I particularly like the way that they swim in and out of the foliage, which moves realistically. Though the art was stylized, the animation always captured the true goldfish wiggle perfectly. And still no one else has done it so well. I had missed having the beauty of fantails for so long, now I cast them to my TV and they are so relaxing and wholesome to have on in the background. Outstanding value for the price, I love that I (gladly) pay for only the fish I want. The fish are gorgeously detailed and realistic, and the customization options are nicely varied. There is even a “cat and baby mode” if you have children or pets who would enjoy watching the fish swim around without accidentally messing with a setting. Highly recommend. Long review: I remember loving this developer’s original goldfish app as a kid. Now as an adult, it’s amazing to see what they’ve accomplished with RYUKIN. I’ve had several pet goldfish and aquariums over the years, and can attest that the movement of the fish in the app is insanely realistic. For example: if you’ve ever watched fish closely, you’ll have noticed that the way their eyes move is distinctly different than, say, a dog or cat or human. If you zoom into the RYUKIN fish, you can see this exact movement. (Not to mention the glistening iridescent scales, flowing transparent fins, and tiny mouths that gulp at the water.) In some environments, you can even watch as the fish swim through aquatic plants with a gentleness and softness that is immensely soothing. There are a vast number of settings you can play with and many different fish designs (note that aside from the original black and white fish, the others require $2.99CAD to purchase), including fantasy designs such as cat-eared fish or robot fish. It’s clear the developer has a sincere love for fish, and that passion shines through. You can check out their youtube channel if you want to see some behind-the-scenes of the app’s creation.
