## What is Running Groove?

Let the music move with your run.

Running Groove is a music player made for runners. Turn on RUN ON and it follows your running cadence, selecting music that fits your current pace. The tempo is adjusted smoothly while preserving pitch whenever possible, helping you stay in your rhythm and keep moving naturally.

Choose the feel that matches your day: Fresh Morning, Speed Rock, Electro Pulse, Pop Run, Night Mellow, Hip-Hop & R&B, or Cinematic Anthem. Original music made for Running Groove moves naturally from one track to the next, taking tempo, energy, and musical character into account. Song selection is also tuned to avoid repeating the same songs and the same order.

New songs can arrive without waiting for an app update. Songs are fetched to your device before they play, and songs you have already fetched play even without a signal. Running Groove tells you about newly added songs on the home screen and in the library, and you can set a limit on how much space fetched songs may use.

Pick how the tempo behaves: Follow adapts the music to your current pace. When you stop, it keeps showing your cadence from just before you stopped, and it follows you again when you start running. Fixed keeps both the music and the runner at a tempo you choose. An estimate of your pace per kilometer and your speed, worked out from your cadence, is shown while you run, and you can adjust your stride in five steps.

After a run in Follow mode, you see your average cadence for the time you were actually running. Time spent stopped, the moments around it, and values far from your usual are left out, so the number stays close to your real pace. The averages of your last 10 runs are in Settings.

With RUN OFF, Running Groove becomes a music player for any moment—not just your workout (it does not change the tempo, and songs play at their own tempo). Tap a song in your library to play it, press and hold to add it to a playlist, and play your playlists in order. The play history lets you go back, repeat one song, or shuffle.

You can also run to free music from Audius, chosen by genre (it replaces the original music while selected).

Before you start, the home screen shows a runner warming up and a short message for the day to get you in the mood.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.3.1 — 2026-10-29

- More scenery. Every category now has two backgrounds that change from run to run (new: a desert highway, a road through space, a summer festival, a night harbor, a steel bridge and a lighthouse coast)
- The weather changes too. Now and then you run through rain, a thunderstorm or fog, and snow falls in winter
- We checked the size of the runner against the road and redrew every background, so buildings, trees, cars and palm trees look more natural in size and number
- The tunnel now looks like a real road tunnel
- The scenery now scrolls at the pace of your walk or run
- Small display improvements and fixes

### 1.3.0 — 2026-10-28

Added Music Player Mode.
Switch between Run Mode and Music Player Mode to enjoy music outside your runs. View your playback history and upcoming tracks, and tap the waveform to seek. Repeat, shuffle, and repeat-one playback are also supported.

### 1.2.1 — 2026-10-18

Fixed some bugs.

### 1.2.0 — 2026-10-16

- Walking mode: at 90–145 steps per minute the runner walks and the meter turns green. Fixed mode supports it too
- Press and hold a song to rate it with 1–5 stars. Songs with more stars are picked more often; one-star songs less often. Ratings are counted per song in a form that cannot be traced to you
- In Fixed mode, tap (or slide along) the meter ring to set the tempo
- Songs now hand over to the next one more smoothly
- The runner's and the warm-up's movements are more natural
- Small display improvements and fixes

### 1.1.0 — 2026-10-14

- New songs can now arrive without an app update. They are announced on the home screen and in the library, where they carry a "NEW" mark for 14 days
- You can choose how much space fetched songs may use (Settings > Audio storage)
- Follow mode: when you stop, the meter keeps your cadence from just before the stop and changes color
- After a run in Follow mode, your average cadence is shown. See your last 10 runs in Settings
- RUN OFF is now a plain player in both Follow and Fixed: it does not change the tempo
- Song selection is tuned to avoid repeats, and more songs now fit your pace
- Stride is now adjustable in five steps
- The pre-run screen shows how many songs are ready and a short message for the day
- New warm-up moves for the runner
- Small display improvements and fixes
