Modern slavery happens in hand car washes across the country. But with only anecdotal evidence, and a partial understanding of the scale of the problem, victim support and enforcement agencies need the public’s help to map this issue. The Safe Car Wash app has been created to enable the public to help gather information about hand car washes in the UK and identify where there are signs that exploitation or abuse might be taking place. Download the Safe Car Wash app onto your phone and use it every time you go to a hand car wash. The app will take you through the most obvious indicators of modern slavery, asking you questions to determine whether those signs are present or not. If there is a high likelihood of modern slavery in the car wash, you will be prompted to send a report to the Modern Slavery Helpline, which can be done directly through the app, or to call them on 08000 121 700. Remember, if someone is in immediate danger please call 999 and report it to the police. The only thing I think really needs changing is the slide bar to select the cost of the car wash. It is way too sensitive in going up in penny increments so I found I could not get it accurate at all. + and - buttons that go up in 25p increments would be better or just let the user enter the amount themselves into £ and pence boxes. I downloaded the app today with the intention of trying to discover if my concerns were justified. I looked up news etc and was then unable to go back to reporting without closing the app down and re-opening. Like the other review I would have liked to go through the stages to see what it involved but could not do it as a ‘practice’ run or put in yesterday’s location where I had my car washed.
