## What is Sage?

Need some new recipe ideas? Drowning in recipes scattered across websites, screenshots, books, and handwritten cards? Sage is the home for every recipe you actually want to cook.

SAVE ANY RECIPE
Snap a photo of Grandma's handwritten index card — Sage reads even the worst chicken scratch. Paste a URL from any cooking website. Paste screenshots or text in any format, no matter how garbled. Save a printed magazine clipping. Sage cleans every recipe into a beautiful, searchable, ad-free format you'll never lose.

ASK SAGE ANYTHING
Sage is also your personal cooking AI. Ask things like:

• "I've got half a jar of canned tomatoes and some leftover chorizo — what can I make?" (Answer: Spanish rice)
• "My kids say they don't like my pancakes. How can I amp them up?" (Answer: use ricotta cheese)
• "I want biscuits for breakfast sandwiches. But only like, two biscuits." (Answer: scaled-down recipe)
• "I think I overfilled my apple pie. Will it cook down?" (Answer: not a problem)

Real questions, real answers — with actual recipes, recipe-book illustrations, and the warmth of cooking with a friend who happens to know everything.

ORGANIZE LIKE A PRO
• Save recipes into custom recipe books (Family Favorites, Weeknight Wins, Holiday Bakes)
• Smart search across everything you've ever saved
• Share recipe books with friends & family

SHOPPING LISTS THAT THINK FOR YOU

### 3/5 — Time to change

*2026-08-19*

Too many failed imports

**Developer response:** Sorry you had a bad experience here! If you reach out to us in support chat in the app, we can help figure out your imports. Importing from many sites is very challenging these days as websites and social media are aggressively blocking traffic.

### 5/5 — Best Recipe App

*2026-08-10*

Love this App! Had some bugs but Sage Support was amazing with troubleshooting

### 1/5 — Not worth it

*2026-08-07*

It’s great if you want to pay. If you’re looking for a free version don’t bother. You get a few to try and then it locks you out of doing anything, including adding any recipes by hand. I even reached out to see if I can add some manually which they assured I can. It was a lie. I spent time adding these recipes and now have to look for a different app and will have to figure out how to transfer what I’ve done so far if that’s even possible. So not worth it.

**Developer response:** Hi, sorry that manually adding recipes didn't work for you. The AI actions we must limit for free users because they cost us money. It's always been possible to add recipes manually without AI, this will always be free. We made the "create manually" button much bigger in the app now, so hopefully it will be more obvious how to do this next time.

### 5/5 — Loved the App

*2026-08-04*

Loved the app. Easy to import from social media. Would like to save the import link in the description area where I can watch the video before I start cooking. Also would like to write my own review of the recipe to remember for next time

**Developer response:** So glad you like the app! So you can access the original link from the bottom of any imported recipe page, there's a "Recipe Source" link. And there's also a "cook log" in the Account tab where you can add notes/reviews to recipes you've made!

### 5/5 — AI recipe keeper

*2026-07-29*

This is the best way to save your downloaded recipes and videos

### 5/5 — Very useful

*2026-07-21*

I do have recipes everywhere and it is a royal pain to go through to fund the ones I want to use.

With recipes printed out, I have duplicates, ones I tried and did not like, and ones I love. The hard part was organizing them and this app fit the bill.

I have auto created lists, organized recipes, and I can even have different variations of them just by asking it to accomodate whoever’s dietary needs.

### 5/5 — Amazing app!

*2026-07-10*

I love this app! Beyond just searching for recipes, I’ve used it to help me use up leftovers and odd ingredients I had in my fridge or freezer that I needed to use before it expires. I’ve also taken photos of stuff and asked it to give me suggestions on what to make with it. Like last night, I had a container of beef broth, and I wanted to make a dumpling soup with it. I took a photo of the beef broth and uploaded. It came back with a great recipe that was diabetic friendly because I needed it to be for my husband, who is diabetic. I keep my shopping list in Sage and it has helped me not forget items at the grocery stores. There’s nothing worse than going to the store for a specific ingredient or item and coming home with a bunch of stuff other than the ingredient or item you went to the store for! I love the chat part of the app too. I think it is the best kitchen assistant that everyone should use!

**Developer response:** Thank you so much, we're so glad you like it!

### 1/5 — Good Free App Turned Overpriced Subscription

*2026-05-25*

Sage used to be a really solid free recipe app—nothing flashy, but genuinely useful. The UI wasn’t the best, but it worked well and didn’t hide basic features behind a paywall. It felt like a nice change from all the subscription-heavy apps out there.

Now they’re charging $5/month, and it just doesn’t match the value. You can do the same things with any AI app and a quick import for free, it’s basically paying for a couple fewer clicks. I get that they need to make money, but they haven’t added nearly enough to justify a recurring subscription at that price.

If it were a one-time purchase, I’d consider it. But $5/month for what used to be a simple, free tool just feels excessive.

**Developer response:** We’d love to make Sage free forever, but AI is not free, even for other apps that give it away (for now). So we introduced a sustainable subscription option for those who need to use lots of AI features. The rest of the app (recipe books, shopping lists, sharing, search) remains free. Thanks for trying Sage regardless!

### 3/5 — Easy to use hard to access

*2026-01-31*

Super handy to import all my recipes and I love having them all organized. Appreciate that it’s free. However now I get the loading bar of death forever when I’m trying to access my recipes and I can’t get them when I need them. Love the new search functionality.

**Developer response:** Thank you for the kind words about the import and search features! The loading issue you described sounds like a sync bug we've been tracking down. Could you email us at contact@cookwithsage.com? We'd love to get this fixed for you specifically. — The Sage Team

### 5/5 — Convenient and easy to use

*2026-01-10*

I find the app extremely helpful for organizing recipes I’ve found online as well as searching for recipes I need.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.5.6 — 2026-08-27

Print without leaving the app. Tap Print on a recipe and the printer sheet comes straight up, instead of sending you out to a browser first.

Shopping lists can now be shared, printed, and exported too. Send someone the link and they can check things off and add what they spot — in any browser, with no app and no account — while the list updates for you at home.

### 1.5.5 — 2026-08-25

Share text and photos to Sage, not just links. Send a recipe from Notes, Messages, or your photo library and Sage reads it the same way it reads a web page.

Also in this release: bring your library over from other recipe apps, better video imports, a much nicer print view, and a long list of smaller fixes.

### 1.5.4 — 2026-07-29

Speed improvements

### 1.5.3 — 2026-07-19

Better label management, and many other improvements.

### 1.5.2 — 2026-07-13

You can now send recipes to Sage from the system "Share" sheet, making it easier to import from video sites like Insta, Tiktok, Facebook, YouTube, and the browser.
