This AI changes its mind from one question to another. And, even when you provide the evidence that the answers are incomplete or outright wrong, it stubbornly refuses to correct itself.

Russet provides several models for chat, such as on-device options like the one behind the Apple Intelligence integrated into iOS, alongside robust cloud models via OpenRouter and OpenAI. Models small enough for offline use on an iPhone may sacrifice intelligence for convenience. You can access stronger cloud models by entering your API key(s) in Settings.

Better to be safe than sorry- I asked it the time “The system's safety guardrails were triggered by content in your prompt or Russet's response. This conversation cannot continue.

Please start a new conversation with different content.” I said hello “The system's safety guardrails were triggered by content in your prompt or Russet's response. This conversation cannot continue.”  This app is poor. Worse than poor, do yourself a favour and don’t waste your time. Its better to be safe than sorry.

**Developer response:** Hi there! At the time of your review, Russet only offered the Apple Foundation Model. Since then, several other on-device downloadable models have become available for free, with less restrictive safety guardrails. Additionally, the improved guardrails in the Apple Foundation Model in macOS 26.4+ further reduce the likelihood of blocking benign content. I highly recommend checking Russet out again and exploring some of the new models when you have a chance.

It’s impressive to see how far this app has already come (as of version 1.2.5) especially for free so far. If you haven’t tried it, give it a shot. A good free LLM that runs on your phone is nice to have

Sehr hilfreicher Begleiter für verschiedene lokale Modelle. Etwas schade dass Gemma4 selbst für die kleinste E2B Variante 12GB voraussetzt, sonst aber viele spannende Modelle mit guter Einbindung in die Oberfläche. Praktisch, cute, zugänglich. Danke!
