 — Great magazine ruined by a suddenly TERRIBLE app... *2017-07-28* Echoing the sentiments of other reviewers here. Rue Morgue is an excellent magazine to which I've had a digital subscription for years without major incident. Then suddenly, within the past 6 months or so, the app started acting like hot garbage. Constant (as in a near literal 99% of the time) freezes and/or crashes immediately upon launching the app make it impossible to even access any issues of the magazine. Sometimes, through a random combination of exiting and re-opening the app enough times, along with deleting and reinstalling the app two or three times in a row, then finishing off with a few soft resets of the iPad and maybe a hard reset for good measure... then, and only then am I given the opportunity to actually access, let alone read, an issue. And the whole time I'm reading, I'm waiting for an inevitable crash or lock-up, indicating it's time for me to do something else before I throw my iPad at the wall. The last 4 month's worth of issues have gone completely unread by me because the app makes it impossible. I hope this gets resolved somehow, preferably sooner than later. Until it does, I'm stuck with an unusable subscription to a great magazine. Sometimes I get to see the cover art for the latest issue, soooo.... So far, I am unable to log in, it freezes constantly and crashes. I've had a digital subscription for three years now, and never had problems until two months ago. I constantly have to delete and reinstall it to restore purchases of all the back issues, or to get the app to even respond after it opens. The main menu page will pop up, but is totally unresponsive. I was super excited about buying my first digital copy. Problem that I have is that the resolution will stay super low so I can never read the print. Hope u guys fix it. It still says I can’t read the magazine as I allegedly haven’t subscribed (I have). Email support dats ago, but no response, so clearly they aren’t interested. Scam app. ### 1/5 — Don’t use this app *2022-12-30* While I enjoy the magazine, this app is terrible. With the last update, I have lost access to both purchased and subscription issues. Further, after multiple emails to the in-app support, I have yet to receive any kind of response, I’m terminating my subscription. Even if I was to be understanding about app upgrade related issues (which I generally am, having been on the developer side before), the lack of response to multiple requested for assistance is not acceptable. Stay far away from this app. 2022 update. Went back after a year to check and see if the app was fixed and I could access my issues. Cannot. Still a terrible app. ### 1/5 — Ripped off ! *2022-05-08* I subscribed to digital Rue Morgue for a year and then renewed. Recently, I had to delete the app to correct some technical problems on my iPad. When I restored purchases, it recognized only my current subscription and NONE of the previous issues. I complained online with no response. Two weeks later, the app is updated after a years-long dormancy. I thought “Great! Perhaps this will fix my missing issues problem.” No. Just the opposite. Now the app will not only not recognize my past issues, it doesn’t recognize my current subscription either. I was only two issues in with four more to go. Now, I have ZERO issues from my subscriptions in my digital library despite paying for two years worth. Screw you, Rue Morgue. I’ll never subscribe again. UPDATE 07 May 2022: App updated two months ago. My digital library is still empty. My review stands. ### 1/5 — Horrible *2022-01-13* I signed up again and all my previous issues I had bought are gone. I can’t email anyone because I get an error message. I requested a refund through the Apple Store since I was ripped off. Don’t subscribe to this crap. ### 1/5 — Horrible service *2021-08-19* I subscribed and was very happy with the magazine. After l had to reinstall the app l lost all of my back issues- ‘restore issues’ was unsuccessful. I tried to email Matt’s but that failed too because my browser, Firefox, does not have JavaScript. So, all my issues gone. Don’t throw your money set! I tried emailing the fraudsters but even that returned an error. App is essentially unchanged since its inception. Support is unhelpful and just ignored once they realize they can’t do anything since the actual app is garbage. I emailed the magazine itself and actually got a personal response. Concerned for the trouble I was having ( which, by the way, it seems I'm not anymore ) and asking for details to help fix.
