### 2/5 — Still Crashes

*2020-11-10, version 1.7*

Game play is great, BUT it ALWAYS crashes before a game can be completed.

### 2/5 — Awesome Game

*2020-05-22, version 1.7*

Except it crashes just as you’re winning. Don’t know if the AI is just throwing a fit, or if the game designers got a clunker on their hands. Should be a easy fix. Just depends on which country they come from!!!! And why bother have Campaign games. I’ve never gotten past 15 turns in a 108 turn game that’s supposed to last 4 years in game time. Lucky to get 3 mos/14-16 turns. Lame, lame, lame. Otherwise, it’s really an awesome game.

### 2/5 — Crashes

*2015-08-04, version 1.6*

Nice game but crashes several times during a scenario. Only the auto save feature kept it from being a 1-star review.

### 2/5 — Review

*2015-04-24, version 1.6*

Not worth it. Cannot play more than about 20 moves no matter what scenario you choose. A1 is very weak even playing the hard. Numerous attempts to correct the flaws with no response. Give them a "A" for effort for trying to duplicate the original board game. Reluctant to try their other games.

### 1/5 — Crashes when started

*2015-03-12, version 1.4*

After much debate with myself I decided to plunk down the $10 to buy this app..... I have all of the other tank games that this company makes.. Very disappointed that this app crashes on start up I get to the splash screen and then it crashes I have tried to uninstall and reinstall and even updated my operating system on my iPad nothing has worked please fix this !

### 1/5 — Will not open on 4th generation iPad iOS 8.1.3

### 1/5 — Russian Front

*2014-12-02, version 1.3*

Game started off well enough until I lost my first friendly unit. Then the game CRASHES every time you lose one of your own forces??? Support is not much help as they have contacted my as it has been a week since I have contacted them??? Don't wast your $10..

### 2/5 — Crashes

*2014-11-25, version 1.3*

I have a number of their games with no issues. This game crashes often, while attracting with random units. 10 bucks I would have expected better. Help programers, I like the game. Please fix it

### 1/5 — STAY AWAY

*2014-11-14, version 1.3*

Waste of money and time. Game crashes constantly. I want my money refunded NOW!
11/14/12: Applied the update so at least I can play but game is still glitchy. Attack a random unit and it crashes. Helps to make periodic backups. Hope they fix this soon.

### 2/5 — Hunted cow has some good games this is not one of them

*2014-11-09, version 1.2*

Hunted cow has some good games this is not one of them . Sorry but for $9.99 this was a waste.

### 1/5 — Please fix this game

*2014-11-04, version 1.2*

Did the upgrade and now it constantly crashes. Loved it before. Want to love it again but I can't do that until HUNTED COW FIXES THE BUGs!!! Please.

### 1/5 — USING Latest iPadOS CRASHES IMMEDIATELY

*2021-03-07, version 1.7*

CRASHES immediately with the LATEST iPadOS upon an opening attempt!

Formerly it would crash late in a game when Victory Level was reached. It was a FUN GAME to relax with.

My purchase was motivated by a very old Apple II computer Russian front game by SSG in the 1980s. I smile now, but that game had clumps of opposing army icons with no continuous frontlines (the “missing” units were said to be lesser military forces unable force an effective attack). Loved it!

### 1/5 — Does not work

*2018-07-08, version 1.7*

This was a great game and I could play it to the end. Now all it does is crash. Please fix this is a great game just make the final repairs and you can " make it great again"

### 1/5 — Heed the warning, I didn’t and paid dearly

*2017-12-16, version 1.7*

December 16, 2017 - I saw that the complaints were over a year or two old AND that the developer had recently updated the app for iOS 11. So I thought surely the bugs had been remedied. I passed along my cash and bought this digital snake oil. Before writing this review I contacted the dev via email, no response, crickets.

Do not buy this product. It runs well and looks good right up to the near end and then crashes. After that it repeatedly crashes to the point of not restarting even after device cold boot.

Buyer Beware. Caveat Emptor (loosely translated means “empty your wallet at the Cave (aka App Store)with no recourse.”)

### 1/5 — Crashes, Hex Wars needs to fix their software

*2017-09-08, version 1.6*

Can't believe, spent good money on their software and they don't maintain. Software crashes during a turn. Terrible! Especially since this isn't rocket science. Save your money can keep looking. Don't buy Hex War.

### 1/5 — Bad game

*2017-02-17, version 1.6*

This game is a consent problem, continues to crash and half the time it won,t even load. Apparently the designers don,t care to fix any of the constant crashes. Don,t waste your money.

### 1/5 — Russion front

*2016-05-01, version 1.6*

Love this game, but are they ever going to fix the crashes?

### 1/5 — Huge disappointment

*2015-12-11, version 1.6*

Worst. East Front. Game. Ever.

### 1/5 — Tedious and buggy

*2015-07-26, version 1.6*

This is the only hex war game I never play. In fact, I've recently deleted it. The are superb in tactical games, but this is a cross between a strategic and tactical game, and it doesn't really work as either one.

### 1/5 — Too buggy

*2015-06-02, version 1.6*

Style emphasized over the underlying logic of game. Aside from substandard logic the app crashed often.

### 1/5 — very dissappointed

*2015-03-18, version 1.4*

I have purchased every tank game you make and did not believe you had put out a product that didn't work. This game will not even load and at 10.00 that not right.

Would like to let people know that the game has been fixed haven't had a chance to play it but if it's half as good as their other games I recommend it

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Best strategy game in a decade - Outstanding!!!

*2016-10-31, version 1.6*

This is a big game that you can also play in small segments. Congratulations to the authors of this excellent gameplay. I am a veteran of many battle simulation strategy games, and this is a masterpiece.

I hope the author will come out with another version of this gameplay.

I am glad I ignored some of the early negative reviews, a few times the game got stuck, and I just went to main menu, so as to simply resume the game.

For anyone who with interest in WWII and into strategy games, this is a must-have.

### 5/5 — Great Company

*2014-12-24, version 1.4*

Initially released too soon with a lot of bugs and errors. I'm amending my first review as they have now made this into my favorite East Front game. Thanks for being a company that listens and cares.

### 5/5 — Great Tabletop Game

*2014-10-05, version 1.0*

Great tabletop game. Feels like a board game but without having to remember all the small details and rules. Smooth and crisp movements on the IPAD. If you grew up playing Squad Leader or other similar games you'll enjoy this game.

### 4/5 — Complex

*2014-11-23, version 1.3*

This game takes some brainpower to learn. Once you do it's very good. I will say that some of the scenarios are too easy and others are too hard. Worth the money if you understand the history and are looking for a game to kill a lot of time.

### 3/5 — Russian front

*2015-03-16, version 1.4*

Waited awhile to buy this game because the reviews stated it was constantly crashing. Well if you play as the Germans and the Russian tank units attack your line and the tanks are destroyed the game freezes up on an ipad2. Also since upgrade to IOS8.2 game crashes when loaded and doesn't work at all.
Have several on games from the same company and all work fine.

### 3/5 — Poor artificial intelligence, alas

*2014-11-29, version 1.3*

The game is way too easy to win as the defender. The a.i. seems to mostly ignore its own infantry, attacking with armor and mech until they are ground down to nothing. Conversely, the game is too hard to win as the attacker, the a.i. cheats, even at the easy level by giving itself way too many replacements. Very offputting to be the Soviets in 1944 and watch the Germans field 31 strength point panzer corps against you.

Very dissapointed.

### 3/5 — Thanks for trying..but this is kind of a disappontment

*2014-10-18, version 1.0*

First of all, thank you HC for attempting this title. The idea of combining addictive ancient battles simplicity with the Eastern Front is a tantalizing one.
To a certain extent it is achieved...but it also falls well short of the mark in many ways.
An important part of Ancient Battles success is the diversity of units...you don't get any of that in this game. There are basically 2 unit types...no air, no artillery...no fun. Everything is abstracted into army strength.
The movement of the units is very limited as well...you just can't move quickly enough to even come close to achieving the kind of breakthroughs the Wehracht achieved in Barbarossa.

### 3/5 — It's a decent game - but it needs work

*2014-10-14, version 1.0*

One of the things that I truly miss with the death of computer games for the PC is that strategy games - especially turn-based strategy games - are nearly extinct so I am very excited when I come across a decent one.

So - things I like. It is turned based. Units can be reinforced right at the front lines. The goal is to control cities. It is historical - complete with winter which decreases the combat capabilities of your units. It is long. The first campaign is a whopping 108 turns. I enjoy games that take some time to craft a strategy.

Things I don't like. The instructions need to be more clear. I restarted the first campaign several times as it took me a little while to figure out how the reinforcements work. You can either bump up the unit to increase its combat capability against infantry or mechanized units. Bumping up the stats also increases the unit's size. 2nd, as mentioned I enjoy long games. I was just beginning to get my strategy moving - I was playing the the first campaign on medium difficulty as the Russians when I suddenly won on turn 10 when I thought I had 98 more turns. The game has a winning score and a losing score. Hit either number and the game is over. The Russians in the first campaign star with 32 pts with a losing score of 25 and a winning score of 38. I had lost 2 cities by turn 5 so my score dropped to 30. I was on my way to recapture them when the game told me I had won. Apparently, the winning/losing score can change as the game progresses, and that is what happened to me. The instructions do mention that the score can change, but there is no explanation of how or why. I was annoyed as I was looking forward to a long campaign.

Reinforcements - There are two types. 1st type is bumping up the unit as previously mentioned and the 2nd is new units appearing in your cities. Regarding the first type, the numbers available were different each round and there was no explanation as to why I received the numbers I did. Regarding the 2nd, the new units would appear in the cities. There was no message saying where the appeared and no explanation as to why the appeared where they did.You have to scroll across the map to see if there were new units. You also don't get to choose the reinforcements you receive. I never received and new tanks for example.

Units - There doesn't seem to much variety in unit types. The Russians had tanks and infantry. The Germans had tanks, two types of infantry, and some sort of half -track unit. There is no explanation of the different combat capabilities.

Overall, an ok game. Pay no attention to the reviewer that said it is impossible to win. It looks fairly well balanced. I wish it lived up to its length potential. Perhaps an option to keep playing? (I was REALLY looking forward to invading Germany). I would also like to see an explanation of how/why the reinforcements and new units appear. Finally, I would also like to have the option to choose the reinforcements I receive.

### 2/5 — Crashes when you win, AI

*2022-08-12, version 1.8*

Fairly weak AI, invariably makes the fatal blunder giving up cities including Moscow too easily. Has huge powerful units that just sit on defense. No idea why.

Win 95% of the time on hardest settings but game will not let you win. If you meet the victory conditions, it crashes every time.

Wish they would fix game! This is my favorite campaign.

Oh, and add in the air units please.

### 2/5 — Should have read the reviews

*2021-05-11, version 1.8*

The game is very good, except that it crashes after a few turns when the computer is playing. I tried to update the app and my iPad but kept crashing.
