### 2/5 — Nice idea but…

*2025-09-17, version 3.186*

Yes I totally agree with others that I am not happy letting the app always know my location and access bluetooth. I do not agree with the app sending notifications so with all of ghese off for me it is not going to be great.

### 2/5 — Meh

*2022-05-30, version 3.136*

The placement of the emergency button needs to be reconsidered. Overall, the app is okay.

### 2/5 — Good idea, poorly executed

*2021-10-18, version 3.130*

I am required to check in for my course and to use this app. The fact that it needs continuous access to my location instead of letting me input a timesheet of is ludicrous.

The app crashes whenever I press check in timer (not sure what the button is for)

### 1/5 — Won’t take phone number entry

*2021-03-31, version 3.123*

Keeps defaulting to an incorrect area code and won’t allow me to put it my phone number. Cannot use this app

### 1/5 — Can’t log in

*2020-09-28, version 3.117*

Asks for email then continues loading endlessly

### 1/5 — Validation not working

*2020-01-31, version 3.111.1*

When I put in my work email it does not send email for verification. It is the correct email address. Have uninstalled and reinstalled but to no avail.

### 1/5 — Can’t log in

*2019-12-04, version 3.110*

Need verification email to send so that I can continue, but the email hasn’t sent even after clicking resend many times. Have tried a few times but no luck/:

### 1/5 — Useless app

*2019-11-05, version 3.109*

The app asks you to put in your email everytime you open it. It then proceeds to tell you there is no safe zone available when there certainly are.

### 1/5 — Password

*2019-01-29, version 3.98*

Not accepting my password

### 1/5 — Faulty

*2017-11-20, version 3.72*

I put in wrong email and won’t let me reset my entire app. Even after deleting and redownloading

### 1/5 — Bad interface

*2016-10-11, version 3.40*

The interface is out of date and looks terrible on newer iPhones. It's difficult to understand what certain buttons do... such as checking in? What?

### 2/5 — Room for improvement

*2016-10-10, version 3.40*

South Australia, southern suburbs. I downloaded this app but there are no safe zones listed so I can't use this app.
It'd be invaluable if only I and many other could also use it here.
Please look at expanding this.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Garbage

*2026-06-30, version 4.1*

Absolute garbage of an app that doesn’t do anything that it’s supposed to do. Failing to check in at crucial moments, whether it’s manual or automated.

### 1/5 — Buggy

*2026-02-17, version 3.194*

The app will spontaneously pop up for absolutely no reason and come into the foreground. The red emergency button can then be accidentally pressed. This has happened many times already over the years on this new iphone 17 pro and on my previous iPhone 13 mini, but most times i was able to cancel it in time. But it just happened to me now whilst i was asleep at 1:45am, and i didn’t know. Security called me back but i was asleep and phone was on silent, so it didn’t ring. Thankfully I’m a light sleeper so i realised it and called security back immediately to let them know I’m ok!!

I am unable to tolerate this app anymore and have just deleted it. I’d probably feel a little less safe every now and again, but good riddance!!

### 1/5 — Badly made app

*2026-01-22, version 3.192*

There are many reviews stating this app is bad for policy reasons - over reliance on apps as a replacement for trust and all that, but there’s a bigger picture here. This app is just… really bad!

Whether you pick the fact that it clearly doesn’t use modern size class APIs and has some very iOS 6 looking buttons in there, this app is partying like it’s 2010, and it’s not afraid to flaunt it. But the icing on the cake was when I entered the “diagnostics” screen and just couldn’t get out of it. No back button, nothing. Does this app work? Maybe. Does this app succeed in making a few people a sum of money by selling it to people for whom “compliance” is a headline feature. Absolutely. Is it designed for people to actually use in any way whatsoever? No.

The developers will never read this, or indeed any of these reviews, as they’ve moved on to selling some other terrible “compliance” app no doubt, and I’m sure will be scrambling for the password to the GIT repo for this one when an iOS update breaks it even more than its current state. But just for me, and anyone reading this who appreciates good design, and what iOS Apps should’ve, this app deserves to be punished by a 1 star review.

You’re welcome. Do better.

### 1/5 — Quite awful

*2025-07-05, version 3.182*

Quite awful and half-baked, and thus befitting the corporatised UK universities who undoubtedly pay the developers handsome amounts of student fee money to force it upon their “staff”. Brought to you by the purveyors of “The Leading Safety, Security, Wellbeing and Emergency Management Solution” - how lovely that the app can also dispense much needed mental health support (outsourced, canned and depersonalised), something University senior management can then refer to in their weekly mental health emails to demonstrate their passionate commitment to staff and student wellbeing.

### 1/5 — Would be useless in an emergency

*2024-07-18, version 3.162*

I’m in an endless loop of it asking me to sign in with my e-mail address, sending me to my university SSO, validating, showing me my details, giving me only a sign-ON button, and then telling me my account already exists. Delete.

### 1/5 — Cannot log in

*2024-04-30, version 3.159*

I am already signed up and trying to log in. It asks me for username and password, validates as correct, then keeps presenting me with the sign up screen as though I am a new user. So I cannot log in at all.

### 1/5 — I mistakenly tested the app

*2023-03-25, version 3.145*

There should be a way to cancel an emergency if you made a mistake when testing the app.

### 1/5 — Good but immense battery draining

*2022-11-21, version 3.141*

The idea of the app is very good, my organisation uses it. But the fact that it requires Always On location services drains my battery too quickly. Last time I checked battery info Safezone used 40% of my batter in the background in a period of 24 hours, and that’s on an iPhone 13 Pro Max with a relatively bigger battery.
There used to be an option to manually “check in” but that no more works if the Always On location prompt is turned off. For that i’d choose not to use the app anymore.

### 1/5 — Are you kidding me?

*2021-10-10, version 3.129*

It asks to track my location ALL the time even in the background and have my Bluetooth on , and won’t let me use the check in service otherwise. Have you people ever heard of such thing as privacy?!? What about my phones battery?! It will be just knackered. Interface is a disgrace to the IT industry. This app is disgusting

### 1/5 — Cannot sign in

*2021-09-12, version 3.129*

After the last update, it stopped working. When I try to sign in, it asks me to sign up instead and then tells me that my email is already registered and refuses to sign me in. This is supposed to be for security in my university!
Developers: Fix this asap please.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

Works and does the job to keep students safe

### 5/5 — Fantastic app!

*2025-03-06, version 3.172*

This is such a helpful app, it’s really made me feel safe on campus.

### 5/5 — Amazing Safety Resource

*2025-01-08, version 3.168*

SafeZone is a great app to keep safe on campus and to see where the shuttle is. Also lets you access wellbeing help.

### 5/5 — I love this App!!

*2021-08-10, version 3.128*

If you are a Curtin Student you need this app. It’s highly recommended!!

### 5/5 — How does it work?

*2020-01-30, version 3.111.1*

What if you study online and your UNI isn’t in your state but you usually study at a different UNI library or a campus? So how does it work?

### 5/5 — Must have and keep alert

*2019-07-05, version 3.105*

Really best for international students who need to be safe and urgently ask once them facing emergencies.

### 5/5 — Use student / work email!!

*2016-09-15, version 3.31*

Make sure you use your student email to sign up- that's how it detects your campus. Otherwise it won't work. Cheers

### 5/5 — Good idea

*2014-04-17, version 3.11*

I think this is a brilliant idea that qut has bought to make life on campus feel a bit more safe :-)

### 4/5 — Very useful app but here is one suggestion…

*2024-12-05, version 3.168*

Just now I used the app and managed to contact the security of the school to help me out for a non-emergency case. However, I notice that the app would not allow me to call them only but will set off the alarm by default under category of “help”, which is not emergency level. And the security was questioning me why I set off the alarm for a normal case…I was very embarrassed since I didn’t want that either. T_T I do see the different options there on the main page for different level of emergency cases. But unfortunately I have to trigger the alarm from the “help” option, which is compulsory. Ideally it would be helpful if you could give the user the choice to decide whether or not to set off the alarm for non-emergency cases, so that it would not create unnecessary panic among the people and the security team. Just for your notice. Still, good app to support people experiencing potential threatening and inconvenience. Also really appreciate our school security team from UOB ❤️.

### 3/5 — Fine but churns through battery

*2020-04-30, version 3.112*

I left this on as required during covid lockdown to automatically check in, but it burns through battery power. Once my battery is less than 30% it automatically deactivated the app
