## What is RunCadence Mobile?

RunCadence was developed by two physical therapists to help the running community apply step rate to running via real time step rate notification and metronome. RunCadence App accesses the HealthKit on your IOS device that you already use and enjoy.

Cadence refers to the number of steps per minute (spm), and is a simple metric to help runners reduce their step length to help reduce the shock of impact at landing. Over the past few years, studies have emerged that highligh the role of cadence to correct common running related injuries (RRIs). As little as a five percent increase in step rate, while keeping running velocity constant, has been shown to reduce shock absorption at the level of the knee by 20 percent. Additionally, increasing cadence by 10 percent above preferred leads to a wider step width and a more level foot placement, which can afford distinct benefits for runners regardless of foot strike pattern.

Start using RunCadence to get more in tune with your running. While no shortcuts or “hacks” to running exist, gait retraining using cadence is the next best thing.

We encourage runners to go through the one-minute baseline test under “TEST” to determine your unique cadence.Upon completion, you’ll receive cadence values of +2.5, +5%, +7.5%, and +10% above preferred, which are meaningful values based on scientific consensus. These values can then be used as targets during training.

Let us help you take the next step.

Disclaimer: Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. **For use on iPhone 6 and newer.

### 1/5 — Bad, not worth it

*2019-04-11, version 1.0.3*

This app is lame. Sure, it works on your Apple Watch, but if try to switch over to your music, the app stops. There’s no history to see how you did over time. I never felt any haptic response. If I could give it zero stars I would.

### 1/5 — High hopes...

*2019-02-21, version 1.0.3*

It seems the developer has abandoned this app. It hasn’t had an update in over a year. I am fairly tech savvy, so I began using RunCadence thinking I could apply the correct permissions required to make it work right. Unfortunately I cannot make it work either. I would really like for this app to work right because it is exactly what I need. I am willing to work with the developers to get things setup right however I do not see any options for support.

### 1/5 — Erratic

*2019-01-09, version 1.0.3*

I gave access to all my health data on my iPhone, but just as other reviews said, it would start and stop erratically. Very confused.

### 3/5 — Limited use

*2018-12-25, version 1.0.3*

It doesn’t provide me with beat to sync my run. Since many running apps can used with watch alone without the iPhone, this app would be useful if we can get tempo beat through headphones connected to Apple Watch. Until then this app is off no use. You have free running apps which tell your cadence during and after run.

### 1/5 — Frustrating app. Stops beeping randomly mid-run.

*2018-12-09, version 1.0.3*

Just trying to get it to beep at 180bpm and stops working mid-run then starts up again at random beep pattern and stops again. Absolutely useless and frustrating.

**Developer response:** When the app first starts you have to give permission for the app to access the health data on the iPhone. Without the access to Healthkit the accelerometer will not be giving information to the RunCadence app. If you miss this warning upon opening the first time you can go under settings and allow RunCadence the necessary permissions.

### 5/5 — Works great, very useful for injury prevention

*2018-11-07, version 1.0.3*

This app works great! I use it to reduce my running injuries by keeping a high cadence.

You need to grant it full access to the Health app in iPhone. That’s why I guess it didnt work for other people.

### 1/5 — Wanted to Like It

*2018-01-10, version 1.0.3*

Started the app, gave me cadence, heart rate and distance. Stopped to check, said Start Run. No workout saved, no data, no way to stop the app. I guess I’ll go back to a proven app.

### 1/5 — Doesn't work on iPhone 7

*2017-07-22, version 1.0.3*

I just tried this and it doesn't work on my iPhone 7. Always says cadence is 0 spm. Tried the test feature and run settings and neither works.

### 5/5 — PT & Runcadence

*2017-04-04, version 1.0.2*

While rehabbing a hip injury, I used RunCadence to increase my steps per minute. In conjunction with physical therapy (with Chris Johnson @ ZerenPT), I'm back to running pain free 🏃🏻‍♀️👍🏻

### 5/5 — Great app for recreational runners

*2016-11-12, version 1.0.2*

I really like this app. Clean appearance and easy to use. Keeps track of cadence, distance, and time. Alerts the runner if they are running outside of their desired training cadence. Great app for injury prevention!
