I found questions where the image was totally black. Difficult to get the answer right! ### 2/5 — OK, but ... *2018-07-03, version 2.2* Most sections are useful, but some pictures are very ambiguous. That said, the pilotage section is very poor with highly confusing buoyage pictures and dubious ‘rules’ for avoiding dangers. This app provides that, along with three display ads per question and answer: one ad at the top and bottom of each page as well as in the confirmation dialog. I can almost hear the "ka-ching" every time I answer a question. I've seen fewer ads on a NASCAR racing car. Very distracting. Finally when I select an incorrect answer the confirmation dialog is so big it often covers up the correct answer. It took me a minute or two to figure out I could scroll through the answer obscured by the confirmation dialog. Great content hidden behind a greedy and poorly design user experience. ### 4/5 — good for part-time sailors *2014-05-08, version 2.0* I find this app quite helpful for me to brush up on sailing topics after not having been out for a while. It gets you back up with very useful topics. ### 1/5 — Total Rip Off *2012-02-10, version 1.1* Unless some serious upgrades are being lined up this has been a very unpleasant experience. The training is just a basic quiz, nothing interactive or engaging. For the cost I would have expected a lot more. I'd like a refund. This is awful. Also the website has no contact address which leads me to believe these guys just out for a quick internet buck. Don’t bother! When you tap help to learn why you’re wrong, it just says the right answer eg “port side” with no explanation! The characteristics of the lights on buoys is just wrong in terms of what should be quick flashing or very quick. The South Cardinal light is wrong too. It should be Very Quick (6) plus Long Flash for 10s and the app just shows the six flashes without the long flash. The English used throughout is not great either, spelling mistakes and poor sentences. It would have been better if it provided study material alongside the quiz to reference under the Help option but unfortunately it just provides the answer. After my first day on the water with a friend who named all the basic terms and parts on his boat, I came home and installed this app. It's brilliant! All the terms in the first module make so much sense and doing the quiz several times only served to reinforce and lock everything I learnt in. The last few quizzes are tricky, but it's all about safety and sailing, and knowing all of Nautica's quiz answers is the equivalent of having done a Coxswains Course, except Nautica is free!
