Won’t even find my GunBox to connect. GunBox’s core hardware product is pretty sweet, but the sifter side like support, software, docs, etc are SEVERELY inept. Now the app won't even open as it just crashes as soon as you try to open it. It needs an update. Tried contacting the company and no luck via email. Very disappointed. Finger print entry.... would not trust my life with it. App is ridiculous. Downloaded several times. Yes it connects with pressing the shield and opens with the app; but only one time. But the SafeTech app and fingerprint reader are complete garbage. I’ve had my GunBox for 3 years but the software has never worked correctly. Bluetooth connection is frail beyond belief. It ALWAYS loses the connection. Sometimes in 3 seconds. It Never stays connected long enough to set or reset 8 character required passcode. The fingerprint reader is also useless. It is Not dependable at all. Somebody will sue them because it fails in a real life or death situation. Just a matter of time. For the price of a GunBox, it should work. Only the cards and fobs have ever worked. I have no confidence in the product or the company. Stay away! The other day, the alarm went off for no reason and nothing would stop it. Just had to put it in the basement and wait for battery to die. Tech support email was no help. ### 1/5 — The all really is as bad as everyone says *2019-11-29, version 1.5* I was beyond excited to get my gunbox in the mail. The first thing I did to set it up was download the app and that’s where everything went wrong. It simply does not work. You can connect it the first time, and after that it’s like it has amnesia and you can’t get back connected to your device. It’s sad to see this has been going on for well over a year and the creators of the gunbox have done nothing to remedy the issue. My bet is they hired an outside company to design the app, and didn’t pay them to continually support and update it. It’s the only thing that makes sense. Anyway I love my gunbox but I feel I’m not getting the full suite of features since the app is completely worthless. That makes me very sad. ### 1/5 — App is buggy at best *2019-11-11, version 1.5* So the app appears to work when you originally connect it to a device. However, once you close the app and reopen it, the problems begin. The app will open in searching mode looking for a device and will not indicate that you already have one connected. The app allows you to change the WiFi “name” of the product- which is helpful, since you don’t want “gun box” showing as an available WiFi . However once you change the name in the app, that doesn’t change the name seen as WiFi device. Gun box actually shows up as a WiFi for guest to see. I’m surprised the developers haven’t updated the app to fix this. It’s been over a year. ### 1/5 — Has never worked with 4 different Gunbox’s *2019-08-22, version 1.5* It will not connect to Gunbox’s, using iOS. Android does connect, doesn’t function well and the app causes problems with various Bluetooth apps or devices. The Lynkd app for iOS has been great with 2 of the 4 Gunbox’s. After returning the defective models, that Gunbox insisted on returning rather than exchanging, after supposedly “fixing” both safes. Gunbox has great customer service at the customer service level! That’s where the customer service ends. The management-supervisors have no idea how to deal with obviously defective product(s). Especially very loyal, outspoken, repeat customers. Stuck my foot in my mouth by proudly advertising for a company that has no concept of customer service and selling a defective product! Now 3 work great with Lynkd, 1 was “defectively repaired” and does not work well with any app. ### 1/5 — Doesn’t work *2019-07-14, version 1.5* No documentation & it simply doesn’t work. ### 1/5 — Sooooooo bad *2018-12-29, version 1.5* It won’t work! Delete... ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — App crashes after one second *2025-08-02, version 1.5* Every time I start the application, it opens to its first screen pauses for one second or less, and then closes. If I move quickly, I can press the add device button, and it still does not stay open and search for the device. I guess the company cheap out on creating an application and figured they could get by without one. Since the application is required for almost every bit of functionality, the gun box is rendered almost useless and no new fingerprints or RF ID devices can be added. The manufacturers should be ashamed of themselves! ### 1/5 — Fix your app! *2023-10-12, version 1.5* Fix this! It crashes as soon as you open it ### 1/5 — Get ready to sue! *2023-01-09, version 1.5* For all who have the gun box that can’t use the app to configure, add, delete or change your gun box: since this is a method for protection that we have decided to purchase and use and since the manufacturer has yet to update the app to work with a product that is still being sold: I will be sure to sue for any loss of life or damages that occurs if I can not get to my firearm to protect myself and my family. Don’t make a product function off of an app and not update it. It’s like buying a car that can’t have maintenance done. It will crash and burn and people will get hurt in the process! The key fab does work, but in an emergency, trying to find the fab while panicked, or leaving the fab right next to the safe, seems counterproductive. This app crashes as soon as you open it. The safe is great but only with a working app. Don’t buy this product until they update the app. ## Most praised reviews (6 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Settle down, people! *2017-10-08, version 1.5* Ok, admittedly, SafeTech/Gunbox has done a poor job of instructing users HOW to use the app (one reason for the 4-star rating), but it DOES work. After messing around with it, I realized what it was trying to do: As soon as it’s launched, it’s searching for your gunbox. Press the shield on your gunbox to initiate Bluetooth. Give it a minute, it will lock on. The only failure I’ve found is if you manually select gunbox from the product menu, then click the gray bar to connect, it never does (second reason for my 4-star rating). DON’T DELETE AND REINSTALL. Close the app and relaunch, press the shield button on your gunbox, then give it a second. It will find your gunbox. From here, press the settings icon on bottom right corner. From there, EVERYTHING works as advertised. ### 5/5 — Great app! *2017-01-30, version 1.2* So easy to use! I love the history log and it's a breeze to add an rf key! I successfully paired the gun box with the app but then it was like I couldn’t connect the two devices and had to pair it again and again! Afterwards, I discovered that while you start the app (don’t go to the left menu and look for the device, just stay in the first screen) if you press the top button in the gun box, BINGO!! Other issue is that it takes a few seconds for the app to connect so, if you are under stress... I wouldn’t try this option.
