## What is SailSim?

As a Live-Aboard I wanted to create something anyone could use for learning, as well as for those rainy days when going out to sea is difficult but you still want to sail.
The sailing simulator was created to provide sailing knowledge in a fun and intuitive way. The main goal is to have fun and learn something along the way. Hopefully that goal is being achieved with every update i make to the simulator.

SailSim applies actual physics to simulate the behavior of a sailing vessel. This means you can actually capsize or sink a vessel if you are not careful. In some cases the sailing simulator can even reproduce unpredictable results based on your actions, selected parameters and conditions. The visuals are meant not to be too serious where it doesn't matter as much (Environment in specific) but playful and fun.

I spend a great deal of time on the physics of the simulator where a vessel can receive up to 30 or more forces dynamically at the same time, so the vessels are not just bumbling around but are actually getting the forces you would get in real life (mostly since nothing is perfect).

Although by no means this should be considered as an exact replication of the actual sailing process, it does provide things you shall encounter when you step on any boat. If learning is not your thing, it is very addictive to just play with a sailboat and physics applied to it when the wind is howling outside and you have nothing better to do.

Some controls and reactions of the sailing vessels in this simulator have been set intentionally in an awkward way and not as a typical Sailing Game would do it. This is done to try and replicate what you shall encounter when controlling a sailboat by yourself.

I am having a blast developing this as an ongoing project. Spend lots of sleepless nights just because the specific environment or function is just too fun to stop making. Hopefully others will appreciate the work that is made by just one man on a small boat at sea :)

* Make sure you update to the latest available version as i fix bugs and release fixes and new functions as i go.

Please note that i designed the simulator with good graphics and physics in mind. Since i do not have the resources to check the simulator on older devices, if your device is older than 2 - 3 years, the simulator might not work properly. Unsupported older devices may manifest faults as broken texturing or in general the look of the simulator will not be as in the description screenshots.

I just downloaded your SailSim and went through the lesson. Some of your topics are telling me I have the wrong answer. There’s a few on there that when I get to the last question, it systematically tells me it’s wrong… now I’m stuck in able go any further.

I have really been enjoying this game. I really liked going through the lessons, but it is difficult to see which questions I got wrong as the notification only shows the first few words of the question. I am very happy to have completed every lesson and challenge! I have completed the first two adventures, but for the life of me I cannot figure out what is needed for the third adventure. The instructions are unclear. I have sailed through every part of the map and there are no more arches or bridges to sail under. Please I am begging you to tell me how to finish the final adventure!

There is so much potential here, but it’s just one advert after another. Tried it for about 30 minutes and the game could be fun but it’s ruined by huge long adverts. I trashed it. It’s a real shame. Could have been great!

Im a USCG licensed sailing captain, and love the idea behind this app,  but it needs alot of work. Wish i could get my $2.99 back lol. Paying for and “unlocking” the app does nothing. Needs to be full access if you pay for full unlock. A free sail mode would be ideal. Wind and boat physics are not realistic. Hope will be improved upon in future updates. for now, not really worth the download.

**Developer response:** Tank you for the feedback. I always welcome criticism and enjoy improving SailSim for everyone. The idea behind the whole "Unlock" system is to restrict people from passing "Cheating" their way through all the steps required in order to understand how the basics of a sailboat work. Just as any game, naturally you must "Earn" your way through the ranks in any situation to progress. Otherwise it would not be interesting in my opinion. All physics are completely dynamic. Nothing is scripted and the boat reacts to the best abilities a mobile device can offer under the circumstances. There are a lot of forces being applied to all sailboats but as you can understand, it would be almost impossible to make it completely realistic. For that reason SailSim is designed to provide a good "feel" for how a boat reacts without making things too serious. There are more expensive simulators that can do that on a PC. My main goal was to introduce people to sailing in a fun and simple way without making things too convoluted. 

Naturally there is a lot that could be done and i am making improvements all the time. Have been stuck on dry dock all summer and just now am getting back into development on new features for SailSim. Lots of updates were made for newer devices and i am trying to keep up with the limited hardware i have (20 year old PC) :)

### 5.96 — 2026-04-03

Based on sailor feedback and suggestions, the latest SailSim update includes improvements such as Custom controls for the Steam Deck (the default possession controls were difficult to use on the deck due to different mapping configurations) which allow you to map the possession controls to your own keys. The additional controls are mentioned in the "Guide" section of the Main Menu. 

The race at the Shoe Horn island had an issue where for some reason the check points were incorrectly labeled. Not sure why this happened but most likely it was due to migration to the latest Unreal Engine and something i missed while rebuilding. (It happens).

The Totem Protector adventure had an issue where (once again) some key points for solving the puzzle were incorrectly labeled, thus making it impossible to solve it. This is now fixed and the adventure should complete once you figure out what to do (based on the hints in the Secret Places environment)

In general i went through few things to make sure everything works as it should and altered few things to make the overall experience a bit better. Am always trying to improve SailSim so if you do notice something i missed, please let me know.
