Gave it a 5 star rating (2 yearly payments since) and previously asked if a user feature could be implemented, see below. Since I never got a response, how about this: a pause feature, as a programmer I understand the challenges, I’m thinking of canceling my subscription otherwise. I’m positive it’d be a beneficial feature for other users as well. (Aug 8 2024) I hope the developer could install a simple, useful feature. To press on a word, and hear it pronounced once, and stop. Currently, if you press on a word, the entire remaining page is narrated. Duolingo and Rosetta Stone's formats didn't really work to well for me. Babbel was great compared to those two, but only got me so far. The grammar guides in Russian Readers particularly have improved my understanding much more and much faster than any of the resources I've tried so far. I was about to call it quits before coming across Russian Readers and am extremely happy I gave it a shot. It's worth every penny. ### 5/5 — Fantastic *2025-01-30, version 1.6* The vocabulary is varied and the stories are sweet. I truly believe this app is the way to learn cases - looking at grammar tables will get you started but seeing the cases in practice really is the best way to learn them. I think it could be improved slightly if the audio controls were just on the page alongside the story, instead of having to click them open, that would make pausing the audio a bit quicker 😁 and being able to click on a singular word to hear its pronunciation could be helpful too! I got an ad on YouTube showcasing this app and thought ‘Wow! I’ve been looking for this all along!’ This app is great as it has books ranging from learning to read all the way to advanced Chekhov. I really like the audio that’s available and the fact the translations can be switched on and off. I think a way to improve though would be a conjugation guide. It’s incredibly intuitive, straightforward, and easy to navigate. The app allows me to practice reading, comprehension, and grammar all in one place. I especially love the word-by-word translation above the text; it makes it so much easier to follow along and learn new vocabulary naturally. The accompanying audio is excellent for practicing both listening comprehension and pronunciation. The illustrations are cute and the stories engaging. The grammar guide videos with Пётр are incredibly informative, almost like having a private class, and Luke’s quick customer service and help has made my experience even better; I’m very thankful. Though I made progress memorizing words, I wasn’t actually learning the language. As I read more about TPRS and language acquisition I saw a heavy emphasis on reading and learning from listening to stories. Searching for different options, I was lucky to find RR. RR has a large number of stories (beginner to advanced) read by native speakers and include direct, word for word translations. Using this regularly by first listening without the text, then listening with the text, then reading it myself and trying to work out the meaning from the words I already knew (the beginner texts build on vocabulary and grammar from previous stories) I have made far more progress than with other language learning apps. RR is also continually developing new content which is great to see. I would definitely recommend this for anyone trying to learn Russian. ### 5/5 — The best app to supplement Russian learning! *2024-09-11, version 1.6* Russian Readers is an app that gives you a blended reading, listening and grammar experience. It is perfect as a supplement to other learning materials. The breakdown of grammar is ready useful, with a good range of vocabulary. A really useful addition would be a pause button. I like how the texts are graded, there is something for learners at every level. The app is very intuitive, and the stories are paced perfectly to the point where I can follow along my pronunciation. Having the English translations for each word is helpful, since it gives me a sense of how Russian grammar structure works. The stories build up with grammar and vocabulary very gently. I never had the feeling of being overwhelmed. 2. The audio is slow enough for a beginner to understand. 3. The range of knowledge in the stories is pretty large so you don’t outgrow it. 4. It’s created for Russian in particular, not a version of a general app. 5. Other apps are focused on getting you “useful” vocab/phrases fast.
