### 4/5 — Run-Chicken door

*2026-07-13, version 3.2.2*

The door is great the app to use it is really aggravating to get in to

### 3/5 — App Update

*2026-06-19, version 3.2.0*

There are several features I like in the new app update, but since updating, the automatic door operation has become unreliable. I’ve had to reset the opening schedule numerous times, changing it from sunrise to a specific time, yet the door does not open consistently.
There have been multiple occasions were the door remained closed well past the scheduled open time. An example, this morning the app showed the door was set to open at 5:00am but at 6:15am the door was still closed and I had to manually open it.
I’ve also noticed the settings sometimes changes on its own and reverts back to light sensor mode. I hope this issue is resolved soon because it creates a concern for my chickens and now requires constant monitoring.
Aside from this, I’ve had no other issues with the app.

### 2/5 — Can’t connect

*2026-05-27, version 3.1.1*

I can’t get my door to open or close anymore according to a set time. Can we go back to the original app we used. The Bluetooth will not connect either. I have to go out every morning and evening to open and close the door. This is useless!! Help please.

### 3/5 — Door slowing down

*2026-05-27, version 3.1.1*

The door worked great, but now it’s slowing down and sometimes won’t open or shut. No obstruction when motor is removed door moves freely. But engibe is struggling. It’s been less than a year.

### 4/5 — Updated in app challenging but okay

*2026-05-06, version 3.1.1*

My original review was less for the recent update to the app which caused my XL door to reset and stay open. My XL is not Bluetooth and there did not seem to be a way on the update to reprogram it back to the timer setting. I sent an email and within two days received an instruction email to reprogram the old door. Worked perfectly. Much appreciated. I love there doors. I have two, one Bluetooth small and the XL. I’ve had them for a year. The only issue I’ve had with them is freezing during the winter. They freeze open or shut. Had to heat them up to be able to unstick them. Annoying but tolerable.

### 1/5 — Door doesn’t close automatically

*2026-05-04, version 3.1.1*

The app has an option to automatically close at sunset or a set time. It doesn’t close unless I walk out to the coop each evening and click close button on the app.
Customer service hasn’t been very helpful. Keep suggesting to allow location services, which are already amenable.
Very disappointing.

### 1/5 — Door Sucks

*2026-04-23, version 3.1.0*

Door sucks. I don’t like this bluetooth model. We have the older version with the automatic settings and a button to open and shut. That door is simple and a perfect design. We have so many problems with this stupid newer Bluetooth model losing.

### 2/5 — Bluetooth doesn’t work.

*2026-04-22, version 3.1.0*

I’ve had this door for over a year. Now in the app, I can’t even connect my phone to the door. I can program it, but I can’t connect.

### 1/5 — New App Brings Problems

*2026-04-21, version 3.1.0*

New version of the app installed automatically and now I can access any settings. Wants me to connect via Bluetooth and my doors are NOT Bluetooth enabled. Now what?!

### 1/5 — Cant get beyond editing my coop

*2026-04-21, version 3.1.0*

I’ve owned the Run Chicken door for 2.5 years without any issues. This app is a constant struggle to use. It locks up, and doesn’t respond when I try to use it.

### 1/5 — New update sucks

*2026-04-21, version 3.1.0*

There needs to be some way to get in touch with customer service with the new update I can no longer connect to my doors so I am stuck having to manually open them and the new one doesn’t even have buttons!

### 1/5 — Trying to force you to upgrade to their new model.

*2026-04-20, version 3.1.0*

I can no longer save my multiple doors and their programming schedule. They completely dropped support for their old models and now you can simply program the door but there is nothing to show you what the door is currently set to. Once these doors break, I will never buy a Run Chicken product again.

### 3/5 — Recent update seems to have messed up the connections

*2026-04-18, version 3.1.0*

After the update the app doesn’t detect not recognize either of my doors

### 2/5 — Useless for older model without Bluetooth

*2026-04-13, version 3.1.0*

Update: there is an option under the three bar menu called “older models config” but they need to to a better job of directing people to it.

Original review: App requires Bluetooth for models that don’t have it! My door is now useless! Will never purchase another product from this company!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — App sucks even worse now

*2026-09-02, version 4.0.7*

I keep on having to add my coop doors to this “updated”app. I have to go through this whole aggravating process just to change the time my door opens and closes every season. It’s like being punished for being a loyal customer that doesn’t want to update my already expensive coop door. Why not just update this app with the new stuff instead of making it harder for us original customers to continue using our doors.

### 1/5 — Auto door opener… sometimes

*2026-08-01, version 3.2.2*

Update…. Getting real real tired of looking at a cartoon chicken pecking the ground. I bought this for Bluetooth capability not any other connectivity Have yo manually push my doors shut it I want to go to bed because this app connects to the door 50% of the time. Yes I am annoyed. I’m not the only one. Fix it!!!!!

The latest update looks cool, but it takes forever, if at all, to open the app. I live on a farm. My cell signal where the doors are is very weak. But I bought these doors for Bluetooth not for cell signal. Right now we are opening and closing the doors manually with the open/close buttons until we get a skunk problem under control. And it’s a HUGE pain the have to walk around the waving the phone in the air to get the darned app to work so I can open the doors. If it’s not looking for cell signal then why does the app time out before becoming functional? It is also a hit or miss if my doors open or close all the way on any given day. As a result, we have to check them every night and morning anyways.

### 1/5 — DO NOT BUY

*2026-06-30, version 3.2.2*

This app is absolutely terrible. Do you live on a farm because you have chickens? Probably. Do you have great cell coverage? Probably not. Does this app time out looking for an internet connection? Of course. Can you use the app when this happens? Of course not. What are your options? Find cell coverage to open the app. Does it need internet to control the door? No. Why do you need cell signal to use the Bluetooth option? Great question. Very very very disappointed. Fix your app. Fix it. Just stop forming a reply and spend that energy fixing your app.

### 1/5 — Do not buy

*2026-06-04, version 3.1.1*

App doesn’t work well. Plus NOBODY wants to use their phone when they’ve been handling birds… how UNSANITARY. BRING BACK THE PHYSICAL BUTTON TO OPEN/CLOSE THE DOOR. NOW!!!!!!!! It shouldn’t take 7 times to get your app to open properly so i can close the door manually. BRING BACK THE PHYSICAL BUTTON. This app is garbage.

### 1/5 — Overcomplicating a simple concept

*2026-06-03, version 3.1.1*

I have two doors that are not Bluetooth compatible. Now the link in the app to the old method of programming is broken so I can’t program my doors anymore. Why don’t have to screw up something that was working just fine?

### 1/5 — Can’t configure door

*2026-06-02, version 3.1.1*

Since they changed the app the older non blue tooth doors cannot be programmed.

### 1/5 — Do not buy

*2026-05-21, version 3.1.1*

App doesn’t work well. Plus NOBODY wants to use their phone when they’ve been handling birds… how UNSANITARY. BRING BACK THE PHYSICAL BUTTON TO OPEN/CLOSE THE DOOR. NOW!!!!!!!!

### 1/5 — No longer functional

*2026-05-14, version 3.1.1*

I used to be able to connect to my door using Bluetooth with no internet connection required. After the app update, I can no longer do this. I don’t have cell service or WiFi at my coop. I have no way to connect to the door now.

### 1/5 — An app? Really?

*2026-05-13, version 3.1.1*

Even worse it’s an app I have to log in to utilize? What clown world nonsense is this? I’m not using the app and I’m not buying anything else from this company until these types of shenanigans stop. The app is fine as an alternative but not as the only means of use.

### 1/5 — RUN-CHICKEN Bluetooth door

*2026-05-10, version 3.1.1*

I really loved my original RUN-CHICKEN door. I had to replace the mechanism due to normal wear, and the new one with all of the fancy Bluetooth features is unreliable. Every once in a while, it has an update or kicks me off and I lose a chicken or two.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Sweet!

*2026-09-02, version 4.0.7*

Works like a dream!

### 5/5 — I have three automatic.

*2026-09-01, version 4.0.7*

I like them, but I don’t like the new version to where you don’t have a button to automatically just go up and push it. so that it opens without you have to get into the app .You actually have to get into your phone to do all of it when it gets dusty and dirty out they sometimes don’t open or open up halfway, so definitely have to clean them a lot more than the other version. I’m not for sure why that is but they are a time saver.

### 5/5 — Chicken coop door

*2026-06-14, version 3.2.0*

Great product and a great company.

### 5/5 — Poor new engineering and customer service.

*2026-05-29, version 3.1.1*

They removed the manual button so reliance on your phone and app are mandatory making the chicken door much less functional for realistic farm work.

### 5/5 — New app still works with old T50

*2026-05-13, version 3.1.1*

Thanks to run-chicken’s support email I was informed that the old way of programming through the light sensor can still be accessed under Menu > Older Models Config.

### 5/5 — LOVE this door!

*2026-05-12, version 3.1.1*

Chickens do too. Safe at night and I don’t have to rush out to put them in at night or let them out in the morning. No issues at all since install, it’s been 6 months with temps from 10 degrees to 90.

### 5/5 — A game changer!

*2026-04-10, version 3.1.0*

Love love love this door!!!Plus, the app makes it so easy to customize.

### 5/5 — I couldn’t program the T50 door with light sensor until using a different device.

*2025-10-17*

I hadn’t been able to reprogram our T50 door (with light sensor) after replacing the batteries and it wasn’t working right. I tried a dozen times with different settings, different fresh batteries, screen brightness, waiting longer, blowing the light sensor off, etc etc, just wouldn’t program with the flashing sequence. Their “common issues” section mention using a different device because of incompatible screen refresh rates. I didn’t want to bother because I’m almost 100% positive I programmed this door in the past with the exact same iPhone Xs (we’ve had the door for years without issue). I grabbed my old iPad Pro 10.5, downloaded the app, redid the programming sequence and boom… first try, the door programmed.
So yeah, I guess this screen refresh rates does matter and either my memory of using the iPhone Xs is wrong or the latest iOS update changed something that tweaked the device’s refresh rates.
Anyhow, there are negative reviews here that seem somewhat legitimate (I wouldn’t want notification ads, or the inability to program of course), but I’m not experiencing any of these issues. I also only open this app a couple times a year for programming… anyhow, in my case, I was starting to get frustrated and disliking the system, but my solution was written directly in their “common issues” section, even though I didn’t want to believe that was the issue.

### 5/5 — 5 stars!!!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

*2025-10-16*

I honestly don’t understand why the rating is so low. I’ve already bought three RUN-CHICKEN doors, and all of them work perfectly! The app is easy to use and connects smoothly. The sunrise/sunset auto open-close feature is super convenient — of course it needs location access for that. Everything works as it should, and the updates keep improving stability. Great product and great idea, thank you!

### 5/5 — Marlin

*2025-10-15*

I absolutely love my chicken run door. It is such a comfort to know if I get home late my chickens are safely locked in their home away from the predators at dark. I love how I can set the times even if for some reason I need to keep them in all day! Gone are the days where I have to go out in the dark and shut up the chickens! Thank you for this product!
