### 2/5 — Cancelled and was still charged. No response

*2024-08-08, version 5.8.30*

I cancelled my membership before the end of the membership year. My payment method was still charged. I reached out on 2 occasions with no response or acknowledgement. However, they are quick to market to you.

Quite honestly I feel that this application is on cruise control. I graduated away from Garmin to Coros and this app does not integrate. The interface or UX is very 2012.

McMillan Running is way better.

### 2/5 — Feels Like It’s in Beta

*2024-06-20*

I used this app to train for a marathon and the app constantly felt like it was in beta. Clunky, poor flow, poor functionality with a lack of thought around how training data is input and useful. Perhaps it’s better for people who run with their phones but for runners who don’t, it’s more or less no better than a notebook with a pen.

Additionally, I felt like the “coaches” they have never actually read my messages. I’m not the best runner ever, but I have a significant background in it and understand training styles and methods. I tried to make it clear up front so I could connect better with the coaches but they gave me what seemed like pre-typed answers or just failed to even read what I wrote.

Finally, they don’t make it clear that changing baseline training data can change your training cycles. When it happened to me they made me feel like I was the idiot who didn’t know what was going on. Which was ridiculous in itself. Why would someone make an app to change training cycles in the middle of a cycle?! The data set shouldn’t be editable when you have a race scheduled in the app.

Anyways, this app has potential, but has a long, LONG way to go.

### 4/5 — Coaches are great.

*2024-03-30, version 5.8.29*

I signed up via NYRR and was really happy with my plan. The coach was great and very responsive to my messages.

The app itself is a little buggy and doesn’t offer the greatest interface, but the content is solid.

Ultimately, the coach and custom plan are where the value is, and I was really happy with both.

### 2/5 — App inconsistency

*2024-02-26, version 5.8.26*

The app has pretty good plans however, it is not very good at tracking you during training. It often lags or will say you ran less miles than you’ve actually run. I cannot rely on the app alone during training. I’m forced to use either an Apple Watch or Nike app to track how many miles and minutes I am actually running. Would y recommend purchasing to someone training for a race due to these issues.

### 4/5 — Widgets (Update)

*2024-01-24*

I have used this app for 4 years now. Have subscribed before. It was good on subscription. Even when my subscription ran out used to like the plan it generated and weekly goal tracker.

I wish the price would be tired for features instead of a lump sum.

I also request a widget which can show you your weekly calendar and runs you ran and supposed to run, at least for the premium version.

**Developer response:** Thank you for the feedback.

We did move the syncing and the weekly emails to Premium features only due to rising costs of data hosting and management.

Your weekly goal tracking should still be accessible via the FREE Runcoach app. If you have any issues on weekly goal tracking, please reach out to me via info@runcoach.com.

### 4/5 — Very good but needs better interface

*2024-01-12*

Tried other coaching apps, but this has worked the best for me. The only issue I have is that the interface during a training run isn’t really designed for older people. Instructions for the segment are in small light blue type that doesn’t contrast well with the background. And it would be nice to see what the next segment is (like you can in Intervals Pro)

**Developer response:** Thank you for the feedback.

We plan to address this in the next 90 days with a dark mode view option which should enhance the contrast.

Keep up the good work with your training!

### 3/5 — Updates changed the app

*2023-12-20*

Used to be a great app for simply tracking your runs / workouts and having a simple plan to follow. (Run 5 miles today). It had real value before they switched to a subscription model just to be able to sync your device. With all the other option out there it doesn’t seem worth it anymore. I can understand subscription if you’re looking for guided workouts etc. I would recommend they move to an ad based model for casual users who just want a simple marathon plan and a place to track workouts that makes sure they are following the plan without having to manually enter everything.

**Developer response:** Thank you for the feedback.

We did move device sync to a Premium feature because of rising costs on the data hosting and management side.

You can still create a training program with a personal program and paces via the Runcoach FREE version.

I appreciate you training with us. All the best with your running in 2024 & beyond!

### 2/5 — Buggy!

*2023-06-09, version 5.8.11*

The app is so buggy. It often won’t open at all, and gets stuck on “we’re warming up.” To pay over $100 for a program to train for NYC marathon, I am very disappointed. I like the plan when I am able to open it so I will continue to use when it will open.

### 2/5 — Poor First Impression

*2023-06-06*

I was provided free access to the app through an upcoming marathon. It is impossible to adjust days of the week for specific activities - what if I don't want to do my cross training on the days forced upon me? Why can't I include more recent race times to better reflect my current status/fitness? I was under the impression that the app/program was a real coaching experience and not just an algorithm deciding workouts. Will likely delete the app and abandon the program.

### 3/5 — Good coach feedback but very glitchy

*2023-05-22*

Been using this for a few days now and pretty impressed with the feedback from the coach. I was planning on purchasing a subscription once my free trial is up, but the app itself has been glitching the last couple of the days to the point that I have not even accessed my training calendar. At first, it was a login issue and then this morning when I was finally able to log in, I still couldn’t see my training plan and when I try to hit the Coach button, the whole app crashes. Very frustrating. That said, not sure anymore if I will proceed with the subscription. This app is good in theory, but if you can’t get it to work, then there’s really no point.

### 2/5 — Was ok until recently

*2023-05-22, version 5.8.10*

Not the best app in terms of ease of use and development.
But coaching wise I found it very useful.
This has the potential to be excellent but needs a rework. Until the past few weeks it worked very well now. Now I have continued issues with it.

### 4/5 — Improved Running

*2023-05-16, version 5.8.10*

Love the workouts and have seen a lot of improvement in my running. App has been crashing/unavailable a lot lately, which is frustrating, but coach is generally quite responsive when this happens. And now I’m wondering if it’s an iOS update issue more than a RunCoach issue?

### 1/5 — Bad UI and UX - not worth the $

*2023-05-10, version 5.8.10*

This app is incredibly glitchy and difficult to use. Crashes often. Doesn’t integrate well with Strava (my runs never seem to load into the app). Sometimes you can log workouts manually and other days it doesn’t let you unless you record the run in app. Just not worth the $100+ I spent on it for a marathon training plan. Wouldn’t recommend

### 2/5 — Outdated and Clunky

*2023-04-15*

Training plans are not dynamic. Miss a week or two due to illness or injury? Too bad, the app still expects you to continue as if you dominated all workouts.

Training plans allow for no flexibility. You cannot swap scheduled workouts. For more complex workouts where the in-run audio tells you what to do (e.g., speed workout), you can only receive this guidance if you run the workout on the scheduled day. Can’t go back two days later and still receive the audio guidance.

App looks 10 years old, is clunky, slow, and has more than a few glitches. Plus no route mapping capability. Lame all around.

### 1/5 — Not great

*2023-03-06, version 5.8.6*

Automated and does not take into account activities that are not prescribed. Also does not seem to adjust based on improvements in fitness.

### 2/5 — Buggy and outdated

*2023-02-03, version 5.8.6*

The app is very buggy, slow, and outdated. Coaching is reactive and done through a simple bot and the training plans don’t seem to adjust.

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2022-10-22, version 5.8.2*

Terrible app. Automated plan. Was not customized for me. Coaches did not look at my data or fix my plan after. The app does not take into account other runs if it’s not what it prescribed.

### 2/5 — How is this rated well?

*2022-09-09, version 5.8.2*

Not sure how this app has received such high ratings. It’s outdated. Slow to load. Buggy. Not easy to delete unwanted data (multiple steps to delete). Integrates poorly with Apple Health (adds my daily steps to the log… even when I turned off permissions to read steps). The coach is not proactive, only chats if you initiate it. The only useful thing is the recommended log for distance and pace, but not worth the app for just that.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Disappointing

*2024-09-14, version 5.8.31*

Really disappointed in this app and coaching program. I used it last year to train for my first marathon and found it useful and user friendly. Signed up again this year for another marathon training block and find it really glitchy, takes forever to update content, and lacking the coaching interface that I experienced last year. Would not resubscribe, unfortunately.

### 1/5 — Relentlessly inflexible

*2024-02-28*

I was initially excited about this program, but am now extremely frustrated, and there doesn’t even seem to be a way to cancel the service. They give you these little green checkmarks if you complete a run, but… do your long run on a Monday instead of Sunday? Fail. Skip your rest day on Monday? Fail. Do your daily miles over two runs instead of one? Fail. Any spontaneous interaction with your assigned coach? Nope. I tried to give feedback through the system, couldn’t reach anyone who could actually help. This app and expensive program made me hate running.

### 1/5 — Subscription price and features

*2024-01-06*

I have used this app for 4 years now. Have subscribed before. It was good on subscription. Even when my subscription ran out used to like the plan it generated and weekly goal tracker. But now the price is ridiculous. And on free version there is no more weekly goal tracking. Not cool. Now I am looking for other apps and there are so many good apps out there. My review is to see if this feedback helps the app improve your subscription model. If you want to make money make it a tiered approach. If coaches are costly make them a separate purchase. Don’t remove syncing capabilities or weekly goals updates all together. You will loose customers.

### 1/5 — Subscribe to sync

*2024-01-02, version 5.8.22*

I use to be able to sync my Strava data on the free service. You are now forced to subscribe or only get basic info to read through the app. Super disappointing and will be looking for something else to use.

### 1/5 — Charges users to sync?

*2023-10-29, version 5.8.15*

I’ve used this app for 3 years. Just came back from an injury hiatus to find out they now want you to pay 200$ a year for me to sync my device?! No thanks. Apps and streaming services are getting so out of hand with all the monthly fees for services that used to be free.

### 1/5 — Removed features to subscription

*2023-10-25, version 5.8.15*

Previously free features like health sync or device sync (Strava, etc) have been moved to a subscription. I’ll be leaving this system behind and looking elsewhere.

### 1/5 — Keeps Crashing - disappointing

*2023-10-13, version 5.8.14*

I’d love to use this (and used to use My Run Plan, which had the same basic features) but the app keeps crashing after login. Hard to use if it won’t stay open.

### 1/5 — Can’t switch between miles and km?!?

*2023-08-24, version 5.8.12*

I’m using the paid version of the app and when I toggle between miles and km my entire program resets. The advice I got from the paid “coach” is to not adjust the settings. This seems like a pretty basic feature for a running app!

### 1/5 — Run Coach

*2023-07-04, version 5.8.12*

Don’t waste your time, energy or money with this APP. I’ve tried a lot of APPS, and this is one of the biggest wastes I’ve encountered.

### 1/5 — Won’t let me sign in

*2023-05-22, version 5.8.10*

It won’t let me sign in. Keeps saying something went wrong please try again.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Took my running to a new level!

*2026-04-07*

My coach (Alex) helped me adjust my training schedule and did it from my run times and input on how I felt. Well worth the yearly subscription compared to hiring a coach in person. He gave me super helpful tips and was able to meet with me virtually when I signed up.

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2022-11-26, version 5.8.2*

This is a great app paired with your favorite running watch! Only recommendation is to have a feature where you can recover from an injury or pause the training plan. Other than that, love all the stats and data for the different training days.

### 5/5 — Solid training to increase endurance and speed!

*2022-01-08*

Have been very pleased with this app so far as it provides some great plans/drills to help me build my endurance and speed for my upcoming races. The app could use some polishing to look more exciting and modern, however the formula works very well. I have my run data from strava integrated and this is pretty effective. Do wish they would add some type of heart rate intensity details to the tracking and plans. Wanted to share some real feedback as there only seems to be complaining in the comments. This is solid and don’t think there are any other competitors.

### 5/5 — Great training plan and coaches

*2021-11-09, version 5.7.7*

Ran my first marathon at the age of sixty, and this app and the coaches got me thru the training and race injury free, at a minute under my goal time.

It’s the perfect combination of autonomy and assistance. You’ve got a plan to execute, but can get questions answered, and the plan adjusted any time you need it.

### 5/5 — Fantastic Coaches

*2020-10-12*

(Update) - Been using this app for more than six months and seen a lot of improvement. Definitely works for me. Even had a recent injury from another sport and my coach was able to adjust things so I didn’t lose a lot of my gains. Never thought I’d complete a 5k and I now feel like I could do a 10k easily. Decided, instead of month by month, to just go with the full year. Running has become something i really enjoy. Who knew?

I agree with Lepetitmont. I used Nike up until the pandemic. I never could get Nike to
sync right and it simply won’t adapt or even record runs sometimes. I have unlimited data so it’s an app issue. I got really upset when it seemed they were far more interested in pushing product than making the app work. I just did a search and came across RunCoach and decided to give it a shot since my regular training at my gym wasn’t possible and I found myself running more. Run coach is far superior. It has pushed me to reach goals I didn’t think I could reach. Highly recommend. I find it can even handle the split training which Nike made it sound like it was impossible. No more running with my phone in my hand. Worth it just for that.

### 5/5 — Great app but need to change blue color font as if is hardly visible in iOS dark mode

*2019-11-28, version 5.3.1*

The blue color font is hardly visible in dark mode on IOS

### 5/5 — App from experienced runners

*2019-07-14, version 4.1.3*

Run Coach is evidently created by runners it follows the common training setup. The ability to adapt makes it stand out from all other running apps and adjusts if a number of unplanned races come up. The settings allow me to adjust the plan to suit me. In the future I would to see the ability to add a 3rd workout to your week or double days as an experienced runner as myself is lookin for those in a training plan.

### 5/5 — Favorite training app

*2019-03-19*

I have been using runcoach now for 8 weeks. The free version. I’d previously used Nike app but found that frustrating, and at the time (this may have changed) it didn’t sync right with my Apple Watch, and I’d call Nike support... anyway I dumped the Nike app out of sheer frustration and just went back to logging workouts using the Apple Watch workout app which works, records everything I need...and this feeds into runcoach through HealthKit. And runcoach gives me the daily workouts based on my road race schedule, goal race, and fitness level. So I can improve fitness and speed while avoiding injury. Every now and then the app gets a little buggy, but the developers are super responsive so this hasn’t been an issue. I love it. It has really helped me, and motivates me to keep on target with training.

### 5/5 — The best out there

*2019-02-28, version 4.0.18*

Good marathon training app, the best around, fully customisable and adapts to your progress, The team have very kindly made tweaks to my schedule and pushed them out over the air . Very happy would recommend !

### 5/5 — Improving my fitness

*2019-02-22, version 4.0.18*

My current weight and general fitness level were taken into account by the app before a schedule was created for me to regularly follow. The app is very effective in helping you meet your fitness targets.
