When it comes to code, the feature set is ok. I subscribed to premium. I appreciate the one time purchase as opposed to subscription. The only feature I really want that isn’t included is a preview of the code. A side-by-side view, code/preview, would be awesome. ### 2/5 — Linebreaks copy paste bug *2026-06-09, version 1.6.1* Editor is inserting 7 additional linebreaks for each linebreak when copy pasting a section that includes linebreaks, needs fix. Also the app is very unstable(it became more so recently?), editing existing text almost always crashes the app if it involves multiple lines at once or is done too fast. Allows file creation. Allows file import. Autosave Con: (This is the reason I’m going to look for a better app) No way to view pages created! You have to upload your pages on your site to view and edit again, upload again. This gets old real fast! ### 5/5 — Thanks *2026-04-12, version 1.6.1* I use this almost every day as I format different files to adjust Ai instructions and now it's a direct replacement of the Notes App, for me. Apple is stupid for not making you an offer to have this be a direct extension of the Files App, operating within it, or the Notes App. Especially where they are slowing moving into making their devices more Ai compatible... You should approach Apple. I bet they would make you an offer. They don't have a native app to create file types really, and have only recently added Markdown functions to the Notes App. That would be dope if instead it said "Open File/Note in Runestone" I've noticed Runestone cannot open pre-existing files in the Files App, so I'm assuming Apple blocks that. Who knows, maybe you can just patch that 🤷🏻‍♂️ Either way, I love this app. I've built so much with it. Thank you for making it. I hope you can eventually get a recurring revenue option from Apple. Some needs, if the dev would please be so valiant: 1. Vertical text mode for CJK scripts, please! I know, not likely, but it would be very helpful and lovely. 2. Custom formatting and hinting configurations other than those packaged. Lisps! 3. Changing the font between different windows. This helps with certain languages. Tried manually saving, nothing. Closed the app and reverted all edits back to default. Absolute trash ### 1/5 — Sometines, it doesn’t save your document! *2026-03-08, version 1.6.1* After experiencing this for the second time, I had to delete this app from my devices, so I don’t make a mistake of using it again. It occasionally silently failes to save the document, even when you explicitly click on the Save menu. Surprise and terror when you open the document later. Avoid! ### 1/5 — Crash boom *2025-12-20, version 1.6.1* Tried a simple regex. Destroyed my file then crashed so I couldn’t undo. ### 1/5 — Very bad *2025-11-26, version 1.6.1* This editor doesn’t allow for and deleting stuff you have cut. When you copy and paste, it also adds seven carriage returns to the end of the each line so that you have to go through and delete them by hand. Imagine making it a premium feature to be able to quickly open a temporary empty text file, rather than having the app open to an empty canvas. The iOS App Store really needs an open source marketplace like F-Droid on Android, because perfect text editor apps exist for free in abundance, without dark patterns blocking basic functionality for profit. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Best Text Editor Around *2026-08-16, version 1.6.1* This app is such a bargain. You get a really good editor for free, or, even better, the perfect editor for just a few bucks. If there were a Mac version, it would be my default editor alongside vim. This app offers syntax highlighting for every file format I could ever need, even including LaTeX. And the interface, including the file browser, is clean and simple. However that editor has a big solid colour title bar that cannot be hidden. Once I tried Runestone I realized belatedly that I made a somewhat costly mistake. This app has a small non-intrusive title bar and the default theme looks good off the bat. I use Sublime Text and this looks similar when editing bash scripts. Even the Open File screen looks very slick. And it’s reasonably priced.
