### 2/5 — Just a metronome

*2026-07-06, version 2.5.1*

This is just a metronome program. There is nothing that makes it stand out for running or jogging. You can get free ones that do the same thing (Fender Tuner has a metronome, for example). It is nice that it doesn’t collect any data, so it might be worth it to you to pay for that. It’s certainly not very expensive.

### 4/5 — Apple Watch limitations not disclosed

*2026-04-11, version 2.4.0*

Update to my earlier negative review: I restarted my AW Ultra v1 and RunTempo works fine now, with Apple music and the native Apple Fitness workouts all working together. One minor glitch is that the metronome turns off when interrupted by some of Apple’s in-run announcements of splits, etc., and requires restarting. However after extensive research and trialling of metronome solutions for the Apple Watch and Garmin, I can now say that RunTempo is the only one that works nearly seamlessly. I also appreciated the support from Barry after my initial comments.

### 3/5 — Works well

*2026-01-28, version 2.3.0*

Just started running and wanted something to help me run consistently and this app seems to fit the brief.

Two things would improve it massively. 1 allow the Watch crown to turn up the volume.
2 enable haptic feedback as hearing the beep is hard. Then use the crown to increase the haptic strength. Would definitely give a star for each

### 3/5 — What I was looking for except....

*2026-01-21, version 2.3.0*

Exactly what I was looking for, can when offline without phone, can play simultaneously with Spotify working in the background but audio level too low. Already at full volume but it is being overpowered by Spotify podcast audio. Hope futore updates can increase volume limit.

Volume turned all the way up on watch FYI

### 3/5 — What I was looking for except....

*2025-11-29, version 2.2.0*

Exactly what I was looking for, can when offline without phone, can play simultaneously with Spotify working in the background but audio level too low. Already at full volume but it is being overpowered by Spotify podcast audio. Hope futore updates can increase volume limit.

### 3/5 — Needs background play on watch

*2024-01-21, version 2.0.2*

The app works great and does what you expect.
Can’t play in the background with music on Apple Watch though. so you’ll need your phone if you want that while running.

### 2/5 — Love simplicity but lacks ability to change tone of beat

*2023-10-08, version 2.0.2*

One simple edition can make this app, super valuable by just allowing the ability to change the beat tone or allow for uploading a tone

### 3/5 — Not Running in Background

*2023-01-22, version 2.0.2*

Note that in the description, it says Run Tempo runs in the background so that you can still here the tempo while using other apps to listen to music, podcasts, etc. THIS IS NOT TEUE ON APPLE WATCH. I like to leave my phone behind while I train, using my watch to measure my workout. I also like to listen to podcasts or music while I do so. I can’t do that and use Run Tempo. I can listen to the metronome or to music/podcasts, but not both.

This is likely a device limitation and not the developers fault, but I feel this should be stated so more people, like me, purchase the app and discover it can’t be used as described/they intended.

### 2/5 — Poor Sound Design

*2022-11-04, version 2.0.1*

I’m hard of hearing and need to customize the sounds. So the low and high sounds are difficult for my use. The last thing I would expect in a metronome app for Cadence is the inability to customize the sounds by choosing a WAV or AIFF sound I created for my own use.

### 5/5 — Helps with increasing speed

*2021-10-05, version 1.3.1*

I’ve been using this to increase my speed when running. My garmin watch said my average cadence was 162. With 5 runs, my cadence went up to 172, and that made me 1 minute and 45 seconds faster per mile. I’ve been increasing my cadence by 2 steps with each run. I use the high low tone, which helps me with distinguish between the tones, and to know which foot should be with each beat. I use it in the background. I also am playing the peloton app at the same time. I use the 60 minute marathon prep with Becs Gentry. She talks, with music playing. The metronome plays in the background, and is not overpowering.

### 5/5 — Perfect - simplicity is exactly what I wanted

*2021-08-22, version 1.3.1*

This is a simple app that allows me to set the exact running cadence I want and even adjust it on the fly. It couldn’t be simpler and easier to use. Exactly what I was looking for. I wish I would have found this app first before I wasted time and money on so many other apps that did not even work or were way too complex.

### 5/5 — Love it

*2021-07-21, version 1.3.1*

Would love an AppleWatch version please!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — stops after apple watch split announcements

*2026-07-14, version 2.5.1*

it stops after apple watch split announcements during a workout and doesn’t automatically resume. Also would be nice to have a vibration/haptic mode for runners listening to music.

### 1/5 — Doesnt work with Youtube app

*2026-05-25, version 2.5.0*

Can’t get the two apps to play simultaneously. Turns out a free metronome app does exactly what Runtempo says it does

### 1/5 — Terrible garbage app

*2026-05-08, version 2.4.0*

It shuts off as soon as you start running. The sound is very quiet. This app absolutely sucks

### 1/5 — Serious limitations for runners!

*2023-10-28, version 2.0.2*

There is only one choice of high/low sound and it is an annoying “beep” instead of a percussive tone. There is a time limit of 120 minutes so if you’re wanting to use this to pace a longer run (marathon) you’re out of luck. Sorry I dropped $2 on this one. Will be requesting a refund immediately.

### 1/5 — Has an Apple Watch app but can’t play sound on it

*2023-07-05*

I expected this app to be able to show a tempo on my watch app without having to have AirPods hooked up. This is not the case, and should be mentioned in the description.

This app is useless to me seconds after I paid for it.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2023-02-23, version 2.0.2*

This app doesn’t change the speed of music. It just plays a metronome in the background.

### 1/5 — Apple Watch

*2022-01-17, version 1.3.1*

No fitness app should be without Apple Watch Support. Especially a paid app.

### 1/5 — Dated

*2020-12-31, version 1.3.1*

Does not work with Apple Watch

### 1/5 — Don't waste your money

*2017-05-03, version 1.1*

It's an embarrassment they even call this an app. Any more basic and you would be counting yourself. Get a free one like proMetronome that can do much more. Can't change the tone style for example and only has 2 beats vs free ones with multiple tones and beats. I prefer it to actually count the beats , but that's not an option here unlike free ones.

### 1/5 — Battery drain

*2017-04-04, version 1.1*

Cut my battery life in half. I have app background refresh turned off but this doesn't seem to help.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Perfect

*2026-06-02, version 2.5.1*

I have used other apps in the running space and none of them have helped me fundamentally like this one. Highly recommend for newbies

### 5/5 — Cadence

*2026-05-17, version 2.4.0*

I’ve been trying to increase my running cadence as it’s so beneficial. Purchased this app and used for the first time yesterday to help me keep at a 180 cadence. What a game changer. A simple app that does what it should. Easy to select a beat tone, speed and adjust volume while still using my Runna app.
Worth the one off payment, thanks 🏃🏻‍♂️

### 5/5 — No BS runners metronome

*2026-03-10*

I was looking for exactly this app. Something that just plays the metronome beat in the background without interfering with any other media playback. It just does the metronome thing and does it without any distractions. Perfect to fix my running cadence.

**Developer response:** Thanks so much for taking the time to review RunTempo and I'm really glad it's doing what you need it to do!

### 5/5 — What I was looking for except....

*2026-03-07, version 2.4.0*

Exactly what I was looking for, can when offline without phone, can play simultaneously with Spotify working in the background but audio level too low. Already at full volume but it is being overpowered by Spotify podcast audio. Hope futore updates can increase volume limit.

Volume turned all the way up on watch FYI

Update: developers listened and updated the app. Volume is now great!

### 5/5 — The Secret to Better Runs

*2025-09-15, version 2.1.0*

I can’t overstate how much RunTempo has improved my running! The metronome keeps my cadence steady, so my form is better and my performance is up. I used to tweak my playlist to chase the right tempo, but now I just set my cadence and go—no fuss, no learning curve. The latest update even lets the Watch app run audio in the background. Highly recommend for runners of all levels who want something effective and straightforward to use.

### 5/5 — Awesome app

*2024-11-03, version 2.0.2*

I’ve been struggling with cadence on all my runs, tried Garmin watch metronome but it won’t play through headphones so pretty much useless, ran 5 miles yesterday at 144bpm, bought this app last night and ran the same 5 miles today using the app set slightly louder than my music, saw an instant improvement at 156bpm, long way to go to get 170+ bpm but this app will definitely help me achieve it.

### 5/5 — Simple to use, ideal for running

*2024-02-04, version 2.0.2*

Exactly what I needed for helping to improve running cadence

### 5/5 — A great training partner

*2023-05-11, version 2.0.2*

Amazing app - use it on every run.

One request: could you please expose the app’s functionality to Shortcuts? It would be great to be able to start a playlist and the app at the same time. Thanks!

### 5/5 — Simple but incredibly useful app

*2022-10-11, version 2.0.1*

Use this everyday. Awesome for keeping your pace when running.

Found a small bug with the new version (2) contacted the developer who responded within a day and had a fix launched within a couple of days. Very appreciated and impressed.

### 5/5 — Simple and perfect

*2021-10-09, version 1.3.1*

Like another reviewer, I can only keep a consistent pace by listening to the same song on repeat. Once I find the song that works for my current run, I play it over and over and my cadence will be solid. I tried this app out today. Easiest set up, works in the background. I was able to sort of let my subconscious hear and respond to the tones and I didn’t even think about cadence. Worked like a charm. I agree with another review that it would be nice to have different sounds to choose from though.
