## What is Ryokoya?

You spend the day walking a city you have never been to. It is wonderful. Then you are back at the hotel with your shoes off, someone asks where you went, and what you have is: a street beginning with V, somewhere near the water, that place with the blue door.

Ryokōya (旅行屋, "the travel shop") is a travel journal that remembers for you.

Start a trip when you head out, then put your phone in your pocket. It notices the café you sat in, the shop you wandered into, and the neighborhood you crossed without meaning to — then hands you back the day as a story worth keeping.

HOW IT WORKS
• One tap to start a trip, or ask Siri.
• Screen off, phone away. Visits, landmarks, routes and neighborhoods are recorded in the background.
• At the end you get a written story, a map of where you actually went, and stamps for the neighborhoods you earned.

MADE FOR IPHONE DUO
Open it and Ryokōya opens like a passport: your trips beside the one you're reading, the live map beside today's stops, the Stamp Book across two pages, a trip book as facing pages. Fold it halfway and the map stands up while the story lies flat.

JOURNEYS, RECEIPTS AND BINGO
Join the trips that belong together into one journey, with one map and a chapter per city. Every trip prints a receipt: steps, konbini runs, the earthquake you slept through. Every city has a Bingo card: nine things to do on foot.

WHAT YOU END UP WITH
• The route, not the highlights reel: every walk, ferry, subway and bullet train, drawn as it happened.
• A story written from what actually happened. If Ryokōya didn't see it, it doesn't claim it.
• Stamps and city crowns that only mint when you genuinely arrived.
• A designed book of every trip, free to read.
• Share cards that keep your hotel and your doorstep to yourself, set on a photo of yours if you like.
• Widgets for your trip, your Stamp Book and a word of the day.

CITY PACKS, CURATED BY HAND
Fifty-one cities, 333 packs, 3,446 places, each chosen for a reason, written up in a sentence worth reading, and checked: coordinates, opening doors, and whether it still exists at all.

Every city keeps a RyokōMate, a small local companion with folklore of their own, who turns up in your stories and signs your books. Gigi guards Paris. Pon works Tokyo. Coo runs New York, badly. Every city ships with a free pack.

PRIVACY, WHICH IS RATHER THE POINT
Your movements are the most personal data you have, and Ryokōya has no reason to know where you were.
• No trackers, no analytics, no ad networks — no third-party SDKs at all.
• Your trips live on your device, and with Pro in your own iCloud. There is no Ryokōya server holding your history.
• Location is recorded while a trip you started is running. When no trip is active, Ryokōya is not following you.
• "Always Collecting" ships switched off: it lets a City Pack place you own count between trips, with no route recorded.
• Make any trip private: it opens only with Face ID.

RYOKŌYA PRO
Free covers tracking, stories, stamps, trip books, and one curated pack in every city. Pro adds:
• Ask your journal: Apple Intelligence answers from your own trips, on your iPhone
• iCloud backup that runs by itself, every photo and video if you choose
• Unlimited trip plans — free keeps three on the go
• Email story summaries and automatic photo matching
• Trip Radar: a nudge when a saved place is near
• Walk View: first-person, street-level navigation
• GPX route export, and your trip book as a PDF

Pro is $2.99 a month or $24.99 a year, both auto-renewing, or $69.99 once for a lifetime unlock. Trip Pass unlocks Pro for 30 days and does not renew.

Subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. Manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple Account settings.

### 5/5 — Amazing App!

*2026-09-19*

I recently downloaded this app as I like to keep track of my movements in NYC and when I travel to new places. I do not always have the time to do it in real time, or I just simply forget to do it and then struggle to remember where I went that day. This app was not only very easy to use, but I loved that all I had to do was turn it on and let it do its thing. It made it so convenient to go back and highlight places I enjoyed and log them for future visits without having to do it in the moment. Also, I love the city packs! I was recently in Tokyo and bought that pack and loved the recommendations. The app is really fun too in that you collect badges as you visit different neighborhoods and sites in the cities covered. I highly recommend!

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.5.0 — 2026-10-20

Made for iPhone Duo: Ryokōya opens like a passport.

• Open your Duo and every tab becomes two pages: your trips beside the one you're reading, the live map beside today's stops, the Stamp Book across both pages, a trip book as facing pages.
• Fold it halfway: the map stands up while the story lies flat.
• Open a trip, a journey or a plan in a window of its own.
• Widgets: your trip in progress, a RyokōMate's word of the day, On This Day and your Stamp Book.
• Drop a Moment from Control Center, the Lock Screen or the Action button, or ask Siri to start or end your trip. Your trip's Lock Screen card has a Moment button too.
• Find any trip, stop or City Pack place in Spotlight.
• Make a trip private: it opens only with Face ID and stays off share cards, receipts, books and widgets.
• Your passport's pages turn: swipe the data page for an entry stamp from every city you've walked, its name in the city's own script.
• Set any share card on a photo of your own.
• Ryokōya Pro: ask your journal anything, answered by Apple Intelligence from your own trips, on your iPhone. Share cards can use the trip's own photos, and the Trip Vault can keep every photo and video in your iCloud.
• Text follows your Text Size setting, and VoiceOver reads each page in turn.

Every city still ships with a free pack. Made in New York, tested on foot.

### 1.2.2 — 2026-10-16

A Trip Vault that backs itself up, and steady on iPhone Duo.

• Your Trip Vault backs up on its own, and now holds your whole account. With Pro, every trip goes to your own iCloud as it ends, and every change you make afterward (a fixed stop, an added one, a photo, a note) follows as you leave the app. Your journeys, City Pack progress, corrections, notes on saved places and your name go too. No Back Up Now needed. Sign in to another iCloud account and everything goes there too.
• A favorite, collection or plan you delete stays deleted; before, a backup could bring it back.
• On iPhone Duo, Ryokōya stays in one window, so a trip is never started twice or split between two. Open your Duo, fold it or close it: your trip keeps going.
• iPhone set to Japanese? City Packs now know their places by the names Apple Maps gives them in Japanese, so your visits count toward your packs.
• A café or shop inside a station or landmark (Grand Central, Tokyo Station) is its own stop now, and the stops after it are no longer lost.
• Tap a day in a journey's date strip and the journal takes you there.
• The Passport fits every iPhone, not just the largest.
• A place's buttons wrap onto two rows instead of running off the screen.
• The Trips tab's trip clock keeps ticking while you're stopped.
• A wishlist place nudges you once a trip, not every time you close the trip screen.
• On iPad, the window controls no longer cover the headers or Explore's search.
• "Restore Trip?" asks once, never twice.

Every city still ships with a free pack. Made in New York, tested on foot.

### 1.2.1 — 2026-10-11

Your trips, set right — and stamps you can read.

• Stamps are redesigned: the neighborhood's name runs straight across the seal like a postmark, under an icon chosen for that neighborhood. All 1,094 have one: a sumo wrestler in Ryogoku, the Louvre's pyramid, a cat in Gotokuji.
• The Stamp Book keeps the cities you're in or near In Progress; the rest wait in Stamped and Visited until you come back.
• Set a finished trip right: fix a stop the app named wrong, add one it missed, or mark one that wasn't a stop. Your story, stamps and City Packs follow.
• Tap a place in your journal or story to open it, just as in Favorites and Explore.
• City Pack places stand out in your stories and books with their own icon and the pack's write-up, and every new stamp tells its neighborhood's story.
• Your journal keeps local time: read a Tokyo trip in New York and dinner is still at 8 PM. Days break at local midnight and take the name of the city you spent them in.
• ON FOOT counts walking only, never the bullet train.
• Stays an earlier version cut to under a minute get their real length back.
• A guide on every tab: tap its name for a tour with a RyokōMate.
• A receipt from several cities brings their RyokōMates, and LATEST NIGHT and Night Owl are back.

Every city still ships with a free pack. Made in New York, tested on foot.

### 1.2.0 — 2026-10-06

The Trip Receipt: your trip, itemized.

• Every trip and journey prints a receipt: steps, konbini runs, Starbucks, Shinkansen rides, temples, rainy days, the earthquake you slept through, and your RyokōMate's own math. TOTAL: MEMORIES ∞.
• Pin the lines you love, drop the rest, roll the dice for another mix, and share it on the night sky or on your own photo.
• Win awards along the way: Konbini Connoisseur, Night Owl, Rain Walker, Marathoner and six more.
• City Bingo: nine things to do in every city, checked off as you walk. Three in a row is a BINGO.
• The new Playground on your Passport keeps your Bingo cards, your awards, and On This Day.
• The journal shows each day's date and weather, and every day ends with a postcard from your companion.
• Chapters announce each city in its own script, on its name in many languages; long journeys get a strip of dates to jump through.
• A journey opens on a window of its own, and its book prints each day as the journal tells it.
• Crown cards lead with the city, in its own color.
• Your Passport's stamp list puts each city in bold.
• Meet the RyokōMates: the companions in every city have a family name now.

Every city still ships with a free pack. Made in New York, tested on foot.

### 1.1.4 — 2026-10-02

Journeys: a whole trip away, told as one story.

• Join several trips into a journey — a fortnight in Japan, every Tokyo day — with one map of every walk and the trains between cities, your totals and records, and the days by city.
• Each journey tells its story with a chapter for every city. Your Tabitomo drops in along the way in the shift each stop calls for (café, ramen, night), and at the places it knows, tells you a local's fun fact.
• Make the whole journey into one book, and gather all its places into one Favorites collection.
• Ryokōya suggests journeys from trips that belong together, or pick the trips yourself.
• A fast train between cities is one ride from station to station, and the stations it stops at aren't counted as visits.
• If iOS closes Ryokōya during a trip, the trip picks up again by itself.
• City Pack parks, landmarks and museums count when you spend time inside them, measured by their real outlines, whatever your stop is called.
• The Grand Crown: every neighborhood of a city's heart, and a companion in gold.
• Neighborhood maps reviewed in every city, and a correction you make is remembered for your next visit.
• Trip books lay out better: long lists run onto more pages, and nothing is cut off at a page's edge.

Every city still ships with a free pack. Made in New York, tested on foot.
