### 5/5 — Lifesaver

*2026-06-14*

Makes finding safe restrooms so easy, and I like being able to add restrooms when I find one that isn’t on the app!

### 5/5 — A much needed app!

*2026-06-12*

As the parent of a non-binary child, it’s always tricky to find a gender neutral restroom when we are out in public. And though it shouldn’t be difficult for any human to find a restroom to use, in many cases it is. This app helps alleviate a lot of that associated anxiety and stress. Thanks for seeing a need and creating a tool to help!

### 5/5 — From the person who built it

*2026-06-12*

Full disclosure: I made this app, so take my five stars with a grain of salt. But here's why I built it in the first place: I believe having a safe place to go to the bathroom is a fundamental human right. For many people, gender-neutral restrooms are the only safe option. For those of you out there, I see you, and I built this for you.

I designed this to be private from the start. There's no account, no ads, and no tracking. You open it, you find a restroom, you close it. That's the whole pitch.

If something's missing or could be better, please reach out at safestall.app/contact -- I read everything.

And if you find Safestall to be helpful, please leave a review. It helps more people find the app.

Thank you!

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 1.5.1 — 2026-06-29

Fixed an occasional crash on the listing details screen. It's behaving itself again.

### 1.4 — 2026-06-24

Smart summaries
When there are duplicate listings from Refuge (when multiple people add a restroom for the same place), we pass all of the notes/directions to an LLM and show a summary as the top note. You can still tap to see all of the individual notes from each listing. Important: we are only passing Refuge bathroom data to the LLM. Nothing about you is shared.

Map will now keep up with you as you move
When you're just browsing (nothing selected, not routing), the map now quietly keeps pace as you walk or drive. New restrooms drift into view as you move without any tapping.

"Looks like you're close by"
A small card floats above the list when the app recognizes the place you're at. It tells you right away whether there's a gender-neutral restroom listed there, or that there isn't yet, with a quick link to add one.

More restrooms, better names
We were missing about half of OpenStreetMap's toilet data (the ones mapped as building footprints rather than single points). Those are in now. Public restrooms in parks and other venues also show their actual location name. "Liberty Park" reads a lot more useful than "Public restroom."

Smarter duplicate merging
A Starbucks mapped in OpenStreetMap and a Starbucks submitted to Refuge now correctly merge into one listing instead of showing up as two separate pins.

Recenter is more reliable
Fixed a few cases where the recenter button got stuck, didn't fire on first open, or got hijacked by a selection.

Map loads instantly on cold open
The app now restores the last map area so tiles draw immediately instead of flashing a grey grid while loading.

A little personality
The selected far-away pin now does tiny randomized "greeting" animations instead of one fixed wave. It wiggles, nods, hops. It's subtle. I like it.

### 1.2 — 2026-06-10

Tons of new stuff for you.

- Search before you go. Look up any place or city to check restroom availability ahead of time. Suggestions show restroom counts as you type, and searching a venue with a listing takes you straight to its details.
- Find the nearest restroom in one tap. A new Control Center / Lock Screen / Action Button control opens Safestall and starts guiding you to the closest listing
- Nearby options on every listing. Detail pages now show the 5 closest other restrooms, so you always have a backup without backing out.
- Smarter on reopen. Returning to the app now refreshes your location, and if you're mid-route it re-routes from where you actually are.
- Better names, fewer duplicates. Friendly place names now appear throughout the list, and duplicate listings are cleaned up before they reach the map.
- Polish all over: new pin animations, refreshed pride icon set (now with Agender and Genderfluid), updated colors and typography, swipe-back in Settings, and a more detailed privacy policy.
- Plus many fixes — including a crash when tapping the map during launch, list sorting on reopen, and the recenter button while navigating.
