## What is SafeRoute Global?

SafeRoute helps you walk home with more confidence. Check how safe
your area is in a tap, plan a route, share it with someone you trust,
and reach for help in one tap — wherever you are, the app adapts to
your region.

KEY FEATURES

- Nearby — open the app and instantly see how safe your area is: a
crime-safety score, a live crime heatmap of your surroundings,
what's most reported nearby, the safe spaces around you (hospitals,
police, 24-hour shops), and how risk shifts by time of day —
including a "Right Now" read for the current hour. Tap any spot on
the heatmap for its own breakdown, or tap a safe space to route
there. No route needed — just open and look. Search any area to
  check it before you go.

- Live — a real-time tab in supported cities: live street cameras
(London with video clips, New York, Las Vegas, Toronto, Vancouver)
and near-real-time 911 dispatch shown as embers (San Francisco and
New Orleans). Dispatch calls are honestly labelled — never treated
as confirmed crimes, and never part of your safety score.

- Crime-aware routing — every route is scored using the latest local
crime data, so you can pick the lower-risk path instead of just the
shortest. Each route also shows how much of it runs on lit vs dark
streets, so you can choose a brighter way home. Routes are labelled
LOW, MODERATE, or HIGH risk so you choose with full context.

- Area Safety widget — add SafeRoute to your Home Screen or Lock
Screen for an at-a-glance crime-safety score of wherever you are
right now, with a breakdown of what's been reported nearby.

- Share my walk — send a live link via WhatsApp, iMessage, or any
share-sheet app. The recipient can follow your location on a
public page until you arrive. No app install needed on their end.

- Quick access to help — one tap to your local emergency number
(999 in the UK, 911 in the US, Canada and Mexico), and a FIND HELP
button that surfaces the nearest 24-hour pharmacy, hospital, police
station, or shop. In the UK, one tap also reaches the Strut Safe
  volunteer walk-home line.

- Off-route alerts — if you drift more than a short distance from
your planned path, you'll get a discreet haptic on your Watch
and a banner on your phone. No alarm, no panic — just a nudge.

- Arrival check-in — when you reach your destination, SafeRoute
prompts you to send an "Arrived safely" message to the person
  you shared your walk with.

- Apple Watch app — your next turn, ETA, and remaining distance
at a glance. Safety actions are one swipe away.

- Live Activity — Lock Screen and Dynamic Island show your current
  turn and progress without unlocking.

- Built for everyone — English and Spanish, full Dark Mode, Dynamic
Type, VoiceOver labels throughout, and Reduce Motion support.

WHERE IT WORKS

SafeRoute covers four countries: the United Kingdom (England, Wales &
Northern Ireland); 26 US cities — including New York, Los Angeles,
Chicago, Houston, Dallas, Las Vegas and New Orleans; Toronto and
Vancouver in Canada; and Mexico City. Crime data comes from each
region's official open-data feed, and the app automatically uses the
right source, emergency number, and local safe-place data for wherever
you are. Available in English and Spanish.

PRIVACY BY DESIGN

SafeRoute doesn't require an account. Your routes aren't stored on our
servers. Share links are temporary and expire when your walk ends.
Crime data comes from public open-data feeds — we don't track who
searched for what.

DESIGNED FOR THE WALK HOME

Most walking nav apps assume you just want the fastest route.
SafeRoute assumes you sometimes want the safer one. The two often
agree. When they don't — like at 2 a.m. on an unfamiliar street —
you get to choose.

Walk smart. Walk safer. Walk home.

This app is a real game-changer for getting around in New York City! I downloaded it when I first moved here, and keeping my toddler safe while walking is a top priority. Now, I can easily steer clear of blocks or streets that I know aren’t the safest for us. Honestly, it’s the best app ever!

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.3.0 — 2026-08-27

The Live update.

NEW — Live tab: a 3D night map of the last 24 hours. See the 911 calls police actually responded to in New Orleans and San Francisco (near real-time), shown as embers that burn brighter the fresher they are. Tap one for what was reported. Dispatch calls, honestly labelled — never confirmed crimes, and never part of your safety scores.

NEW — Live street cameras: in London, 900+ TfL JamCams with short video clips refreshed about every 2 minutes; in New York, street-level cameras at major intersections across the city; on the Las Vegas Strip and Fremont Street; and in Toronto and Vancouver. Tap a camera for its latest view. Powered by TfL Open Data; 511NY / NYSDOT; Nevada DOT; Open Government Licence – Toronto; City of Vancouver.

NEW — Optional alerts, off by default: a quiet heads-up if you walk into a block where reported incidents run well above the local average, and (in San Francisco and New Orleans) an occasional background check for serious 911 calls within a few blocks. Everything runs on your phone — your location is never sent to our servers.

Every safety count now states its time window (for example "7 months to Aug 2026"), because data spans differ by city.

Plus: pull-to-refresh in Nearby is fixed, and the camera viewer's close button works everywhere.

### 1.2.3 — 2026-08-05

SafeRoute now runs on iOS 16.4 and later.

Previously the app required the very latest version of iOS, which left a lot of iPhones unable to install it — including plenty that are only a release or two behind. That's fixed: if your iPhone runs iOS 16.4 or newer, SafeRoute will run on it.

Nothing else has changed. Same crime-aware routing, same coverage across the UK, 26 US cities, Toronto, Vancouver and Mexico City.

Walk smart. Walk safer. Walk home.

### 1.2.2 — 2026-08-04

- Browse whole neighbourhoods on the web. About now links to our free neighbourhood safety index — over 1,000 areas across nine cities, scored from the same data as the app, and shareable with anyone.
- Better VoiceOver in Spanish. Dozens of spoken labels that were still read out in English on Spanish-language devices are now translated.

Walk smart. Walk safer. Walk home.

### 1.2.1 — 2026-06-29

- Your safer route is now the route you walk. When you choose a lower-risk
route, turn-by-turn navigation follows that exact path — not the default one.
- Redesigned Home Screen & Lock Screen widget. The safety score is clearly
labelled out of 100, every size names the area it covers, and the
time-of-day charts are easier to read.
- Works offline. Your last area-safety read and nearby help stay available
  with no signal.
- Faster. Routes and your location load noticeably quicker.
- Search examples are now local to you — the suggested places are from your
  own city.

Walk smart. Walk safer. Walk home.

### 1.2.0 — 2026-06-25

NOW IN 4 COUNTRIES
SafeRoute has gone international.

- 19 more US cities — Denver, Los Angeles, San Diego, Dallas, Detroit,
Baltimore, Houston, Las Vegas, New Orleans and more — each powered by its
city's official open crime data. That's 26 US cities in total.
- Canada — Toronto and Vancouver.
- Mexico City — our first region beyond the English-speaking world.
- Español — the app is now fully localized in Spanish (on Spanish-language
  devices).

As always, SafeRoute adapts automatically: the right crime-data source,
emergency number (999 in the UK, 911 across the US, Canada & Mexico), safe
places, and place search for wherever you are.

Walk smart. Walk safer. Walk home.
