First of all, very few people, I understand marketing is costly, but every parish young adult ministry and college ministry should be talking about it and mentioning it. More Catholic content creators and pages on social media should be promoting it. Another big issue, is that the free version allows you to see likes if you click on the profile, and the issue is that once the person opens it, they can just back out and not make a decision. I feel like if you open a like, you should be forced to match or decline, if thats not an option then viewing your likes should not be allowed. Another big issue is the cost, a bit too steep, should be lowered just a tad bit. Another big issue is ghosting, I am not sure what the gender ratio is, I am a guy, but I am astonished at how little affective responsibility there is in a Catholic app where charity should be at the forefront, perhaps a scoring system or penalties should be implemented for ghosting. Finally, way too many lukewarm people that don’t accept church teachings. **Developer response:** Hi! Thank you for this review because it’s clear you see the potential in what we’re building. We’re now in a position to accelerate that growth, too, so we’re excited about where things are headed. A lot of what you mentioned is already something we’re actively working on. We’ve implemented a change where, once you reach a certain number of likes, you have to take action on them- either accept or decline-before continuing. We want to encourage people to actually engage rather than leave others hanging. We’re also taking ghosting seriously. We have Dating101 and other formation resources built into the app to encourage better dating habits, and we’re exploring additional ways to encourage accountability and charity in how people interact. And when it comes to being authentically Catholic, we address the importance of adhering to Church teaching right from onboarding. As for the size of the community and pricing, those are areas we’re continuing to work on as we grow. Building a healthy Catholic dating community takes time and a lot of resources, but we’re committed to doing it the right way. Reviews like this genuinely help us make SacredSpark better. ### 2/5 — Matchmaking Feature Ruins it *2026-08-03* Most of the men on here are weirdos who are clearly on the spectrum and send me likes and of course I just delete them. Then when I get a like from a man that is actually normal - I never hear back from him and then I realized it’s probably because of this stupid match maker option. I’m sure there are moms and sisters making profiles for their sons and brothers and sending likes for them when the men are not actually interested in me. There’s also the issue that I am 32 and received three likes from men in their 50s in one week. I reached out to sacred Spark and they said I had to toggle so that only men within 15 years of my age could see me. This is absurd that I had to set that parameter myself. It does not surprise me that a gross 56 year old man would send me a like what surprised me is that SS allowed it to happen. I am sure the 50 something year old men are going after the girls in their early 20s. **Developer response:** Thank you for taking the time to share your experience! We’ll see what happens. ### 3/5 — Are guys even seeing my likes?? *2026-05-25* I like how intentional the app is and how you can connect with Catholic singles all over the US to expand the dating pool. However, right now there are more cons than pros. 1. No one I like ends up matching with me. I’ve been on several dating apps and almost every man I like ends up liking me back (not trying to sound vain just providing context) and on Sacred Spark not a SINGLE guy I’ve liked has matched with me. It makes me question the algorithm. 2. I don’t like the forced voice note. Not everyone wants to do something like that and it should be optional. 3. There shouldn’t be such a tight cap on how many profiles you can look through a day. It’s making the whole dating process so much slower with likes just trickling in and not as many connections being made. **Developer response:** Hi Jill, Thank you so much for your feedback. SacredSpark is intentionally designed to move a bit slower than most dating apps, and with our latest release, we actually introduced a new change that encourages users to intentionally respond to people who have already liked them before continuing to send out large numbers of new likes. We’re trying to foster more meaningful engagement and conversations rather than the fast-paced “blast through profiles” culture that exists on many apps today. Thanks again for taking the time to share your thoughts; feedback like this truly helps us continue refining SacredSpark! ### 3/5 — Had a lot of hope *2026-04-06* So I have been using this app for a few days, I know people who have had good luck on the creators matchmaking threads and was hoping the app would be a new option for Catholics aside from the abysmal Catholic Match. First impressions are the app looks good, and is easy to navigate. Requires you to start with a voice introduction (though I have found multiple profiles that just have silence in theirs and let it run for 30 seconds so no one seems to be checking on those. They limit how many profiles you can view every day to 15, to make the experience more “intentional” and less like swiping culture… unless you’re willing to pay in which case swipe away. They blur all the pictures except for 1 on each of the profiles to try and make the matches more than just appearance, so you can consider the whole person… once again unless you wanna pay, then you get access to all the pictures. You’re are limited to 3 likes a day… but if you want to pay, you get the drill. Is it better than Catholicmatch? Yes. I just wish they would stop trying to dress up why they have the paywalls and just admit they are a business and they want the money. I do still think there is hope for this app and that’s why I’m giving it 3 stars, it’s still small enough they can fix some of these issue without major disruption and improve overall user experience. **Developer response:** Hi! However, I am unable to get past the audio introduction portion while setting up my account. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, but nothing seems to work. The developers of this app seem to ignore that fact that physical attraction is a real and important thing in a relationship. Of course not the only thing, but it is a huge aspect. SacredSpark was marketed as a dating app that would be more impactful for Catholic dating with young adults, but that wasn’t my experience at all. While I appreciate the intent to take a different approach, the app feels extremely limited, restricted likes, blurred photos, and a 24-hour wait to see who liked your profile. The roll out of the app by diocese seemed unnecessary. Having a paid premium subscription is not any different than other dating apps. The overall app experience does not feel innovative. What really stood out was an email from the Safety Team stating my profile was restricted because my audio introduction didn’t meet authenticity guidelines, and that my account would be banned if I didn’t re-record it. I chose to have my account deleted(banned) because I’m uncomfortable providing a voice recording. While I understand the importance of safety, it’s unclear how a voice recording actually verifies identity or prevents impersonation, scams, or fake profiles—especially when voices can easily be recorded, altered, or reused. This mandatory requirement feels flawed and unnecessary. SacredSpark offers nothing that sets it apart from other dating apps. I won’t be recommending it to my single Catholic friends. **Developer response:** Hi Austin, A few clarifications. SacredSpark is intentionally designed to slow dating down, we encourage intentionality, not endless swiping. There is no automatic 24-hour wait to see who liked you, that only occurs after you’ve already received and viewed multiple free daily likes. We roll out diocese by diocese to prevent “deadzones” and ensure strong local communities as hyper-local filtering only works well when there is enough critical mass. Regarding safety: your account was flagged after a report. Our safety team reached out to you multiple times requesting a simple 5–25 second audio introduction to confirm authenticity. This is one of several safeguards we use to protect users from impersonation, bots, and bad actors. Your account was ultimately removed for not adhering to those safety protocols and cooperating with our safety team. SacredSpark is intentionally different, and it won’t be for everyone, but we'll never compromise on safety, intentionality, and real connection. We wish you the best in your search for a meaningful relationship, and feel free to contact our safety team anytime if you wish to return! ### 1/5 — I really wanted to like this *2026-01-31* I actually feel guilty leaving a bad review for a Christian app. But the developers are not doing what they claim to help us find marriage partners. I am on HOLY, Hinge, and Facebook dating and I get tons of matches every week. I’ve never gotten a single match on this app. It’s the most restrictive dating app I’ve ever used in my life. I don’t like the other apps I mentioned because they’re either secular or Protestant based. We really needed an option for Catholics, but this just wasn’t it. They need to lift the restrictions off of this app un blur the pictures and let us talk to one another. We should be promoting the matching of Catholic couples so we can get married and have children in this terrible time. We live in. I understand you need to make money, but there are other ways to do that such as advertising and less restrictive measures to promote people to pay for the app. Whoever is in charge of overseeing the way this app is programmed and works is making a lot of bad decisions unfortunately. The marketing campaign before it launched was extremely good, so my expectations were high. Initially, there were some suspect product decisions, such as not being able to see any pics of the person until matching. But SacredSpark listened to feedback and iterated extremely quickly! Now this is my favorite dating app. I like how the app is set up, and I am seeing really great Catholic men on this app, some of whom I’ve gone on dates with! My success rate on this app is much higher than on others! Frustrated with failed relationships over matters of faith, I vowed to only date practicing Catholics.
