### 3/5 — Disappointed

*2026-06-21*

Disaster, only maybe 3/4 runs get saved and the remaining 1/4 would get corrupted or los t some way or another.

### 4/5 — A solid start bound to improve

*2026-05-04, version 3.8.2*

Edit: Increased a star as the developer is very responsive and issued updates following my review. This has improved things significantly - I love the in-watch metronome toggle since I don’t usually run with my phone. Very excited at the prospect of things like run zones in the watch interface also, which will be wonderful for zone 2 running goals. Thank you!

Original review remains below 😎

=======

The phone app is well designed and easily navigated and I find the whole thing a great addition to my running.

Where I have issues and where I have deducted a star given the cost of the app is in the Runo watch app, since this is central to capturing and showing me data about my run as I go.

It’s great that there is a watch app at all, which does track my runs perfectly, but the app does not show any of the significant widgets found in the native Apple workout app (e.g. those available by default for Outdoor run), particularly things like heart zones, which are important to those paying attention to cadence — and while there is a heart BPM readout, it is so small it’s almost impossible to read while running, even on an Ultra II.

This means I need to use the Runo watch app in metronome only mode while I use the Apple workout app for data. While metronome only mode works on the phone just fine, it is not explicitly available in the settings of the watch app and setting it on the phone doesn’t seem to initiate it on the watch. How do I know? Well, pretty much as soon as I start the native workout app after setting up the Runo watch app, Runo crashes.

It would be amazing if the developer could look into setting up reliable metronome only on the watch, or even better allow some widget customisation so that users can select what key data readouts they want see while using Runo on the watch. With that in place the native Apple workout app won’t even be necessary!

### 4/5 — Sound issue

*2026-04-18, version 3.7.2*

Love the app but I noticed recently I’m unable to change my sound cadence from the original sound. Anyone else having this issue?

### 4/5 — Now requires location sharing

*2026-01-21*

I bought this app and paid the insanely high subscription cost just to have a metronome in my ear when I run. Great, fine, not happy but I did it. But now they dropped an update and it requires you to share your location with the app to function any more. No way around it. I’m sorry but I don’t want my location shared with some company I don’t know just to hear a metronome. Good luck with your app in the future.

Update: the developer responded and said that they released an update to allow the user to select metronome only mode. I appreciate their response and app update and have since updated my rating. Thank you dev for listening to your users. That is rare in this day and age.

**Developer response:** Hi, thank you for the feedback and sorry for the frustration. We completely understand — the metronome should work without requiring extra permissions.

Good news: in our latest update, we added a "Metronome Only" mode that works exactly like the original version. No health or location access needed.

To use it:
  1. Open Options
  2. Look for "Metronome Only" or "Simple Mode" toggle
  3. Enable it

This gives you the pure metronome experience you paid for, without any tracking features.

If you have trouble finding it or run into any issues, please reach out at support@runoapp.com — we're happy to help.

Thanks for your patience, and we hope this resolves your concern!

### 4/5 — Helped with Injuries

*2025-10-02*

This app helped me keep a consistently higher cadence and helped manage/present injuries due to longer strides. It would be 5/5 if it was available on smartwatches.

**Developer response:** Hi J Quinn, thank you so much for sharing this. We’re really happy to hear that Runo helped you keep a higher cadence and manage injuries from overstriding.

And good news: Runo is now available on Apple Watch. You can use it straight from your wrist on every run. We hope you enjoy it, and thanks again for taking the time to leave a review!

### 5/5 — Really helped me with my training!

*2025-04-23*

Using this metronome while running improved my pace while being able to listen to audiobooks in audible! :)

**Developer response:** Glad it’s helping you with your run! :)

### 5/5 — Thanks to runo I was able to run Tokyo and Paris marathons

*2025-04-22*

Thanks to cadence running with runo I was run two marathons, one after the other (March and April) with no injuries, and exceeding my desired time!!

**Developer response:** Let’s goooo 🏃‍♂️

### 5/5 — Pace improved

*2025-04-15*

Using this metronome while running improved my pace while being able to listen to audiobooks in audible! :)

**Developer response:** Glad it’s helping you with your run! :)

### 5/5 — Focus

*2024-09-28*

This helps me focus on my run so much better than listening to music or a podcast can. I’ve noticed myself running further than usual and because I’m so focused on the beat I’m not focusing on my pace and trying to go too fast. It’s keeping me in zone two much longer than before so that I can get my conditioning to a better level. Love this.

**Developer response:** Thank you! I’m delighted to hear that it’s helping you with your run. :)
Please let me know if you have any feedback!

### 5/5 — Pace improved

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2026-07-10*

You have to rate this app every single time you open it or try to use it. It won’t let you cancel within your free trial period and you’ll get charged. It doesn’t k keep one steady beat, instead you have to choose some sort of emphasis beat. I want one beat sound without emphasis on any single one throughout the whole cadence.

### 1/5 — Not worth the price

*2026-06-26*

The price is only $30 but honestly what are you getting for that? It’s tracking my run, but if you’re monitoring your cadence you’re probably already tracking your run in a different way.
I missed the deadline to cancel so I’m disappointed by that. There are also several tiers of subscription available in the App Store that are not shown within the app.

### 1/5 — Not free. Data harvesting and time wasting, no trial

*2026-06-15*

So sick of “free” apps that are not up front about no free trial period. Manipulative waste of human time to make us jump through hoops and then pressing start sends you to payment page.

Sucks. That’s 10 mins I won’t get back. You owe me.

You cant even try this app without signing up. And they are not up front an pi t it.

### 1/5 — deceptive

*2026-06-12*

onboarding asks several unskippable questions to gather user info and then has the gall to immediately ask for payment information

### 1/5 — Not easy, paid for nothing

*2026-02-21, version 3.5.2*

I write this as a professional designer: It’s hard to navigate, I was charged without realising, I can’t access the features I’m paying for. Regret.

### 1/5 — Now requires location sharing

### 1/5 — Requires subscription for basic functionality

*2025-11-28*

I understand having a premium subscription plan, but to lock even basic metronome functionality behind a subscription is ridiculous. The app has no functionality unless you pay.

### 1/5 — Subscription required

*2025-11-02*

This app requires you to purchase a subscription. This is a metronome app, I shouldn’t have to pay just to have beeping sounds

### 1/5 — Charging $49.99 for unlimited use

*2025-01-14*

Was once a great app but now trying to charge $50/ year for unlimited use which is really high for a
metronome. I would have been happy to pay $15 but there's no way it costs that much to maintain this app...

**Developer response:** Hi Spaghettiandmeatballs666, thank you for the honest feedback (and great username!). We hear you.

Based on feedback like yours, we’ve updated our pricing and the yearly plan is now $14.99. If you’d like to give runo another try or have any questions, feel free to reach out to us at support@runoapp.com, we’d be happy to help.

We’d love to have you running with runo again.

### 2/5 — The SPM doesn’t match with the cadence and BPM

*2025-09-17*

Unfortunately, the SPM sound in this app is even slower than the regular BPM or the cadence I track on my watch.
I had to switch to a regular metronome app to match my cadence properly.
Good idea for runners but needs to be adjusted

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback! We’re sorry you had to experience this. We’ve already made the necessary adjustments, and we hope you can try it again and enjoy it.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Cadence training

*2026-04-30, version 3.7.8*

Best app on the AppStore for cadence training.
Trying to improve my cadence from 148/152 up to 165+ and this is helping immensely

### 5/5 — Simple with options for those that want them

*2026-01-11, version 3.1.0*

A good metronome for running that works in the background of music. Offers more functionality if that’s what you’re after but the simple metronome is all I use it for.

### 5/5 — Love It!

*2025-12-17*

I tried a musical metronome app and went back to Runo because the one heavy beat after 3 softer ones keeps me absolutely locked into my cadence and I love it. This app is simple but exactly what I want and need.

**Developer response:** Thank you FadedKamui for the nice words! Let’s us know how we can improve runo for you. You can always share your feedback and features requests through the options menu! :)

### 5/5 — easy breezy beautiful

*2025-10-24*

make me run fast

**Developer response:** Love hearing that, exactly what runo was built for. Thanks for the review and happy running :)

### 5/5 — Love listening to audiobooks while running

*2025-06-17*

It’s great being able to listen to my audiobooks while keep my pace

**Developer response:** We are glad to hear it. Enjoying audiobooks while keeping a steady pace is exactly what runo is built for. Happy running :)

### 5/5 — Simply works

*2025-05-26*

It does one thing, and does it well: it beats to guide your steps, 5222.

### 5/5 — Highly recommend

*2025-05-03, version 1.1.3*

A great app for runners like me who appreciate an auditory cadence cue! It’s super simple and clean, and it’s literally EVERYTHING that I can play it behind a podcast and still keep myself entertained while paying attention to my cadence.

### 5/5 — Amazing!!!!!

*2025-05-01*

Such a good app

### 5/5 — Simple but really useful

*2025-04-23*

I usually listen to audiobooks while I train, and now that I’m running more, I didn’t want anything too distracting. This app’s been perfect, it keeps my pace steady without getting in the way. Super helpful!

### 5/5 — Love this app

*2025-04-23*

This app is so simple and effective that it transformed my running experience. I went from barely running to doing it consistently after I started using it. I love that I can listen to my favorite podcast without worrying about my pace.
